    Ok so Parasite follows the Kim family who end up infiltrating a wealthy elite family under the guise of being something they're not. They very much have a parasitic relationship with them and this is hinted at early on in the movie when we're first introduced to them.
    Living in a basement home we catch them in despair as they realise that the person who's wifi they'd been piggybacking off of had now put a password on it. However they manage to pick up a signal in the bathroom which means they can use the free wifi from a copy shop down the road. They're very much parasites of that wifi connection but the similarities to a lowly life form don't stop there.
    We catch them folding pizza boxes and they're very much in a symbiotic relationship with a fast food company who require lots of hands in order to do this but they don't have the money to take on full time members of staff. The Kims don't do the job probably and a quarter of the boxes are unusable but the pizza company have no other option which the Kim's somewhat play upon.
    Not long after we watch workers spraying pesticide in the street and this is commonly used to kill bugs and parasites. It blows into their basement home and this basement home of course foreshadows some of the reveals that we get in the movie.
    After realising their phones have been cut off Chung-Sook asks her husband Ki-taek what his plan is but we never really get an answer. Later on in the film Ki-taek reveals that it's better to not have a plan as plans always go wrong and if you don't have one then nothing bad can happen.
    This some what juxtaposes the end of the film in which the son Ki-Woo says that he's making a plan to go to university, become successful and then buy the house so that his father can finally come out of the basement.
    I've seen a lot of back and forth over the film, namely whether this ending is something that happens and we'll discuss why it's pretty bad news for the family later on in the video.
    Now with the success of Squid Game I thought I'd revisit some Korean classics that really show why the country is currently leading the way when it comes to TV shows and Movies. They just seem to be adept at creating outstanding original stories that are layered with social commentary and Parasite is no different.
    The oscar winning film is layered with hidden details, things you missed and a lot of clues that hint towards the eventual reveals that I wanna breakdown in this video.

    The thing is that all members of the family have the qualifications and skills for those jobs but they don't have a "diploma", "status" to actually access those jobs because that's all people care about, they only care about papers and "connections". Even having a diploma or certification is not enough, they still need the "connection recommendation".

    In the beginning of the movie, the mom comically said "you should have brought food" when they received the stone from son's friend. This draws parallel to when Jessica could have brought food to the man in the basement but instead the son brought the stone, cause the following murders.

    One big detail I caught was that when the rich mother and poor father drive home from the grocery store, the father overheard the mother say that the rain (the same rain that flooded and destroyed the Kim’s family’s home) was a blessing because it cleared the grass or something of that sort. An eye-opening thing in regards to people of the higher class becoming blind to the harsh realities the lower class face.

    On an upbeat note, Id like to think that the reason the rock doesn't float at the end is because, unlike previous hollow promises, symbolised by the rock which floated, the promise that he makes to buy the house is truly meant and that is why the rock is real in that scene

    I believe the mother playing the current housekeeper who kicks the other down the stairs is a reminder that hierarchy is human nature and those at the bottom who climb up the social ladder are often just as likely to maintain their status by treating the others badly, keeping them from rising.

    • @adkakociskova6327
      @adkakociskova6327 10 дней назад

      i believe quite the opposite - as this is a very obviously anti-capitalist film and it implies that the system puts people (even members of the same working class who would otherwise be friends, as she said that she was nice) against eachother. So not really natural, but this is how they were made to have no choice and see who is the "strongest" to survive- literally

      How so would you say? I'm familiar with Kafka's Metamorphosis but I don't really see any large parallels between the plots because Metamorphosis only focuses on the Samsa family without much interaction with outsiders (aside from Gregor's general manager and the subtenants)? I also feel like they have very different messages and interpretations, so I would be interested in your opinion

    • @MuscleBound_withDre
      @MuscleBound_withDre Год назад +1

      @@leparraindufromage366 if you view both works of art through the lens of end-stage-capitalism where protagonist/main family have to turn into disgusting creatures to keep up with capitalism and it’s requirements.
      Metamorphosis - family use the main character as a piggy bank and then when they have no use for him they literally kill him and move on to the younger daughter/sister as a new parasitic relationship through which to live
      Parasite (literally a parallel to Metamorphosis) - the whole family uses the elite family like parasites disposing problems as they arise because within their capitalistic structure they’d rather Leech off of “hard work” than do any of it themselves.

    I love how this movie explored a different side of an overused topic (rich vs poor). We've seen so many films that cover the black & white, such as the evil corrupted rich taking advantage of the poor. While that's a sad truth, it's only a portion of the real power dynamic in our society. We often overlook how the poor is always fighting with each other when they could be pulling their heads together and help each other. We see so many examples through everyday crime news (all the hate crimes, neighborhood crimes, small business/convenience store robbery).
    The reality is, most middle-elite class in modern society are just minding their own business. Sure, there's a portion of rich people who are truly evil. But really, the rest of them simply don't give a shit about what's going down in the lower class community. Their main interest is on which company they should invest on next. That means they also have no business in directly harming the poor. At the same time, they casually look down on the poor people living in the same city while also casually donating money to Unicef.

More importantly though I was filled with rage and sadness because it depicts the the harshness of humans towards each other. I do feel that change is upon us as we see our current world turning upside. Unfortunately, chaos is part and parcel of change. The coming years will be challenging but we need these changes even more now.

    I'd say why there is no definitive bad guy in this movie is that at times we all are bad. We all can be parasites. We all are parasites. On each other. On the world. On each other's WIFI.
    Also the toilet up a stairway kind of means shit flows downhill. It flows downhill no matter the class. We all shit on those "lower" than us. Imo.

    This movie was absolutely amazing! Loved to learn more about some small details I missed, like the number of chairs changing.
    One thing that really struck me are the themes of togetherness and being apart in the movie. The poor family is almost always together. In their small home, going out to eat together, getting a job together and even when the Parks are away and they are in their house you see them coming together again. Meanwhile the Parks mostly seem to live very seperate lives. They are hardly in the same room as each other and that only seems to change once they employ the poor family.
    You also see it all fall apart for the poor family when they all split up during the birthday party and final scenes. They are all physically and mentally in different places. The father seems to have made up his mind that he will kill the people in the basement. Meanwhile the mother who actually killed the women by kicking down the stairs thinks everyone was overreacting and maybe they can talk it all out today.

    In order to truly appreciate Korean or other Asian films, one has to be detailed oriented and know how to read backgrounds.
    Nice catch especially the money part where rich mom takes out few cash before handing it to the dude and acted like she put more for him than his friend Min for sake of “inflation”

    I might be the only one on this but I feel bad for the MC. Yes it was like a parasite that he got the job. However, I believe that he is a victim of his surroundings. He’s just trying to do what’s best for his family. Is is wrong for what he did 100% yes, but I feel like he is actually a good person who wants to do the right thing. That’s kinda what I got from it. I might be the only one on this.

    Da-song fell in love with native american culture frfr, its funny because he was the first person to be accused of being a liar but slick was the only one who wasn't. ram don wasn't his favorite evident because he had zero interest in it. Ms park told the housekeeper to make ramen because she wanted it, but didn't want her husband to think she's a fat girl 😂

    The question left unanswered though is when they all went into the basement and first discovered the lady’s husband, why was her face cut and beaten up? Was it because it was hard to cut the security cameras or did something else happen? I’m deeply confused about that part.

    I saw the film as the the origin story for Joaquin Phoenix’s head injury in the joker. The sons story could be the prequel to the Joker…gets whacked in the head & starts laughing at inappropriate things, goes crazy.
