I absolutely agree. I was a critic for 29 years, Bruce owns 7 of my top 10 and this was the single best live song he ever played. I was there about 25 feet in front of the stage. Listen to the crowd in the background carefully. This was about 6000 people in an old ice skating rink, Winterland, in its closing week. He left us exhausted. The way he kept moving up the guitar fret feeding the energy still floors me when I see these videos. Thanks!
That note at 2:58 to kick it off…damn. The sound of his guitar Is just amazing…been listening to this, the best version, for 43 years now, still blows my mind each time.
Danny was the Man of the E Street Band!!
Ive heard this version of Prove it all night for the first time i think about seven years ago and i still listen to it atleast once a week. No Fking question this is the best song ever recorded. God i love you E Street Band
I bought this Winterland bootleg in 78 in Greenwich Village & this is the best of all the versions--sounds just as good over 30 years later
The best version I’ve ever heard, and I’ve heard some beauty’s.
Atlanta is up there. He went big in Atlanta
I remember we lined up for this show at like 8:00 am the day of the show and we were upset because 3 people were ahead of us. We still had front row (general mission) just to the right of Bruce's mic. Incredible show.
I think me and my friends were right behind you in line. Personally, I had not really listened to Springsteen before, but I had a car so they gave me their extra ticket if I drove. We skipped school, hung out all day and were right up front as well. Needless to say, I’ve been a huge fan ever since. This is still the best concert I’ve been to.
Roy Bittan smokes it on this song, and so does Bruce. Without a doubt, best version.
We're still provin' it all night (and all day) and winning the fight! 1978--now over 40 years later,, 2020, we are here by the grace of God -a winning success!
2019, this version of this song still is one of my favorite songs of all time and always plays in my head... 1983 San Vito Italy, Liza... Craig Bruno, Mr Jones, Kim, Jack... all these years later... Miss you all terribly
I've listened to this hundreds of times and it is still amazing. this version of this song and 'because the night' in the same show. the most incredible guitar solos ever. you are very lucky to have seen this, because I've had to use my imagination. awesome.
Ava Daniel-Johnson: Ava, could have written this. Those two songs from this concert...soundtrack to my life. Best 20 minutes of music ever. Been listening to them for 40 years.
Ava Daniel-Johnson music peaked that night.
00000
0000pp
The sound is just crazy
This is simply smoking. Just amazing.
This or the Passaic versions are the best I've heard. Its a pick em. Just the best
Unfortunately no video exists anymore. Promotor Bill Graham's San Francisco offices were firebombed on May 7, 1985, and the only known video was destroyed in the ensuing blaze. Fortunately the concert was broadcast live on a local radio station (note the reference to bootlegging in the following Racing In The Streets) and so this fine audio exists. And most fortunately, I was there, covering the show for a local newspaper. Second best Springsteen concert I ever saw.
curious what was the best Bruce show you saw?
One of his best concerts. That intro is insane
gr8sword music peaked this night. This is Mozart level stuff here
David Sancious A Very Very Talented Act.... To Follow Up Here... And. WE Have. Thank You Mr. Bitten For Your Devotion Heartfelt
secondo me la migliore versione di sempre............
I tried to weep but my face was already melting off
Nice jam session
That was an excellent show. I'm just sorry that Winterland is no more. It's hard to believe that it's been 25 years since the demise of Winterland.
Was at the closing with the Dead ,NRPS and the Blues Bros., with half of SNL running around all night...too much fun!
Awesome! What a great track! Never before heard by me!
I was at both of these Winterland shows, unbelievable! Broadcast live on KSAN FM I believe. They did live broadcasts from various venues around town back then
Happened to see both also and had the pleasure of being right against the stage for the first show. Greatest live concert I've ever seen and that is out of 28 Springsteen shows.
Mike Donaldson I was maybe 2 or 3 back from the stage & to the right! I'll never forget it!
I'm so incredibly jealous
Back then he was not that big and would come talk to us after the shows. I was there also. Saw him in San Antonio, earlier that summer and the next night I think in Houston. In San Antonio we scalped tickets and got center stage 2nd row 3 and 4th seats, back when he would lay on the hands of the crowed. F#$KIN rock and Roll.
I thought it was KFOG,no?
Sontuosa introduzione, la migliore di sempre. Da brividi.
He went back to the Alvin Lee by the Sea days for a second there!!! I’m glad to see he went there. I agree this the best solo I’ve ever heard him do on this song….he decide to compete in the guitar arena one last time!!!
Highly underrated at lead guitar.
Best version of the song ive ever heard
you are the fucking man for putting this whole song up. god bless your soul. i love this song, i play it all the time on my ipod when im driving in the truck. i have the whole concert but not on me all the time and i was stuck w/ that crappy 9 min version b/c of the time limit. you are fucking awesome, in summation.
What! I was there, thankgod. Exceptional sound, Thank you!!
Kathy Bishop you’ve seen God then
Bella in studio.....travolgente live❤️❤️
BEST BEST stuff Springsteen ever put out!!! Love you LIZA always
Amazing version, can't decide between this one and richfield 78 though.
Lizard Rex- Was there too. My oh my what a show! The show I compare all others too, and it’s not even fair to the other shows . E St was F- ing Smokin’ ...Bruce was having a blast and we all knew we were seeing something Special . Even for S.F. . Have the SF Chronicle review framed .
I love this version the best one
Just fabulous !!!!

Inarrivabile
Buona serata!
@MsBrucejuice so msbrucejuice does browse youtube looking for great bruce like the rest of us. I had thought u were solely a bruce supplier to the masses
the truck i was refering to is my tractor trailer. i dont call my personal pickup truck "the truck".
guitar at 3:00 totally kicked down the door!
is there a video or dvd of that concert?
I really prefer the version played at the Roxy in Los Angeles 78....to me the best by far
An ongoing debate of Bruce fans for years. Lol. I respectfully disagree, but Roxy is right there. Like asking what’s your favorite Bruce song? Depends the exact minute on how I’m feeling.
BTW. Mine is Winterland Night.
youtube to MP3
how can i download this song?
????Exactly what would that be a 7:27 then?
@MsBrucejuice didnt mean anything by it
Never heard this arrangement of this song before. Now I know where Patti Smith ripped off "Federick" from
They were recording in the same studio at the time
SOLOK1017
It's a great version, no question. But, no sax solo... so, not the BEST version.
there is a sax solo
Sax solo at 7:27
78’Prove it All Night are amazing
I think I still prefer Passaic
