Yeah. The live drum bit for a song like this might sound nice “on the surface,“ so to speak, but it also doesn’t quite match up to the artistic integrity of the original recording. Love this song nevertheless, by the way.
hell yeah - very good sound for live. To the discussion of beats - i prefer the programmed beats too. Dave sings here much better than nowadays - the "down" and "a"s and .. but he`s still very good. Anyone seen, he`s spittin on the stage?
@silviak07 Alan is the one that made DM last, because he gave them the musicianship, and added the Dark side you hate so much which gave them credibility. Alan was the one to produce the tracks, to work in the studio, to do the remixes and the backing tapes for the live. You apparently have no idea of what was his impact. Without Alan there's no "behind the wheel", no "enjoy the silence", no "little 15" and it goes on and on and on. Read a bit, watch the EPK's of the remasters, and learn.
and that's complete bullshit. you just started this post construction religion of yours when Exciter arrived. you didn't miss Alan at all on Ultra o on several tours since. even though at least two tours have been pretty lousy, you really can't expect them to be as good forever.
@silviak07 YES i have listened to Recoil, and i love it. You have to know that he didn't stop in 2000, since his latest album "Subhuman" was released in 2007, to the pleasure of thousand of fans. I will take no blame from you billyboy, i have been enjoying DM's music since the very start, i still have "Dreaming of me" in vinyl. I ve seen all the tours between 1986-1998. IF you can't see what DM has lost with Alan's departure, you have no ears, so i can't do much for you.
@silviak07 Recoil music is PERFECTLY produced, even better than what he did for DM. Recoil music tells a story. It is art, it is music. Not for the masses, not easy-listening. "Nobody likes it" or number of fans dont count (otherwise you need to prefer the current charts over DM, coz DM never was that high in charts). DM sound nowadays is thin, it sounds empty, ... this is what many people say. Oh by the way, one doesn't have to be into B&D and stuff to be fascinated by that in music or movies.
Alan’s arrangement for live performances were sublime.
Excellent live version!
Let me see those hands!!!
Depeche Mode figura entre las mejores cosas que me pasaron en la vida.
My king of love by band
Every concert after Violator tour, when this song is proformed. The version of this song is shot
Timeless!!
It sounds much better with pre programmed drums than live drums
It happens with EVERYTHING DM play live.. Live drummer in DM, for me, is the most pathetic thing. It ruins all.

BRUTAL!!!!!!
@pignitter
I liked Alan on the drums during the Devotional tour.
well..this is dave in his best performance
Eigner is a good man, but you can't beat these machines they used back then.
THE BEST FOREVER
I totally agree about the drums
hammer sound
hell yeah - very good sound for live.

OMG!!!!
Epic performance! in my opinion, one of there best! ^_*) great vid NV, lol!
I agree. Most of the band's pre-Ultra songs sound better with pre-programmed drums.

Couldn't agree more 👏
GRACIAS!!!!! buena calidad de imagen para ser un piratilla.
What happened to Martin's "See the stars..." bit in the 101 version? I've heard it in every live rendition (including this one) after it.
The best ! Pozdrawiam Michów k/Lubartowa ! Zajebista muzyczka !
Dave hade a great voice back then very crisp , very clean , nowdays not so much:(
I think devotional was great too!!!......
Without Alan they're lost, he made different sound fantastic, now they're just surfing on their legend.

smth special indeed , smth deep.......
@alanwilder81 Totally agreed.

Age and cigars can have that effect.
@slobodan77 Indeed, trying to become a ROCK star he lost what made DM so different for many many fans.
@pignitter Yeah. Miss Alan Wilder.
Dave with pure arrogance. Very cool...
Lil slow isn't it ?
Real depeche Mode need no Drummer!......all Drums on Tape...REVOX A77 Tape Machine ,TEAC A3440 Tape Machine....DEPECHE MODE=ALAN!
