Got one Jan 1 love it. I just like to write notes with good paper feel. Using calligraphy for writing most of the time. Expensive but I hate writing on glass and this is good alternative for natural writing for now. My fine handwriting really shine on this.
Nice to see this video from you. I don’t think it is the worst device because personally based on what it was designed for it actually does it well. I have both the remarkable and the Supernote A5X and even with all the functionality of the Supernote, I prefer the Remarkable. The writing experience and design is awesome. I found based on my use case, the extra and awesome functions of the Supernote dont make it more superior because I don’t use those function in my use case and I see equally amount if people selling there devices as well to just want the simple pen/paper experience (which remarkable offers). I don’t care that it’s limited because I also have an iPad, where I can access my kindle and other apps on with a backlight. I truly use it for what it was designed for and that’s a great notebook replacement and writing/notetaking. Maybe because I’m not super techie that’s helps in my appreciation with the limited function of the Remarkable (not sure). I do agree, as the digital landscape and the world is changing, Remarkable might have challenges by not adding more tools but also have e-ink market changes, I personally feel if an tablet adds app such as the Supernote they shouldn’t be considered in the same category and now should be placed directly against an iPad /Samsung. I think the e-ink devices need a shake up in how they categorize the devices. Remarkable will also get the end of the stick in comparison videos because it purposely designed to be limited I feel people make to those comparison video for content but it also confuses a lot of people and buyers when more than likely that’s all they need was a remarkable but they think they going to use all the functionality of a Supernote when its really about their ability to organize themselves and the simplicity of the remarkable does that. There definitely a market for the more advanced writer and user of the other devices but the remarkable is a great simplistic starting out device and as your need change, your upgrade.
I agree with you as well. One addition for anyone else reading these comments is that alot of people get e-ink readers for benefit or necessity of the e-ink screens being easier on your eyes.
Quite the lengthy with no mention in price. I have a remarkable 2 and iPad Pro. I love both. But the criticism comes down to price. Remarkable wants to be simple and really, really good at one thing. The writing experience. This experience shouldn’t come at a premium, it does less than the rest, but costs the same. There’s phones that have a singular focus, “phone” lacks many features to aid with focus, the price reflects that. Remarkable’s price should too
Kitt, I appreciate you, your content, and this review. I bought my R2 in summer of 2022 because I was struggling and needed a way to write with search, cloud functionality and some basic standard tech. I had a iPad Pro 12.9 but I didn’t want to use it for work and I didn’t need all the bells and whistles. Unfortunately, the Remarkable didn’t deliver for me. I was shocked to see basic obvious things on the R2 were omitted. I’d just assumed the basics would be there. This is when I realized the cost of the device relative to what it can do can’t be justified. I hope the new CEO can get them on track because a strategy of saying distraction free as a feature worth paying for is wearing thin. In this market paying the equivalent of iPad prices for what is essentially an electric legal pad or a super thin 1970’s IBM Select typewriter with basic cloud functionality is not sustainable.
I agree with you in everything. I hope that with the big hardware announcement out of the way that new software is coming down the pike. They listened to a lot of customer needs on the hardware end: More storage, better processor, faster responsiveness, bigger screen size, front light, and of course color. There really isn't much on the hardware wishlist that was left off. It truly is the software that needs to catch up. I'm eagerly anticipating that it is on the horizon.
@@ShadowDaNet my fear is we won’t get the handwritten text search for the RM2. The RM2 is already so slow. The Pro is a limited beefy edition of the RM2 with some new hardware. They will debut a new faster device to replace the RM2 in 2025 with the search to force people to upgrade to the new device.
@@TheOriginalXultarI agree. I have largely believed to this point anyways, that remarkable has handicapped themselves on the processing capability of the 2 and can't really add greater functionality even if they wanted to. Which ultimately is(unfortunately) by design.
I only have two e-ink devices. Remarkable 2 and Boox Note Air 2. I only use my Remarkable 2. I like the svg export for sketches and the fact that I got it to replace physical paper notebooks. I am currently waiting for the Supernote A4x2.
Really thank you for this video Kit!!! I must say that you are the first reviewer that I watched for all of these e-ink tablets !! I bought Supernote A5X last year and I must say that since I borrowed a RM2 from a friend for this weekend, I can’t really choose which I like the most !! Very strong devices !! I am thinking to sell my A5X in order to buy a RM2 because I really love to write on it and I like this design!!
Really excited for this. I just purchased a refurbed rm2 and I’m a week into. And it’s been amazing so far. Hope to pick up a few productivity tips and tricks from seeing how you use yours.
I found it a bad investment. It is too dark. In 99% of my use cases, the light is not enough. If you want to use it, especially for reading, you have to be sitting out in the direct sunlight, or have a lamp directly pointed at it, no matter how strong the room light is. THAT is the only single truth about Remarkable 2@@KitBetts-Masters
Hi Kit, I’ve fallen down a rabbit hole of your videos. About to buy the Remarkable. I just wanted to write this comment, not sure if you’ll read it, to let you know that you are doing amazing. Your creative production efforts are seen and appreciated in these fantastic videos. Sometimes you may feel like you are questioning why you even do these things you do, career, hobby, whatever it may be. But I would just like to tell you that this craft you have been perfecting of these soothing but super informative videos has helped me immensely. You have gained a forever subscriber. I will follow you in whatever you do. Good luck and can’t wait to see what you do next! ❤
Thanks for the info, helps one to better understand what to look for to fit their needs. I for one just wanted to eliminate all the note books I tend to compile. And definitely wanted something with less distractions. I have an iPad for that. So yes I went with the remarkable 2.
Thinking of getting one of these for work, thank you for all your videos - working in education your videos have helped me make up my mind - I just need to part with the money now! Thank you, Richard
The one thing remarkable 2 has done right is the folder organisation it’s perfect and simple to use especially when you want to download PDFs and organise them in to folders. This is one thing that I still can’t get the hang of with the boox tab x, please could you do a video on folder organisation for storing PDFs on the boox tab x many thanks.
Thanks, yeah, they call them book shelves in the library app in Boox. But also, you can make a folder structure in your storage and access them that way.
My wife has a Remarkable 2 and doesn’t use it. I have a Boox Note Air 2+ and I use it quite a bit. But the way the file system works, and the way things are organized in general, on the Boox drives me nuts. I find it to be both confusing and over complicated. I’m looking for simplicity and I don’t want to spend half of my time trying to understand where things are and how to move things around (which is my impression of the Boox). I may be taking over my wife’s Remarkable 2 soon. I’m deep into the Apple ecosystem and use the iPad for most heavy lifting. I use the Boox for mostly note taking. I’m about ready to sell the Boox and move to the Remarkable 2 I think.
@@KitBetts-Masterstrue, but unfortunately you cannot mix PDFs and Notebooks in one Folder / Shelf. I have both, RM2 and Note Air 3C, I switched from RM2 to 3C but I do miss my RM2 in terms of simplicity, reliability and file organization already. On the other hand I do have color and backlight (very helpful under dark conditions). Hm, maybe the day will come I go back to RM2...
fantastic video....i watched several of yours when making my buying decision. i LOVE mine. I'm 3 weeks in, and keep adapting how it fits into my workflow, but the experience has been life changing!
I do a lot of maths notetaking, and would benefit greatly from an "unbounded canvas". Currently I walk around with notebooks wherever I go, and think I should upgrade to an eInk tablet. Problem is whether the Remarkable is worth it. For instance, most computer math notetaking is compiled in LaTeX, for which there is no good "handwriting-to-code" converter (and probably will stay so). So my notetaking would just be an interactive drawing board. Is this enough to justify the price?
You make some very good points and emphasise the flair of the device really well. On the downside, the video is extremely repetitive and very light on practical guidance despite it being labelled a guide.
having a hard time on deciding on this or an a5x2 (releasing march/april). will be used primarily for note taking in class and schoolwork. i really want the remarkable because of the name theyve made for themself, reputation, and the overall look of it. as far as features though ive heard with supernote you can tage keywords and search for them and notebooks have table of contents which i feel would be great school features. seriously TORN.
Im student and I bought the box ultra c pro. I don’t like it because it has many distractions and doesn’t feel so palled like. Would you recommend the rm pro?
Do you think it’s viable to have both the kindle scribe and remarkable 2? Kindle for books and remarkable for notetaking? Or is having both devices not really functional day to day?
I am trying to get a notes taking device. But I am lost in the maze. Could you please recommend based on my needs - Note taking, Handwriting recognition/ convert into Text. Ability to take pictures, read books and make notes, annotate. Record Audio of the classes. Feels like writing ( unlike the iPad which is horrible with that glossy finish). Don’t need web browser but it’s ok if it has it. No need for video playback or apps like RUclips etc. I want the device as replacement to my paper notebook but take pictures and record audio ( from meetings or classes)
If you need to take pictures on the device then my only recommendation is the Tab Ultra C Pro. It will be a great companion in your meetings and classes. :-)
Love my Remarkable 2 for its simplicity because I am trying create habits disconnected from tech and distractions but not great with paper notebooks. Love your reviews and feel that your scoring of the Remarkable 2 is a good reflection of my experience with it. Thanks for collecting all your reviews into a long form video.
Thanks, yep, it is perfect for a means towards that end. We should all aim to be more purposeful about the tech that we use and how it influences our lives and remarkable can certainly be a piece of that puzzle. :-)
thanks for the clear video! However, I am a bit hesitant to order since the Remarkable 2 has been around for a while. Do you expect a Remarkable 3 on the market in the near future?
You're all probably gonna think I'm crazy but I bought a Tab s8 a while back and I put a specific paperfeel screen protector on it. I've been using it to take notes for quite some time now and I got used to it and now I really like it. I can turn on either focus mode or do not disturb mode but to be honest I don't always need to be in distraction free mode. The note app I use almost replicates the Remarkable experience perfectly with nearly every feature. But I do like that I can add color or color highlights to my notes on my tab s8. But to be fair I gave the Remarkable a shot. To be honest I just didn't feel like I was using it any differently than my Tab s8. It just seemed like I was carrying another device around but doing the same thing and spending another $350. So I ended up sending it back. I see the appeal for some but it just not needed for my use case.
Yeah, I think it's the right thing to say that they aren't for everyone. Thanks for the interesting and useful comment. I'm interested to see how screens like the TCL NXTPaper stack up against e-ink and regular LCD.
Excellent review covering the development and use of the remarkable well done. I agree with a lot of your suggestions and would add the comment that a smaller version probably in plastic would sell well as an every day carry for taking random notes on the the go for both students and Professionals
I just ordered the Remarkable 2, I am really interested in the Lamy pen. Is this using its own "tip" or Remarkable Tips? would love to hear about it more from you.
Search of handwritten text and lack of the ability to select and move typed text are my two beefs with the R2. Do you think this can be solved with software updates?
Yeah, it can, but whether it will or not is another question. I think remarkable will have a software strategy along with the next device that they release, and I would hope that they are reading comments like these and listening to reviewers' comments. :-)
Notability on my iPad has excellent tools for moving text around, but i just don't like using the iPad and Apple pencil. I hope Remarkable (I just ordered one) offers a better writing experience while keeping a lot of Notability's tools.
you can convert multi-selected pages into a single text page and then search there - a possible workaround, but still far away from a real handwritten text search. Since RM has introduced continous pages the Text is flowing through the whole page without using Textboxes - therefore you cannot "move" text around.
Hi Kit, may I ask please, is the reMarkable 2, as I'm thinking, the best device for an author who wants to write by hand (but deliver text)? I haven't got a good mental picture yet of how one would edit handwriting and text i.e. moving paragraphs and inserting sentences. Could a novel with illustrations be crafted to a finished product on it? Also can it read terrible handwriting and can it spell check. Many thanks for your videos and for your time in answering this, James.
Hiya, no, not the best for full authoring. Really just good enough to start bits of text that you would edit later on a computer. The closest to this this would be Boox, or maybe supernote. But even those, you'd probably want to be doing final edits on a computer. Handwriting recognition is good on all three though, an Di could see you being easily able to draft the chapters first on the remarkable by hand, then first edit with the keyboard. Have a look at some of my comparison videos. I have a few specifically for writers.
@@KitBetts-Masters Very many thanks for that speedy reply. I will seek out your 'for writers' videos. Re. editing, if I could ask again please. Could I edit text with a pen? Could I go back to what's been written and create an extra paragraph amid writing already converted to text? More thanks for your time and I wish you a happy 2024.
Hiya, agreed, most people will be entirely satisfied with the kindle scribe for all that the RM2 can do. And it is a far better reader! RM2 with pen, I think you are looking a minimum of 380 squidderz.
I really want one but I’m still not inclined not to buy yet as I really don’t want another subscription… and I think the next model must only be around the corner.
this office/word 'integration' is the worst. We work in the cloud (onedrive) and I just open a word doc on my ipad mini, take notes and mark stuff and that's also directly visible in on my desktop. I've looked into an e-ink device for reading and notes but just stick to a dedicated e-reader because of the lack of a solid integration with office/docs
Yes, some fascinating commentary on the use of influencers to market the product. Personally, I don't think it's a good thing. I believe influencer marketing is disingenuous (at best) and fraudulent (at worst). It's great to see the reviews of long-term users.
This review is now out of date compared to others. So why are you signposting it as ‘posted 2 weeks ago’? This is misleading. Please synchronise with real time and date. Thanks.
I’ve noticed he’s done this a few times. Maybe he needs more views, but it very misleading for anybody who hasn’t seen his videos before. With all the tablets he has, it’s a lot more beneficial for him to do an update video twice per year to compare them all after firmware updates and continued use. I just don’t understand why he won’t put up a 10 min video about the R2 at the end of 2023, given all the competition he’s reviewed.
I don’t get it he keeps preaching about how the tab ultra pro is the best eink and then he throws this out of date curveball of a video into the mix. I’m so glad I’m done doing research and ordered my Air 3c today, this would be so confusing if I hadn’t already done my research…
Your videos are detailed but the nuisance of having sponsors announcing every 3 minutes in your presentations is out of limits. It sounds like you are chained to each brand you review to get your commission, which confuses me even more. Voja has a better focus on the concepts in this case meaning when the platform is not moving forward such as Remarkable is doing now, he just says it. Thanks for your opinionated video.
Thanks for your feedback, it is very much appreciated. Please understand that I do need to find ways to make money in order to have the time to make my content. It is a real challenge to get the tone right, and I probably don't always! However I do feel that I am honest and balanced in my reviews, I always call out negatives, and I do not spend a lot of time promoting devices that I do not think are good. Check out my reviews of the Lenovo, for one example.
Hello, just had one more thought about this comment. I'm wondering, are you meaning the adverts that appear in the middle of my content? If so, please understand that it's RUclips that has control of how often you see these ads and that I have no control over their content. It might be that remarkable ads are appearing in my video, but that's not a sponsorship of me, that's just Google's advertising machine! I don't like all the ads either, and I watch so much RUclips, that I pay for the premium version, it's great, no ads!
@@KitBetts-Masters I thought you partnered with these folks. Thanks for telling me that. It's annoying when you are trying to get the best of the explanation and get suddenly cut by an ad. English is not my first language and I have to be honest on how hard is for me to follow what you are saying. Sometimes I have to go back and rewatch, doing that with tons of ads is a hard job. Thank you for your honesty.

Superb and helpful video! Thanks for your content, you're doing an amazing job.🙌
Excellent review covering the development and use of the remarkable well done. I agree with a lot of your suggestions and would add the comment that a smaller version probably in plastic would sell well as an every day carry for taking random notes on the the go for both students and Professionals
What is that stylis you are using, can you give me the link
I just ordered the Remarkable 2, I am really interested in the Lamy pen. Is this using its own "tip" or Remarkable Tips? would love to hear about it more from you.
Yeah, I have a little video about that somewhere. Short answer though, it works and it's the thing to do.
Great @@KitBetts-Masters I will do some research on this :)
Hanwang N10 is the one more like remarkable 2, but it have android and different screen size.
At first I thought I was looking at David Guetta discussing Remarkable tablet hahaha ❤
Looks pretty nice! Thank you for your review
@@jamessherburn yeah, not so easy on the remarkable. Very easy on the supernote, or Boox. (I just use word or Google docs on Boox.)
@@KitBetts-Masters Thank you.
Greetings from Poland :)
Thanks much for watching and commenting!
I will not buy it because of subscription. I will by supernote A5x2 when it comes out or onyx boox air 3 c
It might be great but it costs a bomb... I got my kindle scribe for 250 quid and has a backlight... Remind me how much a RM2 (with pen) costs again?
Hiya, agreed, most people will be entirely satisfied with the kindle scribe for all that the RM2 can do. And it is a far better reader! RM2 with pen, I think you are looking a minimum of 380 squidderz.
I really want one but I’m still not inclined not to buy yet as I really don’t want another subscription… and I think the next model must only be around the corner.
Correct. Have a look at some of the alternatives meanwhile.
no music bro
this office/word 'integration' is the worst.
Yeah, I know what you mean. For that reason I recommend Boox devices, as you can use the full office apps connected to your live one drive documents.
(I have to quite a few videos about Boox tablets!)
Hmm. Try uploading your own templates on it...
Yes, some fascinating commentary on the use of influencers to market the product. Personally, I don't think it's a good thing. I believe influencer marketing is disingenuous (at best) and fraudulent (at worst). It's great to see the reviews of long-term users.
Thanks for this, glad you found it useful!
It's not a review, its a guide....
they want to "iterate" their bottom line?........
The remarkable is for introverted thinkers.
are you sponsored by Remarkable?
No, no relationship with them at all. Not even affiliate sales. Much of what you might see about them from bigger RUclipsrs will be though!
This is a review, not an '"In-Depth Complete Guide to the Remarkable 2"!
I'm switching from my Boox tab ultra c to remarkable. With normal use, my screen died and Boox won't repair it. Beware of Boox.
Ok, Tim Roth, tell me more…meow
Sure thing, I have a few more videos for you to dive into bud! :-)
Kit, can you share a referral discount code for Remarkable? The price of the device is expensive
lots of annoying and useless talk, practically damaging for the promotion of thé product
A waste of my hour. Could have been condensed to 10 min’s
Im student and I bought the box ultra c pro. I don’t like it because it has many distractions and doesn’t feel so palled like. Would you recommend the rm pro?
