Excellent work on an inexpensive Smoke Machine Fog Chiller! I haven't seen anyone use a block of dry ice like that before, Genius! Most 'Fog Chillers' use crushed ice, and then you have to deal with the wet melt down. I made my own Dry Ice Fog machine from a 50 gallon barrel & water heater coils...far more complicated & expensive. As you know, now I use The Chauvet NIMBUS--the Gold Standard for Serious Fog, but $eriou$ big bucks too, about $1,100.00. One suggestion for your Fog Chiller: Water your Lawn Heavily just before it gets dark on Halloween. The Fog on lawn will last longer and stay thicker. Great work, thanks for sharing. Might try your Chiller design on my old Chauvet Smoke machine in another spot.
I am using a drain pipe with frozen water bottles as my “chiller”. It’s working…ok. Still a work in progress. I wish it was better. May have to try a chiller made from a cooler
It really depends on the temperature. If you’re in 80 degree weather, it won’t last as long. However, if it’s that warm… wet ice would work great and so much cheaper. It’s all about the contrast in ambient temp. Where do you live?
How long does that block of ice last for you? It looks like the incoming fog smacks into the center of the block and then must flow over it and back down to the output slot. Is that right? Does the hot incoming fog eventually melt a whole through the center of the block?
"Chauvet" the second way you pronounced it ; ) I like the box part of the chiller. I should add the semi-rigid aluminum dryer duct creates the ripple effect but is colder than soft walled but not as easy to store. I've made different chillers but never tried dry ice.
Just such a fancy name, I can never say it correctly. Lol. The dry ice gets expensive, but works really well. Especially if your temperature spread between the output and ambient temperature is narrow.
Sure!!! This will be my second year using these lights. I checked and they are all still working. Just make sure you get the one with US plug adapter. @@JeremyPrend I would be cautions in experimenting with that idea. I've been working with fog machines well over 20 years. Fog fluid is made up of food grade glycol and distilled water. Putting anything else in there will surely clog up your fog machine if not destroy it. I would stick with colored lighting instead. But, as with anything experimental, do your research. Maybe MacGyver might know.....
@@eazyEHouX thanks for the advice Elias! Last thing I need is to ruin a machine. I ended up not making my own fog juice for that cumulus machine. It uses mostly distilled water and very little fog juice. So it became a non factor.
Wow !! I have the American DJ kool fog machine with a built in compartment for the dry ice. I never get results like you did. I may try adding the box with additional dry ice. Do you know what the outside temp was when you filmed?
It was about 65 degrees. I bet if your box had a little more volume than the compartment on the DJ KF machine, you would be surprised. It doesn’t even have to be that fancy. An old medium size Amazon box would be perfect. Good luck!
It was about 60 degrees when I did this with absolutely no wind. The larger spread you have from the outside temp vs your fog temp, the better results. The colder fog eventually warms up to ambient temperature, but the first 30-50 feet looks sweet. If you live somewhere warm, regular ice should work fine. If it’s colder 45-60ish you may need to use dry ice.

What do you think (or now that you’ve upgraded what DID you think) of the Hurricane 1600? I’ve been reading reviews and going back on forth on foggers off and on for over a week now. I live in the Florida panhandle so the temps are hit or miss on Halloween and this will be my first time going the fog route. Actually just had Omaha Steaks delivered today so I have that cooler and dry ice is only about $1.69/lb here so that’s good…just need a fog machine that can run continuously while we wander the neighborhood with the kids. Any thoughts?
Sean, I like the Hurricane. I have been buying them after Halloween from China. It takes months with shipping, but you can get for under $100. My favorite machine is the Fog 1000 by Adkins Pro Lightning. I got it for $75 a few years ago…. Sadly I need a new pump for it. I think you will find that most 1000W machines will perform really well. Make sure you have a timer function though, that will really help out. Also. Love the PanHandle
@@JeremyPrend The panhandle is great, but super unpredictable on weather for the Halloween timeframe. I'd love for it to be a little chilly so the fog rolls nice (2 years ago it dropped down into the 40's or 50's throughout Halloween day) but you just never know! I'd like to have a machine for this year, but maybe waiting and getting it after the holiday is my best bet.....Hmmmmmm.......

Using the machine alone, the fog would float around the room. Using ice (it's just regular ice, not dry ice) cools down the fog which makes it sit on the floor. Or think of it this way..... we all know hot air (or fog in this case) rises....well, cold air (or fog) sinks.
So it will vary depending on how hard you run your fog over it and outside temp. I usually expect a single block to last about 2 hours. Give or take about 30 min.
It’s in the black disperser box located against the brick (behind the shrubs). I centered it behind the middle ghost. The fog machine is on front step, I used that 4” dryer vent to route it to the black disperser box. I hope this helps!

I tried it through the trashcan box setup with wet ice and unfortunately with the fog machine it only out pushes for 30 seconds. Then it just doesn't seem to come out enough. do you have any ideas to slow the fog down to help it say on the ground?
