They need help. Not to “get over themselves”. I have had anxiety attacks and they are so swift and terrifying. There is no way for someone who hasn’t had them to understand. But to be dismissed with that kind of remark can actually increase the suffering of someone having this kind of episode. I can’t imagine how bad her attack must have been for her to go to that extreme just to try and escape her feelings at the time. I hope she gets the help she obviously needs. Grateful I did.

@pbjsilverstudio4882 if you are having a medical emergency on an airplane, you can seek assistance if you "need help." You don't just open doors and potentially risk the health and safety of everyone else. This is EXACTLY what I mean by getting over yourself. The world doesn't revolve around any individual person. Lot's of people suffer with anxiety or other mental struggles. Unless you are having a psychotic episode and have lost all sense of reality, you can probably alert someone.

@@diphsehdoodahl1325 reread her comment. She never once justified this behavior. She called out your misguided response that people who struggle with mental health issues need to just "get over themselves" by saying no, actually they need HELP. Telling someone with panic attacks or schizophrenia they need to just get over themselves is like telling someone having a heart attack they just need to suck it up and walk it off. Mental illness isn't some lack of willpower or discipline, if these people were capable of controlling it they wouldn't have the problem to begin with. The answer is a healthcare system that actually covers and prioritizes mental health treatment instead of refusing to cover it or adding obscene deductibles, and more widespread understanding of mental health and mental illness and less stigma among the public, not telling people who have been denied care by a for profit healthcare industry to just get over it and then throwing them in jail when the inevitably have a mental breakdown.

I work with prisoners, and I promise you, you have absolutely zero understanding of how awful prison is if you think this deserves 5 years down. A good couple months in JAIL (not prison) would be plenty if found mentally stable (which all you have to do is say who the president is for them to determine that, so there’s TONS of schizophrenics in prison who absolutely shouldn’t be there). Anyway, prison is NOTHING like what you see on TV. I actually won a writing award for describing Day 1 in prison, and everyone who read it said they had no idea how badly humans are treated in there and how easily it is to go insane. Men and women are beaten, subjected to gråpe, and live in nonstop loudness (screaming and banging even through the night, every night). I suggest you read some books by prisoners or watch some documentaries before you wish to condemn a non violent person to a life of torture and sIavery.

A little academic understanding that people aren't BORN with severe anxiety would be useful here. It develops over time, until you recognize you have a problem, hopefully seek help (and don't self medicate).
She's probably very embarrassed and is glad they took her for evaluation. She'll probably be released to parents/DH/BF/relative. So much better than arresting her which would just make the entire situation worse. "After Alaska Airlines flight 323 from Milwaukee to Seattle landed at SEA on Sunday, the Boeing 737-900 jet docked at gate N9.
As passengers exited the plane, a woman who was still on board became anxious and opened the emergency exit and climbed onto the wing, according to SEA Media Relations Manager Perry Cooper.
Cooper said the Port of Seattle Fire responded just after 5 p.m. and helped the woman off the wing and on a ramp to the ground. Flight data shows the plane arrived at 4:48 p.m.
In the video, the woman is seen opening the emergency exit on the side of the plane before walking onto the wing. It appears the woman attempts to drop to the ground, but instead sits on the wing of the plane and begins to wave at workers outside. A 737-900 wingtip is about 12 feet off the ground, although the distance from the wing to the ground is closer to eight feet nearer to the fuselage.
The passenger was eventually sent to the hospital for evaluation under the direction of the Port of Seattle crisis team."

To understand why the fire dept got there first over the police, you need to understand the airport layout at Seatac which is similar to most larger airports. The fire station is physically located on the airport ramp. They are there and standing by for an emergency for whenever it happens on the ramp. The port of Seattle police are usually not on the ramp as it is a secured area. They are spread around the public airport area usually at the terminal. When they get a call, they have to travel all the way out to the cargo area which is where the ramp access gates are (far north end of the runway) and then once on the ramp, they have to travel all the way back to the terminal gate.

Props to the air stewardess who went out onto the wing in her heels and skirt, to try and talk to the woman and pass her that coat or whatever it was. You can tell it was or had been raining with the water and reflections on the ground, so add the cold at this time of year it was probably quite slippery. She did exactly the right thing crouching down against the fuselage and holding onto the door frame.
The guy emptying the on board lavs made me chuckle. He pulled up wondering what in the cray cray was going on here, but didn’t let it stop him connecting his pipe and doing his thing while he watched the free drama.
I hope that idiot got a nice nose full of the smell of previous passengers’ lav offerings!
Clearly there were stairs, because her friend or family member used them to go down to her on. Pushing open the emergency door is completely irrational, dramatic, entitled, selfish and attention seeking. I don’t care what a persons problems are. You still have the capacity to make the right choice. She could have just gotten off if she wanted to. Instead of inconveniencing everyone else, others putting themselves in danger for her, holding up airport operations, holding up an aircraft which will now need to be re-inspected outside, assuming there’s no damage to the emergency exit door….. it messes up flight clearances and logistics for the ground ATC, potentially takes a flight crew ‘over the clock’ meaning they can’t fly and now everyone has to wait for the crew to be replaced… not to mention upsetting other passengers. I’ve got Anxiety, OCD and PTSD but I’d never do that. I’ve had complete and sudden breakdowns and still had the awareness to think of others. That’s just selfish entitlement.

    • @DoucheMasterGeneral
      @DoucheMasterGeneral 16 дней назад

Maybe the ones who think like you are the selfish and entitled ones. You should not be quick to judge and condemn others. This woman could have been in a psychotic/delusional/dissociative/delirious state. This can happen to anyone, but it's most likely to happen with someone mental disorders like Schizophrenia, Dissociative Disorders and physical conditions like Epilepsy/Neurological conditions. People in these mental states cannot make logical decisions because they are not in touch with reality. It has nothing to do with being selfish or entitled. If they're not in the same reality as everyone else, are having false beliefs or distortions of reality, they can do irrational things. Air travel and travel in general can be stressful, and is often a trigger in these events. Travel can triggers anxiety and insomnia the lack of sleep, which can trigger psychotic breaks in some people, even medication withdrawal, which sometimes happens during travel can trigger a psychotic or delirious state. Just because you assume you are logical now, doesn't mean that you will always be logical. This can happen to anyone under the right conditions. There is a reason why people can be found not guilty by reason of insanity.

Later, I can see the individual sitting & leaning up against the fuselage while on the phone. Seems the individual could have easily walked back into the plane unless they had a mental disorder. But I did see someone poke their head out the door and speak to the individual before returning to the interior of the plane. The strange things that happens at airports.

A mental disorder? Why does it have to be a disorder? How about a mental or other crisis? Because what it looked like was someone in a state of mental or other crisis. If she did in fact adorn a reflective vest ahead of time, it would mean that she planned to do it, knowing she would want to be visible out there and blend in. The pilots are locked in the cockpit until all the passengers de-plane and the flight attendants are either at the door helping passengers leave or in the galleys prepping for the next leg. As for the cops, that was embarrassingly slow unless the ground crew were slow to call it in.

The flight crew is busy doing flight crew stuff. The ground crew is busy doing ground stuff. The police are not typically the first to arrive at any airplane from outside the terminal at any major airport, the fire department is. And because it's very, very common for fire departments to have an entire medical crew that's trained to handle people in crisis, they're the best to be the first ones to arrive at a situation like this and even a car wreck. It's even really common for the fire department's medical team to show up to a house before any other EMS arrives...or at a car wreck.
This is not actually all that insane. A person who clearly had something going on that you and I don't know anything about opened a door and walked out onto a wing at an airport, and then she was taken to the hospital for an evaluation. Not everything like this is some criminal or insane act that needs some sort of punishment or something. My gosh.

An interesting snapshot of social attitudes, in the comments. Almost everyone assumes she's either drunk or high. Nobody's first thought was mental health....Which was the issue here btw.

Yeah. Humans basically suck. I commented above. These commenters are being as irrational as the lady on the planet wing. But they don't even see that in themselves.

Exactly! Thank you! Everyone is worried about themselves, their connections, their bags. I'm a flight attendant and we had a serious medical situation was ended up on the floor in the forward galley and a passenger asked if they were going to be delayed getting off the plane. I just looked at him and chuckled and said, "Unbelievable!" And walked away.

My 1st thought was either she's on something she shouldn't be taking, she's not taking something she should be taking or she mixed alcohol with drugs. Seen enough of these crazy behaviors on RUclips to assume one of many possibilities.

I knew right away she was having serious anxiety and mental health issues, especially the way she came flying out of that Emergency exit.

As long as it took the FD to arrive, good thing it wasn't a real emergency.
