The Tambal man's name is Cristinel Turturica . This is the only Video in the net that I know of where he plays solo. He can be seen a lot with Ionica Minune where he backs up but never,never comes to the foreground which is a pitty since he is one of the few world leading tambal artists. He plays with an incredible looseness, flexibility, security and improvisation that makes hin a true virtuose. On the whole this video exemplifyes the nature of a true jam-session.
I read your comment while the music was playing and I got to the "jam-session" part and thought "what the hell is this guy talking about?" and then, 5 minutes into the vid, I finally understood: this is indeed jam-session at its finest. This is jazz!

Daca nu ma uit pe display, am senzatia ca e pian, desi tambalul nu este cu nimic mai prejos, sufletul conteaza, sa canti cu sufletul si atunci ajunge instantaneu la alte suflete. Pentru mine conteaza enorm si modestia lor. Ma uit si unde s-a facut inregistrarea, se pare ca nu intr-un studio performant. cu atat mai mult sunt coplesit de valoarea lor. Bravo!!! I have heard that some of those gypsy musicians cant even read music. They learn and play all by memory. What a fantastic talent, this is inherited by generations of people who made their living by music, being underpaid and often desposed by their sourroundings. Great!

Este doar o încălzire, înainte de repetiţii. Tind să cred că este o pauză între repetiţii. Nu veniseră încă toţi şi nu este într-un studiou, ci într-o sală oarecare, de cinematograf. Ţambalistul, probabil că vrut să-şi verifice acordajul, şi până la urmă a ieşit ce vedem şi auzim cu toţii. Sunetul este luat direct prin microfonul camerei de filmat. Se simte când cameramanul schimbă direcţia de filmare. De exemplu când filmrază spre sală.
