Mein Teil is creepy and my "least favorite" on the list I made. You do have to "experience" the song, at least, once. Plus, I want to see your facial expressions and hear what you have to say when you start getting into what the song is referring to. 🍲 🔪

    German speaker here...
The lyrics of the verse are basically 2 sentences saying
"You have asked me" = "Du hast mich gefragt"
"But I didn´t reply" = "Aber ich hab´nichts gesagt" literally translated it´s "But I said nothing" meaning in that particular context "I didn´t reply to your question"
The chorus is then the old traditional German marriage vow.
Where the priest or the marriage registrar was asking both of the marriage couple but each seperately those 2 questions before he declares the couple for married.
"Do you want to be loyal for all days till death is tearing you both apart ?"
"Do you want to love her(or him) for all days till death is tearing you both apart ?"
But here in the song he is replying to every of both questions with a clear "No" even each twice "No, No"
That is what the song is about = "he strongly refused to marry his girlfriend at the wedding ceremony."
But they split up the first sentence of the lyrics "You have asked me" into single words then adding one after another in order to built a whole meaningful sentence...like "Du"..."Du hast".."Du hast mich"..."Du hast mich gefragt"
Now here is the clue..the verb "have" in 2nd person singular and the verb "hate" in 2nd person singular are sounding in German phonetically exactly the same but they are written differently .."Du hast"= "You have"...but "Du hasst" written with 2 "s" = "You hate"
So when the sentence word progression reaches the point of "Du hast mich" then it sounds like saying "You hate me/Du hasst mich" because of the lack of further context posed till to this point and that is misleading the audience because it is just heard it but not read ..in this song it is simple a on purpose intended pure phonetic wordplay which only just works "phonetically" and only just makes sense in that particular context of what that song is about...because in the aftermath of that song "the girl" very likely will then hate him after he replied so intensely with "No" after he was getting asked the marriage vow at a marriage ceremony in front of all the wedding guests.
But in fact there is no single word of "hate" in the lyrics.
that´s like saying in English totally out of the blue with no further context
"My".."My deer".."My deer has".."My deer has huge".."My deer has huge antlers"...until I say "antlers" you will very likely think/presume I´m speaking of "My Dear having huge... ...presumed breasts or butt cheeks or teeth... what ever" and you are not thinking in the slightest about "My deer"...and the very similar thing is happening here in the lyrics..until they have not finished the whole sentence by adding the last word "gefragt/asked" everyone is falsely presuming he speaks of "Somebody who hates another somebody" but in fact he didn´t at all in that particular sentence..he is just tricking the audience.

Interesting that you've mentioned System of a down. There are a few connections, they are friends, John Dolmayan is a fan, wears Rammstein caps on stage, Daron Malakian played guitar for Rammstein for a couple of shows in the US because their own guitarist was injured. You may find pics online. It was funny to see Daron wearing a typical Rammstein outfit on stage, being a bit scared from all the fire. Rammstein and SOAD are also my 2 favorite bands. I can't exactly tell what it is, both bands are from different genres, Rammsteins guitar work is way simpler as SOAD's. I think what they have in common is the energy, and some theatrical operatic vibes, by Till Lindemann and Serj Tankian, allthough they sound quite different. Both bands have kind of an exotic tone that's unique in the world of Rock/Metal. SOAD's tone is eastern european and sometimes middle-eastern, and Rammsteins is german. Both is exotic in americans ears. And as crazy both bands are, both are also surprisingly catchy.

Rammstein! Ausgezeichnet! Great band. Rammstein is an example of what's called Neue Deutsche Härte (New German Hardness). The lead singer is an expert in pyrotechnics and Rammstein uses fire effects quite frequently, as you see. They're metal, definitely, but a strange subgenre of it. If you want to see another incredible example of their live stuff, look for a video called Rammstein - [LIVE] Landgraaf, Pinkpop Festival, Netherlands, 2016.06.11 [PRO] . You talk about the crowd getting into it--MAN! It's the opening to their 2016 show, and it looks like a horror movie filmed in a steel mill. It will utterly blow your mind. And if you want a wide, really loud sample of Rammstein stuff, check out a video called 50 Rammstein Riffs. It's by an Italian guy named Andrea Boma Boccarusso. The opening 4 or 5 riffs are as hard as anything I've ever heard.

  • @JakobFischer60
    @JakobFischer60 3 года назад

Actually the video was part of a DVD from a concert in Paris that was filmed by several cinematic cameras and put together by a director. They even added some awkward visual effects. So it is not a normal "Live" video.

Rammstein makes a dream comes true for all the reaction-to-something-guys. Their live shows and as well their official videos have mostly a high quality and offer a lot to react.
Rammstein like to play on words and sometimes they connect this with their video. But that is stuff for later, when you are more advanced with Rammstein. And even when there is no official video available there are sometime very good fan made videos as for the song _Spring_ where is a video with paper figures. Very good.
I myself don't consider me as a Rammstein fan, of course I like some of their songs. I mainly like to watch other people to certain Rammstein stuff.

Just a thought but the coronal discharge could work live providing the keyboardist is well insulated, like on a treadmill or something. With arcs that long it's got to be millions of volts but the current would be microamps. Nikola Tesla used to do this stuff onstage a hundred years ago. Maybe it's not CGI.

That riff is very similar to Killing Joke’s ‘Millennium’ (1994). You really should give Killing Joke a listen, they are the godfathers of Industrial Metal. Metallica, NIN, Ministry, Nirvana, Front Line Assembly, Rammstein, Foo Fighters and so many cite them as influential. Their 1994 album ‘Pandemonium’ cements it with ‘Pandemonium’, ‘Exorcism’ and ‘Millennium’, which they recorded in the King’s Chamber of the Great Pyramid in Egypt after bribing officials. They go back to 1979 though and are STILL going, and toured as support for Tool recently.

    • @kookoothebirdgirl1
      @kookoothebirdgirl1 3 года назад +1

Agreed. I spent the best part of the 80’s touring with them, as my ex was a band member. Oh the stories! They recorded the album “Night Time” at Hansa Ton Studios in Berlin, where Bowie recorded his Berlin trilogy…Heroes, etc. The wall was still up at the time, and it served as the source of much late night/early morning shenanigans. Like I said…OH! The stories! Maybe I’ll relinquish one or two if Daniel decides to do a reaction vid. But yes, definitely check out their music…personally I prefer the earlier KJ, like the self-titled first album or Night Time. And, they most definitely set the bar in what they could only self-describe as “the sound of the earth vomiting”. Hope to hear it here, Daniel!

As for the limited amount of (repetitive) lyrics, this is their "crowd participation" song.
The lyrics are a play on words as Du hast (you have) and Du hasst (you hate) sounds the same. Only the full sentence shows the meaning and the listener is deliberately misled.
They often use ambiguous words like on "Mein Teil" (based on a real live event of sexualized cannibalism by mutual consent) as the title translates to "My piece" or "My part" but can also be slang for "My [male genital]".

  • @StineFL

Hey! I loved the reaction! And I loved that you went in depth afterwards! Looking forward to seeing more Rammstein from you 😄
I would recommend watching Mein Teil live from 2013 (based on real events) and Ich Tu Dir Weh (which was put on the index - basically censoring it, due to the graphic lyrics), live from Madison Square Garden.
I would *also* highly recommend educatedmarine's videos, as he very artistically puts the English translated lyrics + any relevant background information on the videos (live, official music videos or custom made videos for the songs which have neither). They're very well made, and a great way of getting to know the band and their songs!
As far as the band goes, it likes to delve into the extremes, but they're often misunderstood to be a violent and hateful group. Behind all the controversy, each member are very grounded and reflected, and none of them condone the violence they write about. Which makes it easier for me as a fan to love them as much as I do 😂
As I said, I really enjoyed your video, and had to subscribe to you 😁😊

Excellent reaction. Rammstein is known for their driving riffs, pyrotechnics, and dual meaning lyrics. Till loves to use homophones in his lyrics, so German words that sound identical but are spelled slightly differently. Hast and Hasst for instance. Have and hate.

I'm not a metal fan (except some symphonic metal) but Rammstein knows how to put on one hell of a show. The crowd engagement is amazing at Rammstein concerts. Even the French people in Paris started to sing in German.
However I would like to know what you think about Loïc Nottet, a singer and dancer from Belgium. His most popular song is "Million Eyes": ruclips.net/video/68EnJITH-5Q/видео.html and another recommendation is "Mr/Mme" (his only song in his mother tongue French, but the video has English subtitles): ruclips.net/video/DS8Hkf_aOr4/видео.html

Thanks for the reaction. I am a Rammstein-fan since I heard "Engel" the first time and that was back in 1997! Yes, I am a bit "older", but only on the paper, don't feel like that. Or not too much. If you want to see something from the earlier days: ruclips.net/video/Gb1oaOo9njw/видео.html He does a good job in the translation. This song is called "Tier". Be aware, because it is about a father who rapes his daughter, which unfortunately exists in the world.

    Incorrect translation.
Very few people listen properly. In the live version Till sings not only:
“Willst du bis der Tod euch scheidet
Treu ihr sein für alle Tage“
    Means
Will you till death do you part
Be faithful to her for all days
    He also sings:
“Willst du bis zum Tod der Scheide.
    Treu ihr sein“
    Means
Will you, till the death of the vagina.
    Be faithful
It sounds the same, but …

Maybe you are interested in from a German. It actually means marriage and man and wife partnership! The "you hate" is just playing with expectations of the crowd because this hard style music let one more thinking about "hate" than "you have". Because later in the song he sings "Willst Du bis der Tod uns scheidet Treu sein? NEIN!" Its a marriage line and means: Do you promise to be for your partner and on its side till death? No! And watching the music video you see the theme man friendship over woman.

I made a translation myself for non-natural German speakers because all the others I've read so far have been just terrible:
Hast with a sharp S turns have to hate.
    German - English
    Du hast - You have
    Du hasst - You hate
Du hast mich - You have me
Du hasst mich - you hate me
In the direct English translation that word "have" is then lost:
Du hast mich gefragt - You asked me (You have asked me)
Du hast mich gefragt und ich hab nichts gesagt
You have asked me and i have sayed nothing
Willst du bis der Tod euch scheide treu ihr sein für alle Tage
Do you want until death separates you faithfull/dedicated/devoted to her for all days
"Euch scheide" (You divorce) is a very old German expression. It means when something separates you. The German word for divorce(Scheidung) still contains the word. However, the word Scheide means something else in German. More on that in a moment.
Now there is a voice in the background that can be dismissed as Meldoic background music in English but in fact there is a woman singing: Jaaaaaa (Yeeeess in English) and Till sing: NEIN! (NO! in Englisch)
Willst du bis zum Tod der Scheide sie lieben auch in schlechten Tagen. - Jaaaa - NEIN!
Here comes the second meaning of "Scheide" if you write it in capitalized German as a noun:
Do you want until the vagina dies to love her even in bad days. - Yeeees - NO!

Three seconds in: ... aaaaaand there goes the "metal face". I'm going to need to find a translation to the lyrics, because my four semesters of college German isn't helping me here. One of my fellow students played a Rammstein song in class once, and the professor, a 65-year-old German woman, was not a fan.

Hey, Daniel. I seldom comment anything, but I do enjoy your effort to actually understand and explore songs and lyrics. I'm also not really a fan of this style of music in general, but I have found Rammstein a bit fascinating. And so I have a couple of suggestions for you. Some of this might be a bit over the top and you might not want to react to it (yes, Rammstein can be very controversial and provocative). But here are, in order from mild to not-so-mild a few songs that I'd really find interesting to see your reactions to:
. Ich Tu Dir Weh (ruclips.net/video/Q344Zgh_btE/видео.html) live from Madison Square Garden
. Mein Teil (ruclips.net/video/qFpjMNKxsnA/видео.html) live from Hurricane Festival
. Buck Dich (ruclips.net/video/pRXkDYTSAj4/видео.html) live from Montreal
For the second one, please do a bunch of research even before watching it. Lookup the lyrics, and translation. And even more importantly, look up the back story. It might be a bit upsetting (or a lot), but watching the performance after that, when you know what Till is singing, and the story behind it, makes the whole experience even more interesting. Oh, and please record when you are doing the research too. Because that is probably rather interesting as well.
For Buch Dich, I would not blame you if you do not put the reaction up, even though I'd be very interested in your reaction, as well as the thoughts about the whole thing, and various implications.
If you want a little less controversial, but very strong image things from Rammstein, I could recommend the official videos of Mein Herz Brennt. Now, this song exists in two versions, and I would recommend you check out both. First the "normal" version, then the "piano version". Again, understanding the lyrics only makes these more impactfull, so don't fear doing some research before watching.
And of course, other people might disagree on the whole research before looking thing, since it changes how you react.
Also, it seems that in general, all of these videos are not getting blocked when reacted to. There are plenty of reactions to all of the ones I mentioned above, and all have been left out there.
I guess you are rather busy with requests, and getting on with life in general, so take these suggestions for something to do on a rainy day perhaps. It is fun to participate with someone who actually try to do something meaningful in their reaction, which can also makes other people actually learn something more. So keep doing it. And sorry for the very long comment.

du hast= you have, du haꞵt= you hate. the ꞵ is a special letter in german, it is pronounced as a double ss. Welcome to a wonderful weird world. One of thier highest quality video is "deutschland", which tells kinda a story about germany and how people feel about it.
