  • How is your vibrato? Do you have vibrato, or do you think that only some people have vibrato?
    Watch me as I teach my 12-year-old daughter in real-time how to play with vibrato.
    Vibrato is a necessary part of the flute tone. It is one of those things that takes a good sound and turns it into a fantastic sound. It creates a tone that is living and moving rather than stagnant.
    In this video I teach a student from square-one the process it takes to learn vibrato. I give her a couple of different methods that can help you progress down your vibrato journey. This student shows that with a little effort she will be playing with vibrato in no time at all.
    You can listen and decide for yourself how she is learning vibrato. Then you too can practice with these methods and learn to play with vibrato.
    Start today!
    Have fun!

    Just starting to adding to my flute practice. so great timing. Waverly has a good tone and was almost getting vibrato. When first playing the euphonious, my vibrato was diaphragm and front tongue. It took my ages to move it back, then getting control of speed and when to use it. Thank you. 👍👍

      I feel your pain of learning to move it back. Once learned wrong it is so difficult to change it. I've a couple students that are working on that very thing. How is your flute vibrato going?

    Beautiful tone Waverly! Your vibrato is emerging. I think it is so exciting when vibrato is developing. It's like a young bird learning to fly. All of a sudden those pulses will emerge naturally. Thank you for sharing your talent.

    I am just starting to learn vibrato but I’m a bit lost. I’m not sure how to word this, but how should I be breathing in my stomach? Like should my stomach be moving in and out as a play, or slowly going in? I also seem to be moving my lips to help make the curve in pitch. Should I be doing that?

    • @DoctorFlute
      @DoctorFlute  2 года назад

      Breathing should not change for vibrato. When you breath and then tighten those muscles that is the way it should stay slowly moving in when you need that air. Vibrato is done in the back of the throat only sympathetic vibrations should make the lips move if at all. Try playing a note and just pulse the air even if that means the pulsing comes from the stomach. You can still feel how it is in the back of the throat. After pulsing see if you can connect the pulses and make vibrato.

    Wow how contradictory, first you say vibrato doesn’t come from the throat then you say it comes from the back of the throat. watch your throat closely in the mirror while you play vibrato and you’ll see it, no great mystery! And while vocal vibrato is more of a pitch-bend, flute vibrato is more about pulsating air controlled by the throat, -slight pitch-bend being a convenient side effect.

    • @DoctorFlute
      @DoctorFlute  2 года назад

      Beg to differ. Officially from what I've read vibrato comes from a flap on your vocal cords moving up and down. Can we agree on that? But for my methods I don't really care where it biologically comes from I care where I feel it and that is in the back of the throat. So I'm not really saying anything contradictory. But I like a little repartee!

    • @ronrobbins2737
      @ronrobbins2737 2 года назад

      @@DoctorFlute Yes, now that you mention it, when I sing with vibrato I DO feel it coming from my own "vocal-chord flap" also! Probably there's an undiscovered flute-flap somewhere in there . . . but i'm not a biologist.(LOL)
