    Terry, thank you for the clearly explained instructions. I got my older atomic clock reset with ease, after viewing your instructions. Lost my instructions years ago, and messed around with resetting this clock for the past couple of days. Got it reset and running correct time in apprx. 15 minutes. Thanks again!

    This video was exactly what I needed to reset my Sharp Atomic clock. All the buttons are the same. For years, the clock would keep time and reset to Daylight Savings, but the second hand was frozen. This did the trick.

    If I’d only known about this YT video.
    Last week my clock started spinning crazy and stopped at 4:00. The next morning (I’m on the East coast) it was displaying the correct PST. I want EDT.
    Before I found this video I removed the battery. But, according to this video, I should have simply pressed the ET button until the hands started moving. After watching the video I removed the battery, waited 15 minutes, pressed the reset button 20 times and loaded a fresh battery. The clock started up for 15 seconds then paused for a few minutes and then advanced to the 8:00 position where it will wait until it gets a radio signal from WWVB.
    I bought this clock more than 10 years ago from Fry’s. My clock has a nice minimalist face (no numbers) but is no longer in the LaCrosse catalog. This is the old mechanism as shown in this video. Newer mechanisms have a slider switch to set the time zone instead of four buttons and a switch instead of a button to disable daylight time.
    Recently I bought a newer Lacrosse analog clock for my office which supposedly decides the enhanced WWVB time signal (able to read a weaker signal). I ‘d like to upgrade the mechanism in the old clock if it will fit in the same form factor.

      Hey Eric, we are thrilled you have enjoyed our wall clocks for such a long time and appreciate the comment. For a better understanding of our clock movements, our updated video here: bit.ly/wallclock_setup could also be helpful. As for replacing a radio controlled clock's movement, unfortunately, this is not something we'd do as the calibration process with its hands is performed at the factory level. In these instances, we'd recommend updating the older model as well. In addition to Arizona and parts of Indiana, the province of Saskatchewan, where I live, stays on Central Standard Time all year round and does not observe D.S.T. On most days, the clocks set themselves within 5 minutes, depending on time of day and weather condition. Also I have used AA lithium batteries in these clocks with no after effects, getting close to 2 years from them, simply because they last longer.

    Jan 13, 2017 - I just purchased a used SHARP WWVB radio control clock. Luckily, the movt you featured in your video matched perfectly my wall clock with hands. It's running GREAT right now. Only a comment and a question... I wish the "No DST" button was better labeled. Or showed an LED or a "BEEP!" sound showing it's enabled. It's a bit of a guessing game. Q: There is a small black hole left hand side of the movt with two wires or leads I can see. Do you know what that hole is? Is that the WWVB antenna? Take care, ~ Dave in Rochester NY

    • @gammondog

      That might be a reset contact. If the controls don't work or the clock gets wonky you can take the battery out and close the circuit by placing the blade of a metal screwdriver or a paperclip across the prongs to ground out any residual power and restore the clock to its original setting.

    We have 3 of these in MA that one of my clients bought. They have never worked (they are made by a different vendor, made in China, called Chouchin). Each of them was left on with new batteries for 2 weeks and the time was never correct, so they were set manually, like a 5 dollar clock from Walmart. One does have to wonder why it needs to take 3 to 5 days to set a clock.

    • @lacrossetechnology
      @lacrossetechnology  6 лет назад +1

      Hi Jim, we are truly sorry your clocks were unable to pick up the WWVB radio signal from Fort Collins, CO. right away. The reason it can sometimes take 3-5 nights (or possibly longer) is due to your location, both geographically and where you have the clocks placed within your home. Moving these away from other electronics and near a window with the front or back of the clock facing Fort Collins will greatly increase your chances of receiving this signal. For more information please visit our website here: www.lacrossetechnology.com/atomic-time/ and use the NIST and Smithsonian links to learn about how exactly these work.
      If you believe these are defective, feel free to contact our support team here: www.lacrossetechnology.com/support/index/form/ to work out a possible replacement.
      Sorry again for the inconvenience.

      If you own a clock with a movement like the one in this video, it cannot be set to Hawaiian time for atomic connection. However, it can be set manually following the instructions covered in our updated video here: bit.ly/wallclock_setup -- But we should note that if the clock does receive the WWVB signal, it will automatically set to Pacific Time as shown in this video. Guys I figure out the technology behinds this.
    It basically sends a signal which is picked up by a boy with a white horse.
    The boy will then ride to the La Crosse "Technology" headquarter and ask for the time and then ride back.
    This approximately takes 3-5 days depending on where you live.

    • @lacrossetechnology
      @lacrossetechnology  6 лет назад

      An interesting explanation to be sure, however, our clocks are actually radio controlled by the WWVB signal broadcasted from Fort Collins, CO. You can find more information about the signal here: www.nist.gov/pml/time-and-frequency-division/radio-stations/wwvb As this is a radio signal, the time it takes for your clock to receive it truly does depend on where you live and where you have the clock set up. Moving it away from other electronics, near a window, with the front or back of it facing Fort Collins, CO can help improve your chances.

  • @darrellbobyk6363
    @darrellbobyk6363 5 лет назад

    All of my clocks are radio controlled. Since I live in east central Saskatchewan, when conditions are perfect, it usually takes 3 to 5 minutes for the clocks to set themselves. When I found out that WWV and WWVB radio stations plan to shut down, I was pretty upset due to lack of funding. It seems pretty obvious that this govt seems to spend large amounts on money on stuff that is not even needed. This radio station will be 100 years old this year and will be sad to see it go. This govt does not seem to think that this radio station is still considered a essential service and a lot of people still use this service. Funding was never a problem for this radio service until the current govt got elected. People who use this service should contact the people in charge about this topic and them to provide them with any kind of help they can because a lot of people in North America still rely on these services

      You're a long way from Boulder Co. You should look for clocks marketed for your area and even then if that area of the world has a long-wave time standard transmitter. Otherwise, a manually set quartz movement is the way to go. These clocks can be manually set but then you have to reset it yourself for daylight time changes. Another option is to look for clocks that use signals from the constellation of gps satellites.

      Check the sunspot activity, put the clock OUTSIDE, AWAY from all electrical devices, cords, etc. during a LOW sunspot time AT NIGHT. Your clock is trying to "hear" a very weak signal, from very far away, with a LOT of noise. If it doesn't work at your location, try again in a more remote location. The idea is to find a place where the clock can "hear" that weak signal over the noise of the environment. Sunspots create noise too. If you want to listen for yourself, just build a 60KHz receiver radio and listen to the signal and noise. Move around and see if you can get a stronger signal in certain places, and how loud the noise is. If you find a certain place/orientation/time that gives you a nice loud signal, put your clock there, and wait. Good luck!

    So we got one of these clocks but live one time zone ahead of Eastern Time Zone. Everytime we would use it, it would alter time and end up 1 hour behind as expected. However I think I have a solution! I just pulled the hands off and will leave it a night or two to find it's time! Once it has will press them back on to our correct time and it should be fine, the hour hand being one hour ahead of what it thinks it is set at. Fingers crossed this works!

      Hi I will check tomorrow as I have left work. Bascially I work for a school on the island of Bermuda and had thought your clocks would be perfect for us. However once I read the details on your website realised they would not.
      Then a few months ago a local shop was selling them and the shop purchaser said they work fine and they have had no returns. So I got it, but every morning it would rest itself to be one hour behind, eg Eastern Time as selected on the back.
      A few days ago at a friends he had the exact clock and he said he had the same ssue, but he opened the clock mechanism and cut the ariel so it can't get the signal.
      Then I just thought, pull the hands and let the clock reset to ET, then tomorrow I'll go online to get the world clock time for our region ie +1hr ET and press the hands exactly to this. The clock should just keep this setting, albeit thinking its set at ET not +1hr ET!
      I think this is the best we can do? I wonder at night how far the signal travels as maybe there is a market in other places outside the US if it had more time zone options on the back?

      Thank you for your reply. I fixed my minute hand alignment problem this way... First installing the battery and letting the clock search for a radio signal and when it stopped at one of the 4, 8 or 12 o'clock positions, confirming that the minute hand stopped one minute behind. I removed the battery so the hands would not move, then I removed the clear plastic front. Not moving the hand forward or back, I carefully lifted the minute hand enough to where it was loose on the shaft. Now I was able to align the hand, then press it back down tight on the shaft. I reinstalled the battery confirming that the minute hand was landing right on the 12 when it stopped during search mode. It was, so I reinstalled the clear front, went through the time set procedure and now it is always the correct time!

    jeez that sucks - having to wait for up to 5 'nights' for your clock to catch on to what time it is.. (and I think it probably will not show the right time of day either, whilst it is waiting for 5 nights?! ) there seems to be absolutely non logic to this - it cannot be that Col. only once every three of five days sends the time code, and it also makes no sense in that this man does not know whether you try to put your clock into operation on Monday or in Friday, so it seems it is this crazy clock itself that will only decide you switch on and start reacting after quite a while! not exactly superior a product.

    • @aaryjan
      @aaryjan 7 лет назад

      Okay, that sounds a whole lot better, let's then agree that describing it as a process that might take up to five days (or was it nights) was maybe not the smartest possible way to put it if you would try to build some positive image for this thing. If you would instead explain it as you do right now, saying in worst conditions (whether, reception) it might take a while, that might install more confidence with your potential buyer? If the clock can set to the signal every few minutes ago through the day, I still don't understand that 'five' day thing though.. shouldn't that just be, for a long as heavy overcast or bad weather lasts, as long as the clock is not put up inside a vault or some place alike? Thank you for responding by the way, grs

    Since there is talk that the NIST plans to shut down the WWV, WWVB and WWVH radio stations, is La Crosse Technology going to still manufacture products that use the 60 kHz time code to set the time? There are still a lot of items used in North America still rely on this to set time and if enough people would pressure the government and or congress to help with more funding, then it will survive simply because a lot of people, myself included, rely on this station for accurate timekeeping. If the government has money for other stuff, they can at least give them the money that the radio station needs to keep operating. I will be very disappointed, and I`m sure others will be, if the radio station shuts down for good.i

It sounds as though you may be in a region that struggles to receive the WWVB radio signal normally, so you might have just gone and set the clock's time manually. We should note that once the clock does receive this WWVB reception it will override any manual setting (likely what is happening in your situation). So, it is important to follow the steps in this video, or in your item's full manual, to make sure you have the clock set to the correct time zone and Daylight Saving Time setting to avoid these incorrect times.
