    The Dart Swinger was for sale in Weatherford, OK for $18,950 in April. It was driven just over 1000 miles after the engine swap. The 340 V8 is from 1972, and the car has an 8 3/4 rear with an Eaton Tru-Trac. It was originally a slant-6 car.

      About that roof... Modern car repair and manufacturing techniques mean a dented roof is something you remove and install a perfect replacement. This does not have to apply to cars designed and built in the 1970's. "Modern repair techniques" also assume that replacement parts are available.
      A good metal worker like Santa's Workshop can straighten that roof without a problem. The quarter panel is more difficult.

      I'm 46 and have a love for antique , classic muscle cars and trucks,.
      But growing up around my grandfather , father and uncle mechanics/gearheads. my grand father owned/ran a full service pennzeoil gas /service station . I pretty much learned enough by observeing/watching them work on vehicles in the service stalls of that service station as a child , let's just say I know enough to be dangerous about doing vehicle mechanic work.
      sadly with a messed up spine and back and in a wheelchair I can no longer do mechanic work including basic maintenence to my vehicles.

    The Swinger is a "Beak nose" era, '73-'76. 340's were done by '72, & they were cast crank. If a 340, it's a resto mod- could be a steel crank ('68-'71) or cast ('72). The sticker is a re-pop,
    The AC is factory. The floor mat is a vintage aftermarket piece. The 5th digit in the VIN is probably a G, 318. Rear end, if 8.75, also a retro-fit. Doesn't guarantee a "Sure-Grip." Largest factory rear? 8.25", could be Sure-Grip, it was optional.
    I know these cars...

    • @harleydude-xo8pu
      @harleydude-xo8pu День назад +4

      You could order the 340 on the 1973 model as an option, Yes it was discontinued as a standard engine after the 1972 model.

    • @olikat8
      @olikat8 День назад +1

      @harleydude-xo8pu Dart Sport officially was possible, but a Swinger was 318 as a top option. Were there factory oddball, like Rick Ehrenburg ordering a 273 Commando, 4-speed Valiant sedan? Yes, but he worked at Chrysler.
      VIN is the key, my money says it's a "G" and it's most likely a dressed up 318. Look at the exhaust manifolds...lo-po, non-up swept lumps
      If it has the right VIN character for a 340, it's very valuable. Not holding my breath,

      @@olikat8 You could purchase a 1973 Dart Swinger with the optional performance package that came with a floor mounted 4 speed, 340 motor, rally suspension, bumble bee stripe. The 318 was a standard motor with the Swinger. The Dart Sport also could be ordered with the 340 as well.

    • @72dodge340

      @@harleydude-xo8pu No, you could not get a '73 Dart Swinger with a 340, absolutely not. They made some 340 Swingers in 1971 for CANADA, but not the US. After 1970, the 340 was done in the Swinger. Only avail in 108" wheelbase a-bodies (in addition to B- and E-bodies) after '70 in the US, not in 111" wheelbase cars.

    • @harleydude-xo8pu
      @harleydude-xo8pu 19 часов назад

      @@72dodge340 YES YOU COULD HAVE. Look it up, it fell under the performance package that was available for the 1973 Dart Swinger model, I guess you will tell me you couldn't get the Hurst floor mounted 4 speed with the performance package or the special paint or the bumble bee stripe or the rallye suspension either. I guess you will tell me that the 318 was an option motor as well and not the standard available motor. Love the 60's and 70's cars and I have always take my car to the dealer to have her oil change etc for better trade in value but since my car is 11 years old and the prices are so high now since covid for a oil change ($89.99 for a regular oil change) I used Valvoline for the first time 2 weeks ago and cost me less than $28.00 with 9.75% tax with a 50% off coupon which can be found online. They show you the oil stick after they refilled your oil to show you your car is full. They did a good job. They did get some oil drips on the engine cover but I just wipe it and it made my cover look great lol. It did take about 18 minutes because someone was in front of me. I would use them again.

    1970 last year of the left-hand threads.
    Roof can be fixed, ditto the 1/4 (as you know) very sad... cool car! You know if you can't do bodywork yourself then very costly to contract it out.
    People of all ages LOVE classic cars! I am in my early 50's but even younger guys I know that are 20 even teens love them, what turns them away is the high price otherwise they would have one!
    I worked as a Tech at a Toyota dealer and when I brought my old 1967 Chrysler Newport Custom 2 door (Custom was top trim model for the Newport it is black/black buckets,console,magnum 500 wheels 383 high performance ran 12.98 in the 1/4 mile with 3.23 gearing only thing done to the engine is a direct connection/mopar purple cam and mild porting in the heads).
    I drove it to work everyone loved it, the young guy's even young women loved it. Then my 1968 Charger R/T the guys went crazy! Hell, even my 1977 Cordoba I owned at the time (7 years ago) they 17 year old part time car washer loved it and looked for one and I went with him and for $3800 he bought a pretty decent Cordoba, I went through it to get it reliable(it was parked for 18 years) he drove it to school/work and trade school for years. So, young guys like old cars, even ones that work at a Toyota dealer and drive Toyota's and Honda's.
    Maybe the people that watch your channel are not into classics because you mainly focus and buy cars from the 90's to 2010's usually. So, the viewers of your channel are into late 90's to today's cars, shame though old cars are ultra cool!! I like cars of all years, and appreciate them for what they are and time period..Probably in 50 years people will only like self driving pods and wont fathom the idea of how we actually had to drive a car and not play a video game and watch cat videos as we had to dreadfully drive (I feel bad for future people,they missed out).

    1973 was the last year of the 340. In 1974 they were 360 engines. Also, a 1973 340 was nothing compared to the 1968-1970 engines. Unlikely the engine came in that car. An air cleaner doesn't make it so!
    The V.I.N. will tell you exactly what engine is in it.

    • @kevinkeeney6693
      @kevinkeeney6693 4 часа назад

      Agreed. Definitely not a factory 340 as that wasn't an option in 1974. It was likely an excellent original Slant Six car and somebody installed the 340 . About 25 years ago, Slant Six Darts were cheap and it was very common to discard the Slant Six for a V8.. So common, that I bought a 1966 Dart with a Slant Six because I feared that there would be no more examples of this historical engine. Fortunately, I was wrong and they are still around.

    My uncle who passed away 2 years ago .
    had a 1970 Dart Swinger its the body style prior to this 1974 dart.
    It got an engine swap from the leaning tower of power 225 slant six to a 400 v8 that was souped up a bit.
    which worked fine until he accidently granaded the automatic transmission a couple of times it was the original transmission from the factory mated t the slant 6. it was rebuilt those times as in the transmision . h e ended up putting a heavier duty transmission from a truck or van and it had a shift kit and other things done to the transmission . everything was good until it wasnt. the factory rear differential blew apart put another rear end in it and the same thing happened. so he got a truck/van rear end in it that had to be shortened width wise.to fit the car. after that it was pretty much bullet proof and ran absolutely good tons of power it was naturally aspirated too . the 400 cui was completely rebuilt and moded from the block up.
    Here's the kicker about the car.
    there was some sibiling rivalery happening between my uncle and his brother whos my father.
    my dad built a 1970 chevy Nova SS. which had a small block 400 V8 power plant . they always tried to out do each other .
    you get the gest of it lol.

    I bet that is an all original Swinger 340, probably stored it's whole life before the accident. Worth putting a roof and quarter on. That little car would be fun with that V8 compared to my old 74 Scamp with the Slant 6. Awesome find Randy.. You would want to put out on the quarter and as you do the hump on the top side would lower itself with a little body hammering, For now you could remove the rear seat and place a 4x4 piece of wood across there and set a porta power ram or hydraulic ram on it and place another cut down 4x4 on top and slowly use the ram to push the roof back up close to level.

    I get my oil changed at WalMart. You pick oil and filter brand. Go shopping and in half hour your vehicle is ready. Never had a problem and they don't try to upsell you. The Dart has minimal collector value but it is a high dollar for a Dart due to engine and options. The roof can be repaired without replacing it. The quarter no. The interlock bypass is to start the car from under the hood. Remember in 74 they had the seatbelt interlock with ignition. Wouldn't start unless seatbelt was fastened. All you had to do was unplug it under seat or buckle seat belt behind you.

My local Walmart at least has older guys who are experienced techs, Take 5 and these other places usually hire kids with no experience.

    Yes sir, left thread up to about 1971. Engineer thought it would keep the lugs from spinning off the car.

    I had a Plymouth Scamp that was a 74 and it was a slant six engine. The 340 V8 was only available until the end of the 1973 model run. The 74 models had a 360 4bbl V8 as an option. Sad to say, the emissions sticker stating it is a 340 V8 is probably a reproduction. 1974 had a one year only seat belt interlock. Unless the seat belts were in use, the car would not start.

    I did the odd oil change on my Nissan at take 5 and no problem here in Dallas. I would only take it there if the dealership was busy, and I was in a rush.

    Please save the Dart. I have a feeling that Santa would love to get his hands on it. He's such a perfectionist that it would be absolutely perfect once he got done with it.

    The vinyl top is appropriate for that car plus it will help hide the bodywork done

    Take 5 just be careful the over tight the drain plug. The when you try to get it out you strip the threads. Buy the swinger Randy.

    I'd bet that roof could be fixed... it's a pretty big area that's bent so the bigger the area is usually the easier to fix when it comes to roofs from my experience.

    I would straighten the roof on the Dart... It is possible, but will be time consuming to fix that quarter panel... I would grab it if the price is reasonable...
