being in Tampa it was headed straight for us and ended up hitting fort myers. this is terrible my cousin lost everything and this coulda been us. my heart goes out to all these people this is so sad.

No this is what happens when you build on barrier islands.. cape coral in waterfront property and the damage is nowhere near as bad

I grew up for half of my childhood on that island. This is my wife’s old account. Technically it’s Estero Island but aka Fort Myers Beach. It’s destroyed. Almost completely. Hope they rebuild. My Dad grew up on that island. My parents got divorced when I was young but whenever I was staying with my Dad I was there. Half my childhood memories. The island still exists. We just moved back to Fort Myers after six years out of state. We survived. Our condo still stands. Though it knocked out our windows and we have water damage. No power. No water. But we were blessed compared to others. Others lost EVERYTHING. Even their lives. And what’s more expensive than that? God bless those that lost more than us. Great good has come out of great evil. The children are encouraged and super enthusiastic I think due to the all the positive new human interaction us helping neighbors and neighbors helping us. (it’s like a great adventure for them as well). My son said yesterday was the best day of his life. With no power. Somehow great good has come out of this. Ian means: “God is Gracious” supposedly. I’m inclined to agree. He is. Especially in the trial. We have everything we need somehow. Even more than we need. Even now. Maybe things are better without tv and ads and distractions that do not matter.
Why rebuild ? Do you want to go through this again in a year or two ? DUH ….

You forgot that socialism will bring these communities back on line....over 30k electricians are working overtime to bring back power to these communities and these communities ain't paying for it. When it's all said and done, tens of billions will be given for free.

ALL the Republicans voted NO on the Infrastructure Bill and Climate Change...so, it is up to the American People...keep voting for these Republicans who put politics and rich donors above the well being of the American people. Who keep voting NO on critical improvements on our nations crumbling infrastructure OR Vote for candidates (D/R/I) who put country over their party and who want to build back a better America!
