And this is why TCGs should not be considered investments, but great for players looking to get their hands on specific cards.

This is typical for pre-release/on-release prices and after-release prices for most card games. First Chapter was mostly scalpers trying to turn a profit, not actual players and collectors trying to get theiir hobby on.

Ravensberger has told us from the start that they will make sure singles are cheap and will reprint to force them lower if need be. If you are wanting to make money in this game it will be in the promos and the rewards cards.

I really like the fact that cards are tanking. I feel like it is good for the game. Most people right now who want to get these cards are using them to build decks and compete. I feel like collectors are the small minority and the company shouldn't cater to them. This is after all a game. They are investing in bigger tournments and it is good to see product availability as well as cheaper cards. People can start to build more competitive decks and will make for better tournaments around the world. Thanks for making this video and showing everyone this and brining awareness to this topic. Hopefully it grows the game more.

Yes, this is a game, but they also slotted enchanted rares in their game. It is a trading card game, and the market for these cards tends to lead to a balancing of the game at the local level. People who are serious and want to try to go for higher end prizes will shell out the $45 for Beast - Tragic Hero, others who are more casually invested in the game may try other strategies that don't require some of these expensive cards. The collector's market is something that a lot of people are interested in, especially given the prices on the enchanted cards going up over time after the lower prices during Christmas. The Stitch Enchanted promo for the competitive tournaments coming in a couple months just re-emphasize that they want these cards to be special and for people to desire them. Without that, there is no goal - after all, why make it a TCG instead of a boardgame if they wanted it to just be a game and not a collector's hobby as well?
The appeal for TCGs is that there is monetary value tied with the game pieces. If you want to sell out at some point, or need to for whatever reason, you can because the cards would hold their value and you would essentially be playing the game for free. Packs are always $6, but the prices of the singles can help offset that cost.

Edit: Not "for free" necessarily, but the singles having little to no resale value really kills the interest in a lot of people to actually open the boxes that the cards come in.

I do see there being some good comparisons, a lot of the cards that were considered really good at the beginning of the set have went down in favor of some other cards - but I think these values have just shifted from these cards to some others as the meta has developed over time.
    - Mufasa is $20+ now and was less than $10 at the start of the set
    - Beast, Tragic Hero has maintained, and even risen slowly over time from being around $40 at the beginning to around $45-46 now
    - Madam Mim Fox has even held its price fairly well, considering it's a starter deck card and also started off around $5-ish, maintaining $4 price point now is pretty solid - even bouncing back from the initial drop from release at $2.46 to a decent price is notable.
Aside from these, I do agree - especially looking at Prince John, Sleepy's Flute, and Teeth and Ambitions coming down from their highs. Though, this I could definitely see being a meta-defining market, as the cards tend to fluctuate as new strategies come into play. Mufasa, especially, being a key card that people are interested in running on the ladder in pixelborn as well as in-person tournaments have been catalysts for the price movement.
Overall, I think without some of these other examples of chapter 2 cards, people can misconstrue some of these points as cherry-picked; but you can certainly clearly see that the stabilization of prices is happening with cards that are synergizing with the Chapter 1 cards. (Mufasa, pairing with Maleficent Dragon, for example).
I think one card that is criminally underrated is Lady Tremaine. She is a powerhouse of a card, and is certainly one that I would keep my eye on for the value to float up if a more control-oriented meta is how things turn out with set 3 (which could undermine everything here anyway).
Overall good video, but I think there should be more focus on some of the chapter 2 singles that have actually stabilized - I also think looking at the encahnted cards as a whole is important (Arthur is currently back up to around $150+ on TCGPlayer right now, aside from one unverified seller with no feedback).

So you're pointing out what happens with ALL card games when a new set launches? This is beyond normal. If you want cards day one, then buy a box and hope to get good pulls. Otherwise, wait for the market to stabilize and then buy singles.

This is because this games prices were not because of the popularity of the game or how necessary some cards were. It was the scarcity, and once that goes away so do the prices

This is pretty common in games a lot of cards a lot 50% is reqlly not a lot considering cards are always way ovwr priced at release bexuase super competive players need the cards right away and as more supply hits cards go down.

Glad the prices are dropping. Shouldn't cost $700-1000 to get into a game that came out in the last year. Feel sorry for the people that paid over $300 a box when stock was low but these things happen. Plus it's not just lorcana. All ccg prices seem to be dropping. Lockdowns created a bubble in collectibles and I think this is mostly just a correction.

    • @tylerisdrawing9913
      @tylerisdrawing9913 7 месяцев назад

One good look at TCGplayer shows that the enchanted rares have been spiking lately, pretty much across the board. The $300-$400/box price was due to extreme product scarcity during their initial release window and don't really reflect the lockdown collectible bubble imo. People got into tcgs during lockdown, some have abandoned it due to them not actually being interested in the cards and just wanted to make a quick buck. Others have stuck around and moved onto other card games, such as One Piece or Lorcana because these games catered more to their wants than games like Magic or Pokemon perhaps.

    • @LorcanaAcademy

Because this video is about the prices of floodborn cards settling low 4 weeks after release. It is kinda the topic of the video.

My friend will tell me when a car decreases. It means the game is not fun or it’s not gonna continue because cards are dropping. It’s a big magic fan. And told me the car games come and go magic will be there forever. Lorcana will be gone soon. Plus he’s not a big fan. lol
So do you think when cards decrease it’s because there’s too many out there or do you think no one’s playing the game? I’m gonna rewatch your video to see if you actually answered that question because my roommates are being very loud and I can’t hear your video too well lol but I am enjoying it

    • @kylerocco7467

Game has a lot of hype around it still this is pretty common for tcgs for prices to drop hard after the set comes out. Prerelease prices and release prices never hold unless a card, also pricing is pretty common compared to most old magic sets back in the day before collectors packs came out, not counting extremely rare studd that is one per case. Most sets had a super chase 30+$ card and one that was a little worse and a bunch of cards un the 5-10$ range. Honestly compared to flesh ans blood which is the last tcg which IMO has survived I think its doing great.
A lot of tcgs will make it if they can survive the first downturn and people still talk about and play it. Most tcgs do die or becoming walking dead where they exist bur no one plays them or cares like fow and buddyfiggt

They are all still half the price of release for chapter 2. Also enchanted cards are really a collectors items, and not the point of the video at all.
