When the music breaks down with just the piano and Daniel's naked voice rings through empathetically "How does it feel to be you," that just brings a shiver to my spine. Very powerful moment at least for me.
Same here. It's the vulnerability in his voice in that moment that hits me. And the lyric about being a "panther in a dog's world" is pretty profound.
@@ruinsane100 My album copy finally arrived recently. It's awesome.
The most underrated band of all time!
Lyrics:
You wanna be my friend?
Come visit me
I'm right here
Here in the deep end
Storm-born lull-bred semi tamed
We seem to be the same
But I pretend
Raw muscle in a noble frame
Graceful and wild I'm feline
In a world gone canine
And so I'm holding my breath
Just waiting for the lull to end
It was the wild who once willed this world
Now the paper people try their best to keep it conserved
With their papers and pens
Scissoring pretty pink pins
Keeping it tidy and trimmed
Like a big paper bin!
Aah (like a big paper bin)
Aah (like a big paper bin)
How does it feel to be you?
Say, how does it feel to be you?
Anyway
Who the hell do you think you are?
Medicating everyone who's operating on a faster speed than you are?
Sure, you may be right
We might be burning our candles in every end
But what the f*ck
At least we burn, right?
You? Well, meanwhile
You're just standing there
Just watching it
Just measuring and harvesting its flame
Snuffing it
While pretending to be defending normality
A never ending story of whatever you call sanity
Calling us defective?
Really?
Well, I just keep burning clutch
Trying to keep the slower pace of you
The so-called normal
The so-called effective
How does it feel to be you?
She once asked me
I said, I feel like a panther
Trapped in a dog's world
How does it feel to be you?
She once asked me
I said, I feel like a panther
Trapped in a dog's world
How does it feel to be you?
She once asked me
I said, I feel like a panther
Trapped in a dog's world
How does it feel to be you?
She once asked me
I said, I feel like a panther
Trapped-
How does it feel to be you?
She once asked me
I said, I feel like a panther
Trapped in a dog's world
(How does it feel to be you?)
A dog's world (She once asked me)
A dog's world (I said, I feel like a panther)
A dog's world (Trapped-)
A dog's world
The more I listen to this song, the more I love it!
Upon first listen this album left me cold. But after revisiting it and giving it many more spins I get it and feel that it's another PoS masterpiece. It's definitely not an easy one to digest, but it's worth the effort. This is art.
I am loving this whole Album, they took a lot of risks and they were worth taking
Fuck yes, I love prog, and I love electronic music and pop.. so this is very cool to me
When I first listened to this album I thought it is an album with thorns.
After a few listens I saw the beauty of the roses and was no longer stung by the thorns
I am totally comfortable with Daniel taking them wherever he wants them to go. I'm yet to decide if it's my thing, but I will give it a good run and make up my mind objectively. I'd rather be challenged than bored.
Challenged than bored!
Agreed!
Totally. They're in the area in which bands usually just kinda "settle in and ride it out". I'm glad that instead of doing that, they're still thinking progressively. Unfortunately, Dream Theater's kinda settled in.
@@betinmeistika i agreed, that is real progresivrock!
@@erakattack i agree with Dream Theater. They kinda settled and stick with the same formula over the years
I'm kind of digging the electro-industrial influence I'm hearing so far, definitely a different direction for the band, but it's still got a lot of that classic PoS vibe to it. I keep hearing reviews saying this "rap" vocal is a novel thing, but like, he was doing it on friggin' TPE1. It's nothing us PoS fans aren't used to.
they're so weird, usually, all their albums sound different (and great) and now, they applied this to the few songs of their new album. I feel like we're going to get a wine tasting session of genre with their album :D
And the 'Welcome to entropia' intro in the first album is pretty electro/hip hop sounding, so even in the beginning of their career there was already some excerpts of that kind of stuff
Agreed. I'm not sold on the new singles 100%, yet, but I have to admit, the PoS song I loved the most over the years, emotionally, is probably "Diffidentia" from "BE". In the context of that album, that was as close as you could get to a tragical climax. "Rap" vocals are not a new thing for them and I actually appreciate the fact that they know what to do with them.
@@ZioFeda we can change.....
*I SAY WE CAN CHANGE!*
*effectively massive riff*
Still breaching...
Rap has changed for the worse since those times, im hearing the modern style here
One of the boldest bands in prog, for sure. In some ways it sounds like a totally new band, but you can still feel the classic PoS™ trademark in the song.
Amazing! Can't wait to listen to the whole album!
Really my friend?have you ever heard entropia?one hour..?P.E?R.L?
WTF is this s..t and where exactly do u feel that "classic pos"trademark?
Yeah man, to me this song reminds me of old ones like Used, Stress, People Passing By... I'm assuming people dislike Panther because of the "Nu Metal" vibes, but imo they always had some aspects of it.
Don't get me wrong, I listened to the whole album now and Panther is not of my favorite... But it's definitely a PoS style song for me.
This has got to be the best thing I heard in 2020
One of the best. I mean John Petrucci - Terminal Velocty.
I've read some comments that this is not PoS at all, but the lyrics of the song and the other 2 singles relate to each other.
Those songs reflect the struggle of a person that is not "normal" to strive and be accepted in the society, that over and over tries to normalize them with medication and therapy so they fit the "standards".
In a musical level, Daniel and the band might be going in a different direction with the electronic sounds, but that is what prog music is, doesn't it?
I am gonna wait to hear the full album first when it's released and then make up my mind if I like it or not. PoS never disappoints anyway hehe.
If you listen to Entropia, this is in their DNA. It's new but not surprising. I love everything they've done though. I feel like Daniel is a kindred spirit with me (and many fans).
Can't stop listening these 3 singles again and again
Those drums are sick
I've never been a fan of electronic music. When the song started I thought: "I'm not gonna like this. This is way too electronic for me". Then I continued listening and I couldn't but love the song. There's just something about this song (and all the songs released so far) that hits me hard. Even though I don't like rap or hip hop very much, and I don't like electronic music, and I enjoy guitars as much as the next guy (I play guitar myself), this and the other songs reach me so effortlessly. But music has always been like this: It's not about the pieces, it's about how you put them together, and Daniel and the guys are masters at this craft.
Exactly this. The only thing I would change about this comment is that I play drums instead of guitar.
I was a guy who isn't into electronic too. But after discover Ulver I changed my mind. Electronic music just simply open a whole new possibility for our creativity. Yes the connection with real instrument is important but performing or produce electronic music takes a lot of talent too. I'm just saying.
@@bonedface Don't get me wrong, I'm not downplaying electronic music, or rap or hip hop. It is simply that it hasn't connected with me many times.
I Listen from Prog Metal to Fusion Jazz, Trance, Chill-out, Ambient, New Age, Movie Soundtrack...and i love such electronic influence in metal Music!
If you don't like "electronic music" that much, then I'd really recommend you to listen to Black Light Machine by Frost*. It contains one of the most mind blowing guitar solos that I've ever heard from the 2000s and a really cool "techno section" in the middle.
Pretty much the best song ever.
Might be a grower of an album. Mixed on these singles so far. Scarsick took a while with me but is now one of my faves so we will see!
Having listened to PoS for the better part of two decades, I can say that much of their work has been a grower for me. It takes time to process their songs and concepts, for sure. They do a stellar job of keeping that a constant thing with each album by reinventing the sound over and over again, so it's impossible to say what they'll do next and whether or not it will be immediately enjoyed or need many listens to enjoy.
@@ForeverUnknowing couldn't agree more. I remember thinking "BE" was rubbish when I first listened... Its a masterpiece
It was most definitely a grower for me. I get choked up when listening to this album but can't quite put a finger on exactly why. The power of music is sometimes inexplicable. Although one line in particular is clear and it brings me to tears: "And outside there's a world on fire, and you're still debating, while the flames run higher and higher, incinerating..." For me it symbolizes the terrible fires in the Amazon, Australia and the west coast of the US burning billions of animals to death. I can't even type that without tearing up. :(
So they are still making masterpieces. Thank you guys, you saving me again, and again with these progressive albums
I came to RUclips to watch for the 9999th time the "Accelerator" video, and then I am in front of one more PoS masterpiece...
Dude! Daniel Gildenlöw is a genius!
Greetings from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil!
My favorite track from the album ❤️
This will be an interesting album, probably many will hate it, but I always appreciate exploration.
totally
Well, I just discovered them with these 2 songs and I kinda love them...I did not listen to their earlier work but I will look into it...
Its an amazing album !
i find it better than last 3 ones
Never heard about them before, this album blew my brains off.
These are portions of an abstract painting. I trust it will come together brilliantly upon hearing the entire work of art.
I just discovered these dudes last month. They have so much awesome material to go through, and this new album seems like it's going to be just as amazing. I can't wait!
It's a crazy, weird range of sounds you're gonna hear. But some of those albums have touched me more than anything else.
Welcome to the most restless discography in modern progressive rock/metal my friend. Start at Entropia, don't skip 12:5 or Falling Home, check out the live stage production of BE if you can on youtube (along with the research/reading sources), remember that though The Perfect Element and Remedy Lane are high-water masterpieces, this band is capable of anything under the sun (so don't get turned off by the dark bleak weirdness of Scarsick, or the change of style and genre on Road Salt). Welcome!
P.S. I didn't even cover everything!
@@aniketsanyal5586 Hell yea! Thanks for the tips. I will def follow your advice. I don't mind dark bleak weirdness either so that wont be an issue :)
@@erakattack Yea they seem VERY eclectic. I love a band that can embrace a wide variety of genres instead of pumping out the same album year after year.
@@SpankDrums wide genres and many concepts (musically and lyrically), that's Pain of Salvation for you haha
I think that there is an interesting problem in fans' judgment of the quality of an artist's new work.
Consider positive reactions, first. When fans react positively to a piece of art by an artist they like, it is really difficult to distinguish what is due to the work and what is due to their affective connection with the artist. I mean, would these fans saying this song is awesome have similar reaction listening to this song played by another band? I know I wouldn't.
Consider the negative reactions, now. When fans dislike a piece of artists they like, chances are that this is not only due to a genuine reaction to the work, but the frustration that follows from the artist's creation not filling their expectations. I would say that most fans of PoS prefer Remedy Lane and Perfect Element style over Scarsick, for example. Here we see a very Scarsick vibe, and we can react negatively precisely for the unmatch between our expectations, which could be problematic, for it is kinda putting a limitation over the artists' creative process (think about Kiss, for example, that has been doing the exact same thing since the 19th century - they are pretty much restricted by their fans in this sense).
Anyway, I don't know whether we are ever free to evaluate a piece of art independently from these arbitrary dispositions towards the artists, but, certainly, there is a tradeoff between doing what your fans want and following your creativity freely. I think PoS just allow their 'creativity' to flow freely, assuming their fans would be elevated enough to acknowledge the merits of doing so. Personally, I appreciate their artistic freedom. But I can't avoid the frustration listening to something so far from that which has made me love PoS.
Interesting thougths and ideas, and I agree with your theoretical approach.
Personally, though I love the first era of PoS like anybody else, I liked "Scarsick" very much. Not the "Road Salt" albums; but I liked "In the passing light of day" well enough. More than the style or arrangements, what I feel is a bit lacking is cool melodic ideas that can lift the song. At first listen, at least. In general I am an album type and not a single type, so I prefer to be immersed in an album atmosphere, where I can get in tune, in resonance with the music at some point, it generally helps to enjoy things I am not so used to.
I agree with both of you. And I can't say I really appreciate the 3 singles from this new album.
I find they give in many of their characteristic traits trying to be more and more peculiar album by album. This sounds not always so good to my ears.
I abandoned PoS after Remedy Lane (I bought the albums but I gave up after 5 or 6 listenings). I really appreciate In the passing light of day instead.
I don't know but I'm still hoping there's more than electronic and hip-hop in this last album but every new single they publish my hopes waver
I agree 👍 very well put!
That's a very nice way of saying that this is trash and borderline unlistenable. Everyone wants to use the "artistic" augment, and that's fine, to each his own. But this borders on active trolling, which is a vibe I've gotten from PoS in the past. It's the type of arrogant pseudointellectual crap that Gildenlow has been putting out for years. When I was an emotional college kid it hit me, but it's just boring now, and there's very little going on musically to hold me. Harmonically it's simplistic, the over reliance on programming has been done, and the instrumentation doesn't show any mastery even though I know they have it.
@@DCJayhawk57 I think your opinion is marred by being too angry at PoS. It's not trash and not unlistenable, this track definitely has no 'dangerous', 'avantgarde' or 'violent' edge. It's fairly unoffensive, in fact, melodically simple and not so intriguing, that's all. The other two tracks are better, although they are far from being exceptional, but I wouldn't say they are bad at all. Posturing and trolling from PoS has been there from day 1, like from a lot of prog/prog metal bands. It's when substance lacks behind the form that the trouble arises. Here, the form is not so bad or uninteresting, but strong melodies and hooks are missing - and solos, but that might just be me.
Sounds fresh! I love this band, they gives me hope!
Just another reason why I love Pain Of Salvation - Always pushing the boundaries - Continues to grow on me - Love it
PANTHER song UNBELIEVABLE .. After listening to PANTHER 👉 Now I Cant Wait to Hear The Full Album .. where is my calendar 🗓 At Today .. love the clip love the song .. let me repeat the track again & again & again & again & Again till ETERNITY 👉👉👉 👑PANTHER👑
wtf
Still dumbfounded by this new direction, but i love that they're always unpredictable. I'll take the time to listen many times to this record before making any judgement.
You "get" it :)
New direction? This is stale rehashing of genres that went "out" in the early 2000s. Maybe you're too young to remember, maybe not.
This is industrial rap rock with his typical melodramatic Jesus Christ Superstar vocals. Nothing innovative or fresh about it, other than that it's a semi-new direction for the band.
@@DCJayhawk57 Shut up, i forgot more about music that you'll ever know.
Pretty much the same reaction i get with every new POS album, yet i always end up appreciating it more and more after multiple listens.
Whether you like this or not, can’t deny that these guys are incredible creative and innovative.
I was thinking the same...I did not enjoy much in the first audition, but their music is complex, must be savored several times.
Outstanding....
This song is sooooo cool......they really never disappoint, no matter with what they experiment....greatness!
So great.
Amazing I think I like this single the most! Can't wait for the album 🔥🔥🔥
Based on the singles released thus far, this album is giving me Scarsick vibes
Scarsick and Entropia.
This album is giving me "this is total shit" vibes!

This band is insane
What keeps coming up is the theme of not fitting in - and the concept of the upcoming album is slowly pieced together. Very intimate, different, superbly written and produced. More please.
Can’t wait to see this live.
Really enjoyed this track.
That groove, You Rock !!!!!
Just listen to the album tittle song Remedy Lane and you will get those electro-industrial vibes. Or just listen to the opening song on The Perfect Element I to hear some rap vocals. This kind of music is the part of PoS since the very beginning of their career. I'm the old school fans 🤟🤟🤟
But those elements were only decent spices back then. Now they're used as main proper side dish. :)
There is a difference between using some electronic and rap elements and this. And yes, i'm also a old school fan of PoS.
@@michalsadlon9472 lets wait for the full album to come
@@pepeperez9268 perhaps it will be more acceptable when we listen this song as a part of a concept album

This super fun To Listen to!
Absolutely obsessed with the three singles so far!
Amazing song!
I love this song and i love this electro influence in metal and rock Music! Stratospheric!!!
I have known this band vor so long, since their first albums. Great to see / hear them evolve to new musical territories. I am sure that not all fans will appreciate this, but it is kind of cool. Like it.
The chorus is beautiful
Seems like Daniel has been listening to Tori Amos and Kate Bush again. Love it!
as a bass player i must comment: more PoS covers please, also, great job on that acoustic cover :D
@@augustopoletti1378 Thanks man! I'd love to do some more PoS..
Glad I am not the only one that noticed that! I hear the Tori influence throughout this album. But that is also the case in other songs, such as "Darkness of Mine". I remember reading Daniel is a huge Tori fan. Makes me love him even more.
Edit: It's also interesting to reflect on the fact that Daniel has been listening to Billie Eilish and I can hear some of that in there too. I never thought I would be into a pop star, but Daniel and Mikael Akerfeldt piqued my interest in Billie and now I'm a huge fan. She's amazing.
Such a fantastic song!!!
Absolutely loved the album, and this track too. I feel it added quite a lot of flavor and variety to the whole context it belongs to.
This is absolutely lovely!
It’s different. But I’m sure i’m gonna love it one day.
Dengerin full album dulu kali ya baru bisa menilai. Tapi di antara ke 3 single PoS. Yang ini kece badai. While Accelerator sounds more like a classic PoS. Restless Boy yg paling kurang masuk di kuping saya (walau drumming-nya keren). But i know it'll grow 😍
AMAZING.
Amazing job with the new album. I love bands that do not hesitate to go new places, and PoS always delivers. Too bad they can’t launch a new album every year.
MORRIS!!! 🤩🤩🤩🤩
Great song as always... Great clip indeed! Most strangest thing about the video is Johan is dressed 🤣🤣🤣
Sounds amazing
Korn of Salvation ... I like it.
they took "wear a mask" at a whole new level lol
Tiitle tracks usually have some weight behind them, they can often be used to predict the direction that the band is taking on the album, and this being a title track just points me to the conclusion that this album might not be for me.
Which is an okay thing, obviously, bands are more than welcome to change their sound with passage of time.
Remedy Lane (song) sounds nothing like Remedy Lane (the album). Anyway, I hope you are right with Panther. This song blows everything they've done since Scarsick out of the water. Absolute masterpiece.
W B oi, i’m happy you like it, my dude, and even consider it their best work. Tastes differ.
Mate you are talking about the band that had a 2 minute transitional song as a title track to one of the best prog albums ever. This is the only song on the album that features rapping, the rest of the album is pretty much the polar opposite of this song. There is also a surprising amount of acoustic guitar on this album so there's that.
Panther of Salvation.
I love this so much!
really enjoyed this song, nice to find something new that flows with the moment anybody listen more than once?
Oh my God !!! I love this track so much ...
OMG!! Pure genius at so many levels...
Man, I love this new style
Bottom line on this track, the chorus is infectious. Cant wait for the album to get here.
This is quite an interesting song. It kinda slaps.
Nice dogs. Needs more panthers.
new fresh music style of them but I still like it
Всё новое - это хорошо забытое старое! :-)
Everything new is well forgotten old.

Pretty cool new directions on this album.

THIS ALBUM IS SO AWESOME UNTIL NOW
Heavyocity Damage Loop spotted at the beggining!
Very vibes, 2020!
Very Scarsick, but of course completely its own corner of music ... so very good. Daniel and the band are as fearless as ever, and never more creative than now. PANTHER is looking good so far
Pretty much how I feel about the upcoming album
Daniel's voice is like silk
I don't know why i like it so much. i'm more into their heavy stuff but this is somehow great
Its heavy!
One thing I've come to expect after being a PoS fan for a long time is to expect the unexpected. One never knows what direction Daniel takes from album to album, or even from song to song. Didn't care for the "rap" part, but other than that it feels ok.
Hype for new album... Go Pos.
About time POS, welcome back.
Damn good 💪🤘

trapped in a dog's world!!!
dont know where i 1st heard this but after i did i listened to the album and i then bought it on VInyl (came with a cd too)
it’s so well produced, man. this all works for me, and i honestly didn’t want to admit it. i also don’t know why this works well for me, but scarsick doesn’t i can’t put my finger on it
Лучшая группа современности!
I already get it, this is splendid. All this time I was wondering why all the craziness in the exploration and production of such an unique sound for this album. I loved accelerator instantly, but had a bit in digesting both Restless boy and Panther even more. Now, I've heard all the album, and I just feel how perfectly this song fits as the title song for such a masterpiece. Mindblowing
Just came back again to say, this album is gonna be a fucking wild ride. Cant wait.
I wonder if Johan had immediate regrets about returning when Daniel thrust a furry mask at him first day back
I was just listening to Kristopher. Such an immense contrast but still I love The Gildenlow's music.
Kristoffer's discography is amazing as well! Love all 3 albums!
Yes!!! I never knew that I kinda missed the rap
the sound of this album is immaculate. a cool blend of the super over production of scarsick type stuff and the really raw road salt vibes. the songs have been okay. i've never liked their rap rock parts. but this song isn't awful. and the music parts (everything minus the vocals) are a 10/10. RESTLESS BOY is still my top of the new songs so far. But the drums on this one are equally as awesome.
I know what I'm craving for the most. And it's getting close!
I get some Faith No More vibes here. Also a little Portugal. The Man.
Does anyone know what controller is Johan playing? I can see it's a m-audio, but which one?
Speaking as a longtime fan of the band, someone who didn't click with Passing Light like everyone else seems to have (I find it incredibly mediocre overall), and someone who finds Scarsick totally brilliant and fascinating, I love this. I would've liked more verses like the second though, that part is pure Scarsick. The "How does it feel to be you?" is a bit repetitive but oh well. I like the general vibe this album seems to have going, I just hope some songs have a bit more going on than the singles. I love what I hear but minus Accelerator these singles have been over far too soon with little buildup or payoff. I hope the album ties everything together.
Have to laugh at those thinking these rap and electronic elements are some kinda crazy weird shift for the band though. They've been incorporating this kinda stuff since the beginning, keep telling yourself they've "changed for the worse" etc, next album will be different once again. You have to expect this by now, come on.
Hmm, if it's sound like Scarsick, maybe it is »The Perfect Element III«.
@@gaspode8 do you find passing light mediocre because everyone love it or because you truly feel like it is?
Patrick Balkany I think this question was for Bobby and not for me, am I right?
@@gaspode8 yeah my bad haha
@@patrickbalkany7989 I'm not so petty that I'd dislike something because others don't, it's just an observation. I never got what people generally saw in that album, especially the title track. I like a lot of parts on the album I just think comparatively it's very, very weak amongst their other output. And I include Panther in that now that I've listened to the album quite a lot. I'm enjoying it a good deal more.
