I am about to become 66, I was a true skinhead girl with two tone tonic strides!! I love this song, not many people know it. this is the first time I have found it on the internet.
I wish more ska bands had this style. It's usually more punks at thier shows. I got to see English Beat few years back, just before covid shut the world off. It was great seeing rudies & skinheads, they just aren't common anymore.
Well we had anyways. Now there's just chavs and that's nothing to be proud of. Personally, I feel the death of the last real, home grown British subculture was probably the Madchester scene which for the most part had fizzled out over thirty years ago. And if we're being honest, even it was nothing compared to the groups we had from the 50s to the 70s. Personally I blame the rise of tech.. the internet, constant connectivity etc. Back in the day scenes developed more regionally, more organically back in the past before internet.. there was only the odd magazine of TV programme to see what was happening around the country, never mind the world.. so there was opportunity for unique subcultures to flourish and grow in their own way. Now we just live in a huge, one single, global culture and to honest I think it sucks. Sure, we have gained some things, for one there's a wealth of knowledge out there now, you can find anything you want to know or buy online.. you didn't have to go 150 miles by train to get the clothes or boots you want, you can order them and have them here in the post the next day.. but on the other hand we have lost so much. Its good that reunions keep the past alive because its all we have.. a memory of a better time.
Awesome watching this , I'm a early 80s hip hop child who's 51yrs now but I can appreciate this seeing people enjoying the whole scene they grew up with 👌💯🔥🔥🔥🔥 fkn luv the music 🙏

SKA FASHION, MUSIC & DANCE [10:09] The energetic, stylish boy wearing yellow braces and bleached denim dances a modified dub-step shuffle that is hypnotic, entrancing and rhythmic. Ska is fast dance music that became known to the world in the late ‘50s. It’s known for combining Jamaican mento rhythms with American rhythm and blues. And, it uses jazzy instruments like trumpets, trombones, and saxophones to give the mento vibes. The guitar is also one of the main instruments of ska. The songs of this genre have frequent jumpy rhythms, and the lyrics are more often than not talking about local issues.
Always remember the skinheads being the last to get changed after PE, lacing up the doc Martins took time. Especially as an arms race broke out over the number of lace holes you had on your DMs.
