Drive to survive would honestly be better to watch if I knew nothing about F1
I think this is why I liked the first season the most. It is what got started watching f1
I think this is their target audience

It’s so funny how I watch it now as a true fan. I just skim through the entire series to find specific moments I know we’re interesting.
It was the best thing ever. Unfortunately it was so good it got me obsessed with the sport so I had to start watching races live. And now the show is bad.
Best part for me was Alex predicting the Ricciardo episode.

I mean they literally cut the footage of the last couple of laps to make it look like Norris didn‘t exist and only the Merc‘s were battling Sainz.
That‘s why you always skip the race scenes in DTS and just watch the paddock and behind the scenes stuff which can be interesting.

It was the same when Hamilton was winning
Literally the only episode that was about a race win was Carlos Singapore run.
I know max doesn’t comply with the show so it was a bit expected but this way of displaying the sport is just pathetic.
Didn’t even throw in Oscars sprint win. Sport seems to be about other things than winning.

@u18 Bro, this is DTS, not the sport... Calm down. DTS is trying to attract casuals who don't care if Max or Oscar won cause they don't even know them. They are just trying to create drama so those people can start watching. It's not that deep. Tbh, I was hoping for a bit more on Max, but I get why there wasn't.
Also, you already saw Oscar's win and Max's wins. Why do you need to rewatch them? I'd rather they show more behind the scenes. Though it was a bit disappointing how little behind the scenes they showed.
Not even a glimpse of oscar's first win, alpine didn't deserve two episodes and no struggles of perez shown. Hoped better from this season

Perez struggles in every season and it’s in dts. Only so much they can show him not performing.
@@edfilms9312 One episode per team would make the format a bit too strict since some teams are more worthy of screen time for whatever happened with them.
Sprint doesn’t count as a win in the record books
The DRAMA between Ocon and Gasly for two episodes? Overkill.
10 minutes at best would have sufficed
I mean they had a double DNF in Australia, a podium for Ocon in Monaco, two double dnfs in a row(silverstone, hungaroring), Otmar leaving, and a podium for Gasly in Zandvoort.
One sentence about Bottas' mullet and that was it for Alfa Romeo

Tbh there isnt much more to say on alfa romeo. The mullet was literally the biggest talking point of that team all year
A nice qualifying in Hungary was about all that was interesting about them in 2023.
@@soundscape26 Maybe so but every other team and driver got at least some airtime and its supposed to be about all of them. I forgot Zhou was driving for AR.
What about the massive crash?
4 things:
- not showing the alonso v perez at brazil
- not showing the epic qatar sprint or that weekend as a whole, especially with the mercs crashing and max becoming champion.
- not mentioning sainz’s insane strat at Singapore
- could’ve shown more of the chaos at zandvoort
Agreed and I was annoyed they made it seem like Daniel’s first race back was Zandvoort and Liams first race was Singapore which it wasn’t BUT they did it like that as it’s more of a “story” also they cater this more to casuals and let’s be honest. Most casuals won’t have a clue about the genius Carlos did with Lando

How about ignoring RBR? They talked about Alpha, but nothing about RBR/Max crushing it or the drama with Checo made this a no watch for me.

@@mattnsacyup i felt that would be talked about in the qatar. The problem is max himself doesnt want to be a part of dts so they cant really include much. But yeah, they need to include more of max dominating the field.
The fact they cut out Carlos singapore strategy was horrid, also Danica brought nothing "las vegas is a track no driver has driven on so it levels the playing field"....

I let out the biggest sigh when she first came on screen. She’s a worse commentator than she was a nascar driver. And she was a terrible nascar driver.
Yea, they not going get into that. Carlos will not talk about such things before hand. Also, there is a lot of politics in Formula One, that so you need watch out.

@@nicholasgovan4564 They showed a few wins (Monza, Mexico). Max has made it clear he isnt a fan of Netflix and doesn’t give them access. What else should they do? It was the most dominant seasons, I wouldn’t say best.

Because of their upper management. I feel for the actual workers there cause after seeing the behind the scenes of Alpine it makes me want them to fail but I feel for the actual workers.

They forgot so many big moments in the season and paid way too much attention to Alpine.
The Alpine shit was boring as hell

Honestly get the feeling a lot of the drivers and staff have had the shits of netflix season after season but the teams won't let it go and push themselves to be highlighted and advertise
@@schembri317 Probably true, but at the same time it’s an opportunity for all to elevate their personal brands. Which if you just care about racing is worthless, but for the drivers it can improve their brand. And by extension strengthens their bargaining power on the grid. (To a degree). Again - might seem silly but there is a lot of commercial value when drivers are likeable/relatable. You can see this in how many of them have YT channels, and have invested in a larger social media strategy.
I agree, for me episode 3 and 8 where my favourites, 100% agree two Alpine eps was a bad idea
Heres a few things theyve missed.
- Alpine lost oscar piastri to mclaren
-Oscar winning quatar sprint
-The whole quatar race in general and the heat
-Leclerc and Hamilton disqualified
-Spa and Gasly organizing the track run for Anthoine.(come on Netflix the Episode was about already about Pierre so why not add that part despite having it in the show every year before)
-Just all Fia f.ups in general…
and how about the best performance by a driver over a season in the history of F1...?
Piastri to McLaren Drama was covered in last years season
Just think DTS is not a proper documentary of the season and those misses will be a bit more understandable.
I guess Qatar was such a huge embarrassment to the FIA that they asked the DTS folks to not keep too much from that weekend.
the battle between fernando and perez in brazil, gasly and ocon told to swap positions in japan, stroll having a meltdown, liam lawson knocking max out in singapore quali, monaco quali, theres probably more just thats just what comes to mind rn, instead we get 2 whole episodes about alpine which was so obvious that the higher ups at alpine asked because they have those ryan renyolds netflix connections

A big plus following F1 on F1 TV rather than ESPN/Sky. The token north american is Hinchcliff, rather than Patrick, and he's good.
You cant possibly think she's worse than Will Baxton? She's at least cute and looks like Abigail Spencer's long lost sister.
That was definitely not a good surprise. At all.
I only got through like 6 or 7 episodes, but I can't believe they didn't say anything during the McLaren episode about Piastri getting pole and winning the sprint race in Qatar, or pretty much anything after Silverstone for them when they had a lot of good races at the end of the season. They basically just showed them being terrible for the first half of the season, then showed Silverstone with them finishing 2nd and 4th, and that's it.
I feel like they follow teams for a bit and see what stories they get. They stopped following McLaren at that point of the season and therefore have no good unseen footage for Oscar’s time in the limelight.
It’s speculation. I couldn’t believe it wasn’t part of it either.
Love McLaren, I'm a papaya girly myself, ABSOLUTELY LOVE LANDO HIS MY BOYTJIE! But, yes, E3 was more about Lando' going or staying i think. Would have loved to see the whole, Oscar not driving for Alpine and going to McLaren storyline though.
I stopped about the same point but someone convinced me to watch ep9 and it was perhaps the best episode of the season (if it was the Lawson one...)

I was waiting the whole season for an episode on Perez's struggles. It played such a big role in last season, it should have made it onto the show.
What annoyed me the most was they made it seem like Singapore was Liams debut race and like Zandvoort was the first race Daniel was back at. I get why they did it “for the story” but it drove me up the wall. Was a few other things they did that were similar but that was the worst for me
THIS and the footage of Danny arriving at track was Budapest but they said Zandvoort haha

I hate that dts isn't following a linear path. One episode could go from Bahrain too Azerbaijan then the next takes me back to Australia. Its annoying
Not to mention that they forgot a lot of stuff. Especially Qatar and what happened with the Mercs, Oscar’s first W, and Max winning his 3rd WDC.
I would prefer them to build up stories throughout the season. The first episode: car launches, testing, Bahrain, where they would start to build the stories for each team. Depending on what’s happening, they should grab onto each story and tell it further until the end of the season. This would have a natural flow while filming, still following the team's journey along the way
They kinda did thought. They took the biggest stories of the season and ordered them chronologically. Like 1st aston being good, McLaren struggling, and so on till the ferrari vs Mercedes fight at the end of the season
I guess they still follow a team every two weeks, then mount everything overvthe knee.
What I found hilarious was when they used onboard car footage (of the camera facing the driver) from Bahrain, in the last episode where they covered Ferrari’s and Merc’s championship battle in Abi Dhabi. What they basically did was jump from the very end of the season to the very start.
How can a driver and team have the most dominant season ever and not a single thing of it is shown
Not talking about Qatar at all, whether it’s Max clinching the title, Oscar “winning” before Lando, the Mercedes colliding on lap 1 or the extreme heat conditions was an absolute travesty.
For how often the “fighter pilot mentality” is brought up, not bringing up Ocon throwing up, Lance basically collapsing on an ambulance or Sargent retiring on his own was odd.
Almost forgot. Ocon nearly lawnmower-ing people in the pitlane in Baku was a perfect opportunity to talk about safety.
Probably because F1 FIA don't want their stupidity shown more than it already is haha
Netflix is not there for every race. That race would make a nice drama, but clearly they weren't there. Same like Brazil 2022 and 2023 which they definitely would definitely put if they were on the spot...normally they pick just a few races and that's why they keep on going back to those or using the f1 archives 😅

Writing this before the video, I’m glad y’all made this video because I’m so mad about how dirty they did Yuki. They made it look like he didn’t beat any of his teammates when he beat them all, and said that the reason that he stayed was politics LMAO
As a Yuki fan, I'm not surprised the media will do some narrative alteration and make Riccardo the media's chosen one.

don't know about Lawson Yuki beat him in 1 out of the 5 and yuki got crashed out in 1of the races and DNS on another, and he beat Ricciardo 4-3 and he scored 17 out of the 25 points for his team that season with 15 of them was whilst Lawson and Ricciardo were in the other car.

They should do 1 episode on the drama within each team. 2 episodes featuring Alpine was BOOOOORIIIINNG...

DTS trolling themselves in the episode where Albon is jokingly story-boarding the Danny Ric storyline to Sergant was a funny moment
While people might not like him, RocketPoweredMohawk showed that there was definite storyline to be made out of the RB year. The contrast between Perez's struggles and Verstappen's success is too staggering to not go into. Also, saying that one of the most successful seasons ever by a driver is not DTS episode worthy is a bit much. Like I get the point and agree that you don't want it to be a season recap, but that would be the case if were talking about something like the 2022 season where, yes, Verstappen was great, but not to the extent of winning a historic 19/22 races in a season.

I think Netflix knew, us non RB fans were over the Max domination already. But also, like they said, There wasn't really a Arche. People love a underdog, rags to riches, old dog rising out of the ashes, story line. Unfortunately with Max, there is non of that. Just like in the Lewis years, no one would've like to see an episode of him dominating.
There is no negativity around rocketpoweredmohawk he is angel and everyone loves him
I actually liked the Guenther episode because of how they tied it into Williams. It was interesting to see the 2 different styles of team bosses with one moving up the grid and the other staying at rock bottom
Guenther doesn't have sponsors and the money. Williams has backing right now and their new team principle was making upgrades to the car to make faster. Late in the season the straight line speed of Williams were shocking some the other drivers.

I agree with Matt. It's good, when you love watching every bit of F1 content. But I personally hoped for more. My main issue with DTS is, that it has a great potentional, but o lot of this potentional is just wasted. For example I got really pissed of when race engineer said to a driver "gap 1.5 behind" and there's a rear wing camera of a car being like 0,4s behind, or there were some weird radios during quali. I mean.. I'm not a driver, but I don't think a race engineer talks to his driver every corner of a quali lap. A lot of things like that can really annoy F1 fans. They have all this footage, driver radios and all this amazing stuff, but they often ruin it by trying to overdramatize everything. 6.5/10, once again a lot of wasted potentional unfortunatelly.
Still can’t believe they didn’t do anything with Qatar or Oscar getting his first sprint win before lando got a win, Charles and Hamilton DQ, and the Monaco Quali. They showed Monaco in 3 different episodes and they didn’t even show the best quali of the season. They had the perfect opportunity with the Aston Martin episode
The best part was the f2 grid shot for Silverstone which was funny
I wish that instead of doing an episode about Haas and Williams who weren’t even really fighting at the end of the year that they would have done the episode on the fight for P7 and shown how close it was near the end
I liked that episode actually. I really liked they showed the different leadership styles of Steiner and Vowles. For me it was one of the beter episodes.
Really surprised there was basically nothing about Perez’s and Stroll’s struggles. Also can’t believe there’s no episode about Max dominating. Either one would have been better than a second Alpine episode.
I felt like every episode was pretty much the same. "Here is a team that is struggling, and everybody is depressed. They want to do better" the end
Respect for avoiding rumor-mongering. Talking about a topic under investigation with minimal details is 95% filler and speculations from people who cover it.

For me the lack of Red Bull (driver) content was annoying. It's like they mostly ignored the fact that Red Bull was doing something historic till the end.
I agree its better that they have gone back to this format. However i do love the old BBC year in review programs and of course what Floz has done with SIlver wars. But i guess you need a competitive race season to do things like this and make it watchable.
Despite not having an episode about checo... I felt the few minutes of Checo and De vyres chatting at Monaco about struggling was peak DTS.

Ryan Reynolds told Netflix that from now on drive to survive seasons should have atleast 2 episodes of alpine story cause it's my team and my childrens like to watch it.
Almost no mention to Alonso´s 8 podiums at his 42 years of age... but 2 full episodes dedicated to Alpine. Speechless.
Will Buxton is the worst. The guy said loosing pole is such a huge failure. We all know it was impossible to keep the Redbull behind in Monza.
I'm bored of lewis going on and on about 2021. It's exhausting and hard to watch.
I liked it ,the behind the scene nuggets were pretty entertaining and some of the stories that they showed were actually interesting.
Watching DTS, I wasn't sure Max was going to win the championship🤔

The moment i was shocked i didnt see was in the episode about Alpine and Pierre and Esteban where they didnt show the clip of Pierre raging in Japan. I fully expected to see them shove that in for a story

Carlos Sainz’s win in a whole of Max domination. Or just some bit of more max in general. - I mean talk about Singapore.. they (redbull) seemed literally frustrated .. even though they had a whole clean sweep the last of the year. That was the only pivotal moment that I really missed in DTS..
One thing I noticed was that they showed that Perez finished P4 BEHIND Russell at the finish line in Abu Dhabi whereas he actually finished P2 and fell back to P4 after a penalty
10:00 the reason this doesn't really bother me is that sometimes when that stuff happens i don't see it as them trying to make it look like russell is complaining before the first corner, the race start is just like b-roll for the voice over. and then when it comes to the actually important visuals like overtakes they are usually correct
It’s kind of ridiculous how they just ignored Max for the whole season except for a 30 second clip in the last episode..
I mean they did the same with Lewis in the first season and no one complained😂😂😂

I'm surprised they didn't make more out of the Mercedes battling through the season and Lewis finally hitting George in Qatar, especially given that they made such a big deal of the Alpine 'civil war'. I feel like that could have replaced maybe the second Alpine episode, but I'm also glad they didn't over exaggerate things so...?
Everyone was saying those scenes were made for it, and they didn't make the cut.
Guessing Lewis, George and Toto were asked but didnt give the answers Netflix could create something of. Ocon and Gasly were pretty open about their rivalry.
The problem is that they didn't have a RB episode. It could have focused 60% on Checo and his stress, and compare it to Max's record breaking success. There was/is an obvious episode to make from all that.
I’m halfway through and I think it is very interesting. Amazing how these people live behind the scenes.
The only thing I would add is that dts brought in loads of new fans. So dts probably took a decision at some point to make it more about capturing new fans than creating extra content enjoyable for hardcore fans.

I agree with a lot of it and also talking about the Zak Brown / Lando golf situ. it might have been slightly scripted or performative but they both go golf together very regularly so it was nice to see that side of their relationship. I also didn't know how far their relationship goes that far back either!
I'm just about to watch s6 now. I felt very very deflated last year after watching s5 and they left it all the most exciting bits in that season. Thanks for the heads up with s6. I'm not expecting much from it but must get through it before next weekend - like a school project looming over me needing to get done so I can relax afterwards.
I just watched the first episode and it was outstanding. One of the best audio video content I have ever seen. 44 minutes of looking behind the curtain of the mega rich and hyper competitive. 10/10
I have seen every race since the start of 1984 season and worked at the Australian Grand Prix. To those who are not already F1 fans, I can't think of a better introduction to the pinnacle of competitive human endeavour in all facets.
They baited us all with the “black or red” episode. The Lewis contract one is hilarious now too.

I think the thing with Alpine is that they are sponsored/owned/however by a bunch of famous people& Ryan Reynolds, and RR is kind of tight with Netflix, so that might have been a reason, to give the team some pr...
Lawrence clearly paid for EP 1, they tried to make lance look like a superhero. They still wanna try and make Norris an A-hole. where was Piastris Win in the sprint? Etc etc

I think its nice, we see a lot more behind the scenes, even though some of it might be forced. But still get to see things we don’t see in the season

The story they missed that is kind of similar to Checo's struggles was Lance choking. The had the whole 'Lance diving in pain, what hero' but ignored Lance being a total failure the rest of the season. They had the whole 'Aston Martin v Mclaren for 4th place' and didn't even mention AM dropping to 5th because Lance was rubbish and it was literally Fernando v Mclaren. Other than Logan and Zhou you could have put any other driver in the second Aston seat and they'd have finished 4th easy. Lance was by far the biggest bust/under performer of the season. Is daddy Stroll such a hen that they were worried about putting his little boy in a bad light and making him mad?

The DRS strat from Carlos and the whole Qatar weekend are the 2 things i missed from this season of DTS.
I don't really understand why they didn't include those, considering they were huge talking points.

I haven't watched one episode of drive to survive since season four and by reading the comments, I realize I'm not missing out much.

I loved the focus on how Vowels is a huge data driven guy. Really displays how he thinks or views the sport.
Really enjoyed the Mclaren episode. The story of the recovery from the back to lando leading into the first corner at silverstone was really well done

The "overtake available" thing is also nearly 1 to 1 translated in other languages in the subtitles, so they give no emphasis on what's actually being said. In Norwegian, it's literally translated to "you can now overtake". Only when the engineer says "overtake button is available" it makes sense what's meant in English as well as the subtitles.
I had to explain this to my parents watching along and they had no idea it was referring to a button and not the engineer telling the driver that they can overtake now, like they couldn't try to before.
I got into F1 in 2022 when I walked downstairs and my roommate was watching a race. Supplemented with this channel I got into quick without ever hearing about DTS
I can’t wait to see next years DTS, with all the driver transfers that should happen this season

that first episode was quite enjoying, lawrence stroll is an absolute boss haha, i actually enjoyed most of this season! but to much alpine to little redbull
I was definitely expecting a lot more Oscar. Astonishing rookie season, we know he’ll be around for a while so could have been a great story to follow from the start, and SPRINT WIN!! And he’s super popular with fans. Hopefully next season.
All in all, I enjoyed maybe 15 minutes of season six because Netflix was able to capture a few things that you can't get from the outside. The rest is either obviously staged dialogue from team bosses or incorrectly edited audio during qualifying or a race.
As a big Formula 1 fan, I'm really disappointed
