The scumbag politicians who are paid by our tax dollars have the best health insurance and benefits our tax paying dollars can buy. They still go to bat for the big money donors and screw the taxpayers. Charge the people who live in the country outrageous prices for healthcare. Life saving medicine they decide to die or buy and live in endless debt because of the rich getting richer off the sick and homeless. These low life politicians and departments like the Food and Drug Administration, insurance companies and the pharmaceutical supply chain need to all go away. So much waste can be cut out alone by eliminating just the administration costs.

I have been stung by bees many times in my life. Each time a person gets stung the reaction gets worse. Last time my hand was swelled for 2 weeks, but more importantly within seconds of being stung I had brief trouble breathing and was close to passing out. Next time might be anaphylactic shock and death. I can't afford EpiPens, as they are currently priced, and I am not poor.

But you don't need to say:

Irish don't have free healthcare for all. We have free healthcare for those earning less than 188 a week, those on benefits, children and disabled. Everybody else pays and similarly pays for.ambulances too, but vastly less because we lack the corruption in the medical sector.
Ireland may have high welfare but when cost of living is taken into account, the purchasing power in terms of welfare is nothing compared to other European countries. There are over 10 thousand homeless in Ireland , a third of these are children, and considering our population that is insane! And it's because of a lack of facilities, social housing, along with exponential private rent spikes. It's become a Landlord state. In 10 years the number of people in social housing has halved, and no more large social housing project has been developed in nearly 15 years. Ireland a strong social welfare state? Think you're a bit out of tune with people's struggles around you mate.
Corruption galore, poverty stricken, child homelessness, mass gentrification, post liberalist demands from the IMF and EU, state privatisation, Denis o Briens contracts, rogue police force, highest suicide rates in Europe in our working class areas like epidemic ballyfermot, on and on mate, and the middle class are only concerned about climate change. I badly injured my leg and because I was in an inaccessible location, I was taken to hospital by an air Ambulance helicopter, which arrived in 15 minutes.
I had surgery to repair the Quadriceps tendon in my leg and spent 5 days in hospital. When I was sent home in an ambulance, I had home visits by the community nursing team, I was supplied with equipment to make living by myself easier during my recovery and once the repair was properly healed, I had physiotherapy until I regained full use of my leg.
During this period I was supplied with all the necessary pain and anti blood clotting medication I needed.

NHS is a bloated entity and very costly. Planned spending for the Department of Health and Social Care in England is £147.5 billion in 2019/20.
£2,234 per person. Most of that is paid for by the middle class, so Higher ~£3000+ by the middle class.
      news.sky.com/nhs-in-numbers
With Thanks to Obamacare (government program) . health expenditures per-person went dramatically up to nearly $10,000 on average. Also you leave out how much government regulation sis put on US Healthcare that adds costs of treatments. Government efforts to reform health care and cut costs raised them instead.
Chronic illnesses, such as diabetes and heart disease, have increased. They are responsible for 85% of health care costs. Almost half of all Americans have at least one of them. That pushes up risks of healthcare costs.
Between 1997 and 2007, drug prices tripled and despite the new drugs not been much better, the consumer demands the new drugs, which pushes up the price of healthcare. U.S. private doctors' offices need 7 people to do billing for every 10 physicians and that includes government regulations. A big reason is that there are so many types of payers. In addition to Medicare and Medicaid, there are thousands of different private insurers. Each has its own requirements, forms, and procedures. Hospitals and doctors must also chase down people who don't pay their portion of the bill which increases costs of healthcare.
Also US Treatments are in the pioneering of new treatments which are costly, before been rolled out to other nations. This is not factored in to costs.
The second cause of rising health care costs is an epidemic of preventable diseases. The four leading causes of death are heart disease, cancer, chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder, and stroke. Chronic health conditions cause most of them. They can either be prevented or would cost less to treat if caught in time. Risk factors for heart disease and strokes are poor nutrition and obesity. Smoking is a risk factor for lung cancer (the most common type) and COPD. Obesity is also a risk factor for the other common forms of cancer.
These diseases cost an extra $7,900 per person. That’s five times more than the health care costs for a healthy person. The average cost of treating diabetes, for example, is $26,971 per family. These diseases are difficult to manage because patients get tired of taking the various medications. Those who cut back find themselves in the emergency room with heart attacks, strokes, and other complications.
Like the US government run VA right upto and including Obama. VA had waiting list for waiting list with outdated equipment. They patients would be cured by Death on the varied waiting lists, rather than VA health treatments.
On simple things the government run healthcare systems do great, but anything out of the ordinary, they are a horror show, where you are long waiting lists for anything else. Also you have very little say in your healthcare or of those of your child. If they decide to withhold further treatment and put you or your child in palative care, then you hare done for. If it is cheaper to put you on pain killers for the remainder of your life, than treat you for your illness, then pain killers you get.
In UK and in Ireland Brest checks run by the government healthcare was a disaster and very costly for women.

The health scandals with one after another is ongoing. Government Bureaucrats which currently govern this country healthcare system, are not interested in patient outcomes, but in controlling admin budgets that they always fails to do. They do not care if money can be better spent, instead they choose instead to manage the risks they know about, rather than risk devils we don’t know.
The constant overruns for a dedicated Children Hospital that they have been trying to build overruns have been going on 10 years now. www.thejournal.ie/readme/opinion-the-national-childrens-hospital-is-a-case-in-point-but-why-is-public-healthcare-in-ireland-such-a-mess-4487876-Feb2019/
Staff moral is very low and turn over of staff high.
      www.thejournal.ie/hse-epilepsy-funding-grainne-oconnor-809197-Feb2013/

    Hi
I am a Brit, living and working in the UK.
Here is some context for the UK NHS costs.
I earn about £35000 pa before taxes, I pay about £4000 pa (about 350pm) IN TAX for the healthcare that covers my whole family.
There is NO copay after that.
There is a charge for prescription meds, a flat rate of £9 per item.
But again, we can pay £12 pm and that covers ALL prescriptions.
We do have wait times, generally based on medical necessity, which can vary from about a week to about 6 months (these numbers have got much worse over the last 10 years because of massive underfunding from the government).
We also have private medical insurance and private healthcare, these are mainly used to bypass the NHS waiting times, cost about £800-1000 per year per person, and does have a small copay (£100-200 per year) but will have some restrictions and exemptions.
This is why these people are so stunned by US healthcare costs.

The establishment wing of the Democratic Party is currently center-right at most, but continues to drift further into the right wing every day as it attempts (and fails) to sway centrist/moderate (mostly anti-Trump) Republicans to compensate for alienating its progressive base. Meanwhile, the Republican Party has doubled down on its right wing policies without resistance from the establishment Democrats, who tend to favor neoliberal economic policies anyway. Even outlier candidates like Sanders or even Howie Hawkins of the Green Party are just enough to the left of the center to be considered left-leaning centrists in the political paradigm of most other industrialized countries.

I live in the UK - we love our health system. Literally, love it. We see a doctor on the same day. We call an ambulance, it has to get there as fast as possible generally, 10 mins - it costs nothing. W need a prescription, for most people, it's free, for some it's $10.00 - and that's for everything. We get free operations, free hospital and clinic care, including free meals etc. We get free scans, free blood, and other tests. You do have to wait for less urgent operations but they do get done. If you want to go private you can, but because the NHS is so good and efficient anything complicated the private hospitals go running to the NHS. Oh, by the way, we get 5 weeks paid holidays plus 6 days extra free public holidays. You need to demand a change guys - you pay your taxes - demand free healthcare.

And since Doctors can only see to one person at a time, when thousands of people get in line at the same time, nearly everybody will have to wait. Sometimes several hours, days, months...even years.
So, on one hand you have,"How will I pay for this?" while on the other youve got,"Am I going to get to see the Doctor before treatment will be pointless?" What I had learned working as a pharmacist is sometimes having insurance is not even worth it. The premiums, the doughnut holes, co-pays hurt the patient and the health care professionals financially. Most of the medications and doctor visits are underpaid by the insurances for the providers, and doughnut holes make the patient pay the AWP of a drug out of pocket which is 10-20 times higher than the actual cost. Insurances underpay so that patients can overpay. The life saving drugs are priced outrageously which should be classified as crime against humanity.

Also, if we all had access to basic healthcare, we would all have the "freedom" to live long lives and rarely have to worry about medical bankruptcies. Furthermore, if some of us need additional healthcare than Medicare, then we have the "choice" to get additional insurance, but for others Medicare would be more than enough. Finally, if every other developed country (Canada, Germany, the United Kingdom, France, Italy, Sweden, the Netherlands, Japan, South Korea, Australia, and New Zealand) can implement this and save money, why can't the United States do the same and help "Make America Great Again" for everyone at least on the issue of healthcare?
