I rented this movie sometime in 1983 or '84. I invited two friends over to watch the movie with me. Mike had served in the Air Force, and James had served in the Army. Now James might have served in Viet Nam, I don't remember. I served five years and four months in the Navy. At the end of the movie, all three of us had tears in our eyes. As they say, There but for the Grace of God, go I."
I rented this movie sometime in 1983. I have it now, but getting back to the story, I rented it once in 1983, maybe '84. These two friends came over to watch it with me. One served in the Army during Viet Nam, and one served in the Air Force, I believe after Viet Nam. I served five years in the Navy from August, 1977 to December, 1982. At the end of the movie, all three of us had tears in our eyes. There, but for the Grace of God go I.
A classic film with a strong message about Nam.Great acting especially from Gene Hackman , coupled with a considered soundtrack of which Ray Kennedy is outstanding.Get the dvd!
This movie inspired me to look into joining the Army when I was in 7th grade (2001). It played back to back in TBS Superstation back then. Here’s to getting accepted into the Warrant Officer/Helicopter Pilot program hopefully next year. Also, Happy Memorial Day 2020, Everyone!
Every politician in Washington D.C. should have to watch this movie a few times a year.

I remember watching the ending credits as a kid, seeing Sailor dance and thinking he had found his own peace at last.
Great song. I played this song at my Dad's memorial service to honor his service in the US Army.

We owe our freedom to them
Love this. I grew up with Viet Nam from start to finish. I always wondered how many of my friends from high school never came back.
