When I was a fireman I was always asked to sit on the exit isle once they saw my Dept.'s Shirt. I guess somehow a person crazy enough to run into a building on fire is an upgrade to the general public.
To understand why the fire dept got there first over the police, you need to understand the airport layout at Seatac which is similar to most larger airports. The fire station is physically located on the airport ramp. They are there and standing by for an emergency for whenever it happens on the ramp. The port of Seattle police are usually not on the ramp as it is a secured area. They are spread around the public airport area usually at the terminal. When they get a call, they have to travel all the way out to the cargo area which is where the ramp access gates are (far north end of the runway) and then once on the ramp, they have to travel all the way back to the terminal gate.

Imagine what that stunt cost due to the emergency crew summoned and I’m sure they would have had to check the wing for safety, I hope they send her a bill for it all. Society has become all about me these days, no regard for anyone else.
@@GBelly-tf9sqyes, we do. BUT that said, not always from an airline. What could have happened should this have occurred mid-flight hundreds or thousands of feet in the air? That pales in comparison to wanting their burger "their way".

Props to the air stewardess who went out onto the wing in her heels and skirt, to try and talk to the woman and pass her that coat or whatever it was. You can tell it was or had been raining with the water and reflections on the ground, so add the cold at this time of year it was probably quite slippery. She did exactly the right thing crouching down against the fuselage and holding onto the door frame. The guy emptying the on board lavs made me chuckle. He pulled up wondering what in the cray cray was going on here, but didn’t let it stop him connecting his pipe and doing his thing while he watched the free drama. I hope that idiot got a nice nose full of the smell of previous passengers’ lav offerings! Clearly there were stairs, because her friend or family member used them to go down to her on. Pushing open the emergency door is completely irrational, dramatic, entitled, selfish and attention seeking. I don’t care what a persons problems are. You still have the capacity to make the right choice. She could have just gotten off if she wanted to. Instead of inconveniencing everyone else, others putting themselves in danger for her, holding up airport operations, holding up an aircraft which will now need to be re-inspected outside, assuming there’s no damage to the emergency exit door….. it messes up flight clearances and logistics for the ground ATC, potentially takes a flight crew ‘over the clock’ meaning they can’t fly and now everyone has to wait for the crew to be replaced… not to mention upsetting other passengers. I’ve got Anxiety, OCD and PTSD but I’d never do that. I’ve had complete and sudden breakdowns and still had the awareness to think of others. That’s just selfish entitlement.
Maybe the ones who think like you are the selfish and entitled ones. You should not be quick to judge and condemn others. This woman could have been in a psychotic/delusional/dissociative/delirious state. This can happen to anyone, but it's most likely to happen with someone mental disorders like Schizophrenia, Dissociative Disorders and physical conditions like Epilepsy/Neurological conditions. People in these mental states cannot make logical decisions because they are not in touch with reality. It has nothing to do with being selfish or entitled. If they're not in the same reality as everyone else, are having false beliefs or distortions of reality, they can do irrational things. Air travel and travel in general can be stressful, and is often a trigger in these events. Travel can triggers anxiety and insomnia the lack of sleep, which can trigger psychotic breaks in some people, even medication withdrawal, which sometimes happens during travel can trigger a psychotic or delirious state. Just because you assume you are logical now, doesn't mean that you will always be logical. This can happen to anyone under the right conditions. There is a reason why people can be found not guilty by reason of insanity.
It also now puts the aircraft out of service, that door has to be sealed and checked again before it can be returned to service, not as simple as just closing it again.

Later, I can see the individual sitting & leaning up against the fuselage while on the phone. Seems the individual could have easily walked back into the plane unless they had a mental disorder. But I did see someone poke their head out the door and speak to the individual before returning to the interior of the plane. The strange things that happens at airports.
A mental disorder? Why does it have to be a disorder? How about a mental or other crisis? Because what it looked like was someone in a state of mental or other crisis. If she did in fact adorn a reflective vest ahead of time, it would mean that she planned to do it, knowing she would want to be visible out there and blend in. @@18_rabbitYour question seems like the more simple one. The emergency exit has to be accessible to all. Otherwise, it’s not an emergency exit. Immediately using force instead of patience isn’t always the best strategy. Talking people down takes more time but leads to fewer injuries for everyone involved and less damage to property.
In the irregularity report, this passenger as the "Wing Baby Attachment" Just secure the wing exit door and start the engines. It's a big jump to the pavement. This person should now be permanently on the no-fly list. Being this stupid has to have consequences. Maybe in mid flight they thought the exit door was the restroom??!!! That could be disastrous. They should carry their sign.
@@JaneTannerevansYou don't sound very empathetic, and seem capable of distorting your mental picture. Engines are off. The aircraft is fine. they are designed to be stepped on, right there. I remember on a long flight, there was a moment between when the engines were off, and the air wasn't on yet, there was a moment of what felt like humidity increase, and I felt suffocated, it was an odd feeling. It was better when the air came on from the ground power units.
Well, we have more awareness, less stigma, every second person has a therapist, counsellor, or life coach. I can’t help but wonder whether, in talking about it SO much, we’ve MADE ten times more people think there’s something wrong with them instead of just accepting themselves as quirky. Although I admit this example is not just “quirky”. We might need to go back to some focus on teaching people how to accept themselves, cope with uncomfortable feelings, and just to be more resilient.
I remember reading or seeing a short of someone claiming she was left on a plane. She was asleep and when she woke up, it was cold and sealed up. Also it was mentioned, whoever that was supposed to do a final walk through failed to notice her too. It happens on busses, commutter and school. Happen to wonder if this was the case.
Usually, I’m pretty unsympathetic to people who caused disruptions on aircraft, but I think in this case, maybe there can be some reason for understanding. I’m pretty sure she had a panic attack and if you’ve ever had one of those, it can be pretty overwhelming. Having said that, do not worry about them opening it up in flight once the aircraft gets airborne those exits are locked shut. 10 people couldn’t force it open if they try.
My personal & private thoughts on this particular flight incident are; *(No.1)* - “There were no physical injuries more importantly no-loss of life or irreparable damage to anyone persons or the equipment’s infrastructure from this incident.” *(No2)* - At least _this_ [ON-TIME] *Boeing* aircraft’s Emergency Exit-Door was properly installed & more importantly that the door was opened while the plane was already on the ground at the proper assigned arrival terminal gate. And thats _ALL_ I’m gonna say to that!
The pilots are locked in the cockpit until all the passengers de-plane and the flight attendants are either at the door helping passengers leave or in the galleys prepping for the next leg. As for the cops, that was embarrassingly slow unless the ground crew were slow to call it in.
The flight crew is busy doing flight crew stuff. The ground crew is busy doing ground stuff. The police are not typically the first to arrive at any airplane from outside the terminal at any major airport, the fire department is. And because it's very, very common for fire departments to have an entire medical crew that's trained to handle people in crisis, they're the best to be the first ones to arrive at a situation like this and even a car wreck. It's even really common for the fire department's medical team to show up to a house before any other EMS arrives...or at a car wreck. This is not actually all that insane. A person who clearly had something going on that you and I don't know anything about opened a door and walked out onto a wing at an airport, and then she was taken to the hospital for an evaluation. Not everything like this is some criminal or insane act that needs some sort of punishment or something. My gosh.
An interesting snapshot of social attitudes, in the comments. Almost everyone assumes she's either drunk or high. Nobody's first thought was mental health....Which was the issue here btw.
Yeah. Humans basically suck. I commented above. These commenters are being as irrational as the lady on the planet wing. But they don't even see that in themselves.
Exactly! Thank you! Everyone is worried about themselves, their connections, their bags. I'm a flight attendant and we had a serious medical situation was ended up on the floor in the forward galley and a passenger asked if they were going to be delayed getting off the plane. I just looked at him and chuckled and said, "Unbelievable!" And walked away.
My 1st thought was either she's on something she shouldn't be taking, she's not taking something she should be taking or she mixed alcohol with drugs. Seen enough of these crazy behaviors on RUclips to assume one of many possibilities.

It is not your right or privilege to open the emergency door on an aircraft.
@aoiaaon Bingo! That's the problem here; the lack of understanding that just because you have a level of discomfort, it does not entitle you to break laws to allow you instant relief from your discomfort.
@@bobzilla5472what if they were trying to get away from someone? It's possible, yes?
That person should never be allowed to board a flight again for the next 30 years for attempting to exit the plane via the emergency exit.
Every circumstance is different. She was taken to a hospital, so clearly she was having some type of emotional issue and sometimes, a human being will do irrational things when they're in an emotional crisis, like exiting a plane at the gate and trying to leave via the wing. How do you know she wasn't being made to take that flight against her will, and she thought this would be her only way out? Let's not jump to judgment.
We have got to stop making excuses for people that do this. I have very bad anxiety myself and I don't care if someone is having a panic attack, they can not just decide to open the aircraft exit without severe repercussions.

You seem to speak too much sense for this crowd. 😏
All airports are required by TSA and FAA regulations to have regular AOA patrols and rapid response capabilities.
@@None-ef6nfThey have roving patrols. It is a large airport, and they can still be a distance away. Driving in an active airport can take time.

The plane already had landed according to the news report. She wigged out cuz people weren't getting off fast enough or some shiit and used the wing exit
I heard on the news of a stowaway getting caught trying to get a free flight a few days ago! The bad thing is that this plane will have to be serviced for that emergency hatch being opened, its not like a regular aircraft door that you can just close it and lock it, one or two aircraft mechanics will have to be called to inspect it and reinstall it. 30 years on various aircraft including Boeing aircraft (retired).
Imagine what that stunt cost due to the emergency crew summoned and I’m sure they would have had to check the wing for safety, I hope they send her a bill for it all. Society has become all about me these days, no regard for anyone else.
Flight Attendants put up with people like this , or worse, on a daily basis....
So does everyone else in a service industry.

I agree with you, BUT this person is obviously not mentally competant !
It also now puts the aircraft out of service, that door has to be sealed and checked again before it can be returned to service, not as simple as just closing it again.
@ChantePierce-kp3uf that's the problem, if they are this mentally unwell they should be in an institution, not roaming free. Can't have it both ways.

I thought it was a ground crew member that opened the door and walked out onto the wing, the individual appears to be wearing the same fluorescent striped vest as the other ground crew members.
Although I admit this example is not just “quirky”. We might need to go back to some focus on teaching people how to accept themselves, cope with uncomfortable feelings, and just to be more resilient.

They were waiting one hour to disembark, she had a panic attack. Who knows?
I remember reading or seeing a short of someone claiming she was left on a plane. She was asleep and when she woke up, it was cold and sealed up. Also it was mentioned, whoever that was supposed to do a final walk through failed to notice her too. It happens on busses, commutter and school. Happen to wonder if this was the case.
Why does it take so long for police to show up?😂😂 Need a better security system😂😂
My personal & private thoughts on this particular flight incident are;
*(No.1)* - “There were no physical injuries more importantly no-loss of life or irreparable damage to anyone persons or the equipment’s infrastructure from this incident.” *(No2)* - At least _this_ [ON-TIME] *Boeing* aircraft’s Emergency Exit-Door was properly installed & more importantly that the door was opened while the plane was already on the ground at the proper assigned arrival terminal gate.
And thats _ALL_ I’m gonna say to that!
How... does this even happen?!

Mental health test question for 5-year-old: What is the wing of a plane for? A: help the plane fly and land safely. B: for sitting on.
Absolutely insane! Where is the flight crew not to mention police and ground authorities?
The pilots are locked in the cockpit until all the passengers de-plane and the flight attendants are either at the door helping passengers leave or in the galleys prepping for the next leg. As for the cops, that was embarrassingly slow unless the ground crew were slow to call it in.
I'm so glad we have the perfect humans like you amongst us. What would we do without you?
My gosh.
