When you see someone this big and this strong and still so explosive.
Olympic weightlifting is sport that creates insane athletes. I'm ex basketball player and I was lucky that my cousin was olympic weightlifter, so I trained with him. Snatching, jerking, cleaning, deadlifts... best exercises to increase explosiveness, give you super core stability and great vertical.

I don't think so.. In terms of Raw Brute Strength most Strongman competitors are better than Lasha.. Olympic Weightlifting has more emphasis on Techniques and leverage points unlike Strongman which is plain torture on the body and has most emphasis on Brute Strength and a bit of endurance.. With that being said im not implying Lasha isn't strong.. he's the Strongest Olympic Weightlifter to this day but i don't think he has the static Strength to keep up people like Thor but i do think he can do well in Strongman if he started training for it.

Agreed it’s an interesting topic. The top comment is interesting and I’ve said this as well, I believe Lasha could get world class deadlift numbers and squat numbers however, before Thor and top strongmen could get even a respectable snatch/c&j, in which case if it ever did happen could boast an argument for Lasha being the strongest all around athlete of all time. But of course this is entirely hypothetical and also not fair bc if Thor had spent his childhood learning weightlifting etc he could have done just as well if not better. Just fun ideas to play around with though!

As I stated, I don’t think he needs to change anything. He already has the mass and strength to do well, he would just need to train the specific events. For some reason, some people think that strongmen take absurd levels of gear, compared to other sports, which I don’t believe to be true. At that level, while still conceding they dope, strongmen take years to reach their peak, so hard work, genetics and consistency take precedence over gear use. Novikov is an outlier and even then, his classic strongman static lifts, while impressive, are not world record levels. Upping doses only takes you so far and even then, the receptors burn out quicker and these athletes have short careers. This is more common in bodybuilding and powerlifting where some athletes come out of nowhere and then quickly fade away. And let’s not forget this years recent meets in weightlifting featured the same phenomena, such as Nasar.
While some strongmen like Johnny Perry and Mike Jenkins passed away at a young age, sheer body mass plays a part in it. That being said, we see weightlifters die young, also, such as Dobrev and Süleymanoğlu.
As such things tend to quite secretive and shrouded in rumors, we can only speculate on the above

Weightlifting only focuses on a few lifts, for 1 rep maxes only. Strongman contains a plethora of events, which include not only pure strength, but speed and power. Weightlifters also don’t have the disadvantage that strongmen do in competition. Strongmen compete in harsh heat, in natural terrain sometimes, meanwhile weightlifters compete in buildings.
This isn’t to try to discredit weightlifting, as it is not an easy discipline, which is why most people don’t do it. This is to convey how strongman is a unique discipline which cannot be compared to anything else. Bodybuilding, powerlifting, and weightlifting are all conventional/comfortable, whereas strongman is all about going past your comfort zone and doing things which shouldn’t be humanly possible. Lifting atlas stone, pulling trucks, planes, etc. It can’t be compared to conventional lifts.

This is the most sensible comment in all this series! Power= work done in unit time... See with what speed Lasha snatches 225 kg, and remember that one horsepower is the power needed to lift 75 kg a height of 1 meter in 1 second: assuming the barbell travels 2.5 m in what I measured to be 3.75 s, this gives exactly 2 hp! Now let's do the same calculation for Thor: he lifted 501 kg for a mere 0.75 m in about 4 seconds. This yields around 1.25 hp...So Lasha is definitely more POWERFUL.

He's the best weightlifter, definitely, but not the strongest man.
Not even the strongest weightlifter ever. It's controversial but certainly the case. The oldschool weightlifters who had to compete in the clean & press as well could strict press 220kg+ which is hardly matched by today's strongmen. Most people don't understand that the modern weightlifters typically press like 1/2 of thier overhead jerk.

Powerlifter beats weightlifter in powerlifting, weightlifter beats powerlifter in weightlifting. Comparing the two or saying one is better than the other makes no sense. Many weightlifters call themselves woke and open minded but then judge and talk down upon powerlifters just because they're doing a different sport.

@@uwuman101 as someone who has done both, the snatch has taken me much much longer to learn and get semi good weight on. In the snatch the technique plays such a huge role that being strong does not equal lifting heavy. The logpress, while still needing a fair bit of technique to do properly, still relies much more on actual strength to do well at. Stupid to compare those lifts tbh

C&J 270 is a lot harder and more technical than 500kg DL. Nobody has even come close to that number yet both Thor + Hall can deadlift 500kg DL. If Lasha focused purely on powerlifting, he could probably also do it, he has the frame.

If he truly is the strongest man alive today he will have to prove it. In Strongman. It's hard to tell with oly lifting because oly lifting it's kind of like a trick. It requires sooo much technique that it's a bad way to demonstrate pure strength

@@emZee1994 I was just speaking to your technique argument. If you have ever used a squat or deadlift suit (including briefs) then you'll know that they require alot of technique to find the groove. The technique required in olympic lifting relies on the individual lifter. While in strongman they rely heavily on supportive equiptment (e.g., knee sleeves, knee wraps, elbow sleeves, straps, etc). Obvipusly both are immensely strong. It would be interesting to see what happens if he ever chooses to crossover sports.

and how is Strongman better test? They do bunch of different movements where sometimes speed is more important than pure strength, Like in Atlas stones everyone lifts the objects but it's about being fastest, not pushing themselves to actual limits, just being fast and technical

@@richardzanguri8908 because strongman is the best sport we have today to test general strength. They only thing I wished they would change is reduce the amount of supportive equipment as much as possible
