A thanks to Holden Green who’s a massive Romance Of The Three Kingdoms fan, you really need to know your stuff to review these games so he’s helped out there, let him know what you thought!
When it comes to duel or debating, the system works like this: 1. Whoever gives more card wins the round. It doesnt matter what the card says. Number of cards you present on that round(this is the most important) and the numbers on those cards are what matters. 2. If both present the same number of card(s), whoever has the bigger sum of numbers written on the card(s) wins. 3. Consecutive cards must be 3 minimum. (eg. You can do 1, 2, 3 but not just 1 and 2. You can do more than 3 cards if your numbers are all consecutive.) 4. Same cards must be 2 minimum. (eg. You can do 1 and 1 or 2 or 2 and so on. You can even do 4 of the same number cards if you have them on your deck.) 5. The "Special" card can be added to increase the number of cards to whatever card(s) you wish to pick and it also increases the total sum of of the numbers on the card(s) you pick. It doesnt do any additional damage. The "Special" card only helps you to win that round. 6. Look at what cards you are about to be given for the next round. It is sometimes wise to just lose a round then hit your opponent hard on the next round with better cards. You and your opponent deal more damage as rounds progress. Both duel and debate works with the same above mechanics. Sorry for my bad English. I play this in Korean version.
Really glad you reviewed this. I played ROTK 14 on Switch and enjoyed it (although I was a little surprised at how repetitive it became despite the surface complexity). That game has touch control which I loved, so a little disappointed it has been excluded. Maybe added with a patch later. Love the idea of Officer mode, definitely one I will pick up eventually.
I have no idea if it's fun to play doing this but I think the fact that you COULD play as a farmer or lowly rank and file solider and just having the win condition be not conquer China but just not die very interesting. Probably not something I'd do on the first playthrough, but would definitely give it a go at some point!
Im super sad they cut the hot-seat multiplayer. I would have been fine with just up-rezzed graphics and a port. Meh. 😢😭 This is like my favorite video game series ever, and some of the changes were just forcing stuff from 13/14 into this, instead of just an enhancement with updated systems.
Snesdrunk reviewed the snes titles and they looked interesting. But I doubt I could get into those today. This however looks like something i could do.
Original 8 was a classic. One of the first to bring RPG element and grand strategies together and the old art and music was way better. What remake needed was more encounters / events / army varieties / things to for ronin or merchant type characters and they missed the chance to add them.
I heard about this game but never knew how were the gameplay mechanics, you made it perfectly clear, thanks Holden and thanks Switchup for this long day of amazing reviews! Thing is, now how can we deal with all these good games coming out??
Don't know if you did a review on this, but there is a game called "nobunaga's ambition awakening" that is very similar to this game but follows japans sengoku period instead.
I haven’t played a game in this series in over 20 years. Why was 14 released on Switch in 2021 and 8 just now available? Wouldn’t I want 14 if they continued to improve, or is there something unique about this game?
This is definitely a "get it later when it's a bit cheaper" one. I already have Brothership I'm going to get, and I'm waiting on a performance review of SonicXShadow to decide if I'm getting that, I can't handle this...right now.
Honestly I'm very excited for the game because I definitely love it even if rotk10 is my favorite. My biggest compliment with this remaster is the price tag. But then rotk14 on the switch is also over priced
I heard 8 is the best for TOO LONG so when my copy from Play-Asia comes in I get to see if it lives up to the hype or if I stick only to NOBUNAGA'S AMBITION.
I am a big fan of the first RotTK games. Especially 1 on NES and 4: Wall of Fire on the SNES. I purchased RotTK XIV on my Switch last year and I was VERY disappointed... I was hoping for something in the style of Wall of Fire but it is a boring arcade game. Can someone tell me if this RotTK 8 is like the older games? From the video it does look like it, but I want to be sure haha. I dont want to pay close to a hundred dollars again for a game I won't play

Please can you let me know if the game allows you to start as a free officer you created yourself and still rule as a Sovereign?
Dang! You guys are working overtime today! 😂
Nice one, Holden! Really enjoyed your review.

Your English is great.
It's my favourite childhood game. Quickly graph it for myself. Thanks
11:05 80 CAD? Holy moly! When I was watching this I def felt it looked like a 50-60$ game but hoped it was 20-30$. Maybe on sale one day
Jordan has almost convinced me to get the physical from playasia
There’s a version with an English box art I ended up getting it ps5
Who's jordan? Some kind of Physical Paradise channel you could plug?
Thanks for all the helpful reviews. Got confused by the Romancing SaGa 2 music at the end but I guess you guys really liked that game.
Another review! 3 reviews in 1 day. You mad lads. 😆

I knew you said there would be a lot of videos this week, but wow!

Great review buddy! Really enjoyed it with my morning coffee. Cheers Glen.
Never heard of this title, it looks interesting but not quite my cup of tea. 3 reviews of the day what legends you guys are ! Keep it up!!!
Check out Nobunaga’s Ambition as well. On sale right now too
I played the original RoTK 8 on a PS2 emulator and there are countless possibilities on how the game will be played!
Im super sad they cut the hot-seat multiplayer.

True
The old hand paint art style (UI / PortraitS / City) is so much better!
Reminds me of medieval II: Total War. Pretty cool that the switch has games like this
Was on the fence with this one as I always gone for the Dynasty Warrior games. But this review has definitely got me more interested
This looks like one to pick up.
Snesdrunk reviewed the snes titles and they looked interesting. But I doubt I could get into those today. This however looks like something i could do.
Oldie but goodie.
Thanks Holden for such a great review you bring a veterans perspective thats so great for newcomers, much love
Playing as Zhang Ren? Good stuff
Great review again. I was not wooed by this game but the saga 2 remaster looks amazing!

Looks interesting. How legible was the text in handheld mode?

It reminds me of a AAA version of an indie game I played so much World Conqueror X. I might try it.
Very niche game but once you’re hooked you can’t stop playing
9:50 mandarin isn't authentic, the language spoken during the three kingdoms era was very different to modern Chinese
Don't know if you did a review on this, but there is a game called "nobunaga's ambition awakening" that is very similar to this game but follows japans sengoku period instead.
The great, and I mean GREAT thing about the confim button being X is that you can't possibly accidentally confirm an action.

Not my cup of tea but its nice to see. Cheers SwitchUp! Hope that what's got you dropping consecutive videos is going well. 😊

The book is great, highly recommend it
I m gonna wait for civilisation VII instead of this 1.
Menus: The Game!
This game sounds a lot like Crusader Kings! I'm interested in checking it out
Honestly I'm very excited for the game because I definitely love it even if rotk10 is my favorite. My biggest compliment with this remaster is the price tag. But then rotk14 on the switch is also over priced
Based for playing as Zhang Ren
Is it possible to switch the gameplay language from English to other languages such as Japanese?
After being so annoyingly woken up this is a nice treat 😂😂 Not my kind of game but YS X is todaaaaay!! 🎉🎉🎉
No mandarin in a game set in China is a strange choice
What makes the 8th entry special, since that gets a remake with so many entries in the series?
Why are you using Romancing Saga music?
bought a number of games from this series over the years and yet no matter how hard I try they just never click with me
Switchup still spoiling us, alright now I can get use to this. Not sure about this one though
I heard 8 is the best for TOO LONG so when my copy from Play-Asia comes in I get to see if it lives up to the hype or if I stick only to NOBUNAGA'S AMBITION.
Any chance you can review Botworld Odyssey please?

I've never had any interest in these games... Until now. Damn you!!
Directly ordered from Asia 😅
Romancing Saga backround music to review Romance of the Three Kingdoms? That's funny.
🤯 this...... feels a little overwhelming....
Wish the physical was easier to find in English.
3:21 no tails from sonic? Aight, ima head out 🚶🧽 hahahah jk
rotk 11 is still the best imo
My favorite games
Bloody hell do you guys sleep?
How about your descendants, I mean children, how often the child born and how many are the limits.
I need a Switch review of Sonic X Shadow generations please 😢😢
Is this Nabunaga?
meh , the game is very tedious and boring tbh
Looks boring
Agreed I like strategy games but damn not 100 percent menus 😢
@@kevinmokumobi9684 This game is amazing, but not for everyone. It is made for us who played it 25 years ago. :D
@@zoltankramer3383 yeah I get it but no view of actual combat yikes show me a damn drawing of someone riding a horse something
