- A Black Shaolin monk breaks a vow of nonviolence to save his students from a gang.
TWISTING TIGER is used with permission from Joseph Le. Learn more at josephle.squarespace.com.
As a younger man, Tarrell was involved in a gang fight in which he accidentally killed his best friend. Since then, he has become a Shaolin monk devoted to a life of zen and pacifism, teaching and mentoring kids in the martial arts.
But when one of his students, Virgil, is threatened by a menacing gang, Tarrell must decide whether or not to break his vows of nonviolence to protect his students. In doing so, he must confront the trauma of his past and the person he's become since.
Directed by Joseph Le and written by Nick Hoang, this stylish, engaging action thriller short mixes the iconic urban crime dramas of the 1990s, like MENACE II SOCIETY and BOYZ N THE HOOD, with Hong Kong kung fu cinema. The rest is a fresh, entertaining take on a classic redemption story, shot with a slick, elegant eye and featuring terrific action sequences at a level not often seen in the short film format.
This is a type of narrative especially beloved in this genre, of a man confronting the past consequences of earlier, thoughtless violence. The redemption arc here hits reliable beats but is made deep by its unique main character, its focus on L.A. gang violence and its respect for its inspirations. At just over 30 minutes, the writing takes advantage of its runtime to go deep into the roots of Tarell's past, and the depth amplifies themes of the cyclical nature of violence and the connection between the trauma of the past to the violence of the present.
Actor Tarell Kota Bullock plays the main character with stoicism and groundedness that evokes tough experience and wisdom but also captures the haunted nature of PTSD. But where he and the rest of the film shine are the fantastic fight sequences, shot with the grace of dance with the clarity of great camerawork. This isn't surprising, considering director Le is well-regarded in Hollywood for his stunt work and action sequence design in films like SHANG-CHI AND THE LEGEND OF THE TEN RINGS.
But the film smartly avoids making the action gratuitous. Instead, it's tied intimately to the progression of character and story -- even the way Tarell fights as an older, more haunted man differs from the more volatile movements of his younger self. Those aspects of himself come into collision, unleashing a torrent of emotion that comes out in a masterful, suspenseful set of fights that both dazzle the eye while raising the question of just how far we can leave the past behind.
Powerful, immersive and undeniably compelling, TWISTING TIGER has the confidence of knowing exactly what kind of film it is and committing whole-heartedly to its genre, character and story. As a result, it's not just resonant as an anti-violence character-centered drama, but it's also just a lot of fun to watch. - Кино
This was so incredibly well done.
Unbelievably well done!!!! You're not lying!!!
Team Red Pro. On RUclips
Beautifully shot pun intended. The journey to redemption paid off for the Monk. I can’t help but think of the switching of roles with ethnicity made for a powerful story. Kudos to all involved this delivered a karate chop to my brain.
You had me at Black Shaolin monk
Stop reading my mind!!
This reminds me of my situation too when I used to be hanging around with the same people doing stuff that I wasn't supposed to do I ended getting beat up twice by 6 people at first and the last was with a person who knew how to street fight I got mad and depressed I didn't know what to do that I didn't want to hangout with the people I hanged out and starting learning how to teach my self how to fight too to get revenge on them all but one day I was exercising my situps and something so calm in my mind hit me telling me that that wasn't the answer but the mistakes and the efforts I was doing in my practice of skill was to become a better person and pass on the message to others from the same mistakes as I've done
If its true its really impressive and I'm ashamed of myself reading you. Keep up brother ! The life is hard but we can fight for being good
R/thathappened
that fruit fly speech was hilarious (their expressions, lol). loved the blooper reel too!
This was great! The choreography, the story, the acting, just everything! Well done
*everybody loves kung fu fighting*
Each time I watch one of these short films I think that they can't possibly get any better but then one like this comes along. Surely nothing can top this.
I enjoyed every second of this short. The fight ritual, their face expressions, and movements of their hands, were perfect.
It was an incredible short Movie, The fighting scenes, a beautiful dance of excellent choreographed movement. The story was told with compassion and the Acting was to me a standing ovation. I sincerely think this deserves an award. Thank you 😊 💓.
Omeleto usually starts my day off in a good way, but today is going to be the day that Omeleto changes my life for the better!!!! Thanks to Allen bringing this film to me at the perfect moment in my off track life. I'm getting up right this second to change the path I'm on to the one that benefits me, the ones I love, and the ones I've never met. I hope at least one other person can understand this and do the same......it's not as difficult as you may think.
I'm with you my friend!
30 minutes, how long does anyone think was spent to capture this HALF HOUR???? I am gonna guess close to a year! It wouldn't surprise me if it was even more than that!!! At the very least, I would say a minimum of 6-8 months, of daily work. Even when not on set, these folk are at home, practicing in front of a mirror, or practicing lines, trying to find the emotion they need to have to deliver the lines!!! I believe this is why we all love movies so much, some part of us understands the passion, the dedication, the motivation, the insane drive to get it done to the best of their ability!!! This one, is a wonderful example of all of that put into a perfect story. Twice it had tears on my cheeks, that's what great art does! It takes ahold of us in such a way that we lose ourselves, even if just for the moment we're watching, but sometimes that's all we need to continue our day to day, extremely mundane and un-extraordinary lives!!! Without art in this world, it would be a place NO ONE wants to be a part of!
Thanks to everyone involved in this project! You ALL should be very proud of what you accomplished. I've been an artist for over 40 years and somehow I have not found the drive inside myself to do anything half as amazing as this piece. You all have my utmost respect!!!!!
I totally agree 👍.
Sifu in Los Santos is looking nice
Loved this!! It says it all and I felt all the feels. I'm sorry the person this is dedicated to, Brad Allen was so young when he died. Beautiful tribute!
The lesson of the story? Historically, king fu originates from Los Angeles
@Edwardo Edwardo
'kung fu' originated in South India. An Indian monk travelling through china taught it to chinese monks to defend themselves from local raiders.
Youre welcome! 😁
@Feral Kat It actually originated in Egypt. And was taught to other people. The goal was to spread Compassion, through self-defense. 😊👍
@@feralkat9370 wow thank you 😊 for a interesting fact, but you didn't say what year was this, because when I tell my brother he will ask me what year 😉.
Couple things:
1. His disciples are extremely disrespectful to him while they’re training
2. Why isn’t he in prison if he stabbed his buddy to death?
Homage to the last dragon. Bruce Leroy. Great short I wish it was full length feature. Bravo!
This was very well made . Never to late to change to a better path is the lesson I got from this. Make an effort to do the right thing. GREAT WORK was put into this
such a good movie, it is so rare that good vs bad ends with a peace whithout destroying one side.
I was engaged the whole time, and the end fight scene was very well done! Ass kicking Kung fu action, with likeable characters. Well done! Start a series!!
Entertaining, believably unbelievable, and aesthetically pleasing fight sequence
This was way too good!! I really wanna see more martial arts movies with Tarell.
I like the ending song by Bournique Rolle, Dream for US....it kind of pulled the emotional care for others or the 'Hommies' together. Looking out for each other in a compassionate Shaolin way.
I couldn't find this music anywhere. Do you happen to know the name of the album that has it?
@@marcosbarros3592 ...No...I tried looking it up by his name and then by the name of the song...no luck. Perhaps someone knows and will tell us 🤞🏾
This was such a masterpiece. The fight choreography was beautiful
This gave me the Last Dragon vibes. Thanks for the movie!!
A top shelf production teaching that life is about self respect, dignity and the epiphany of redemption. All the actors were superb.
I didn't expect much coming in, but I am pleasantly surprised that it's so good. My only gripe is the dialogue felt forced at times.
Karma with a twist. Loved this short. Everything done right.
11:57 bruh the roles do really be reversed here😂
Man this was so good. The fighting sense were definitely on par with great movies. Was worth watching frfr
This was amazingly done! Thank you.
The fight choreography is INCREDIBLE. 😎⭐👍
I loved that so much, so well done. Was really fun to watch- and those bloopers 😂
This was great a classic short. Great job cast and crew. So many layers well written. Based on a true story. Vietnamese caught hell like all of us in the minority catch it at any given time we learn the hard way sometimes we have more in common than any of our differences.
Couldn't he just call the cops?
You serious? 💀
The most important thing in martial arts is forgiveness. Respect from India
GOD this was amazing!! Such a profoundly POWERFUL message in this. This was something I really needed to see!!!
I really enyoyed this film. I appreciate how this film remains true to both Kung Fu Film traditions of morality and the sensibility of Urban contemporary drama with an authentic feel of the LA streets. Congrats to all the filmmakers who contributed to this project. I would love to see more.
I’d have to say that this film is one of the best films I’ve seen on Omeleto. Powerful gesture of respect for the master at the end.
i was unexpectedly surprised that i loved this so much…i wish gangs would go b as ok to no gun fighting only…fr
that must be the most well made martial arts video i've ever seen in my life
Sho-nuff monk..Gotta love it..🤸
Really enjoyed it, with the budget you had I thought its better than some of the action films I've seen lately. Had a meaning to the story which is so relevant 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
@20:03 lmao @ the guy on the right side's reaction to T.
I love team red pro. Their afro samurai vs samurai champloo short is legendary!! Really happy I stumbled upon this!!!!! Amazing choreography as usual with a nice storyline.
This is marvellous. Well done to all involved.
👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 A true Martial Arts tale.
Great final fight scene, and the disarming of the gun was super slick.
if you want beef then bring the ruckus..
Man that horse stance is so nice!
I got charged
This is what karate kid should of been like
No. Karate Kid is exactly what it needed to be.
👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 absolutely amazing!!! Can't wait to see more.
Wow, Nice... Thank you for this, for some reason watching this someone must have been cutting onions because real men don't tear up...
Loved it, the martial club was one of my fist subscriptions on the tube. Thought it was very similar and has great action. then I noticed Joseph Le's name in the credits and knew why it was so awesome.
asian dude funny asf😂😂
Wow this was amazing. It would be spectacular as a full length movie as well. Who needs Amazon Prime when we have Omeleto.
Im just discovering Omeleto this evening. This is the 6th video ive watched.
They've all been better than triple A movies.
Props to the cast here! you have to be pretty damn good at kung fu to pull off this kind of choreography!
This was pretty good Joseph Le one good story and script screen play with great fight scenes and you're on your way.
Great job I found y’all on instagram I had to find this movie we need a part 2
WOW that was really good. Excellent story, Excellent acting, excellent message. I really enjoyed that
Brilliant AF!!! This was powerful!.
Loved the action, fight scenes were excellent. The dialogue was not it. Felt forced and a little inauthentic. Loved the premise of the film though. A little rework of the dialogue would take this film to the next level.
Loved it! Takes me back to 1985s Cult Classic “The Last Dragon!” T even looks and acts like Leroy Green. Superb acting and fight scenes. Nostalgic fireworks going off right now
Quality! Thanks.
This made me cry and giggle a little… this was another good one ☝️ ❤❤❤❤❤❤
This was like some Gran Torino-Karate Kid combination type thing.
I was entertained. Great casting. This was refreshing. I’m looking forward to when y’all get a bigger budget. Build on this.
Yeah just watched this twice in a row…MASTERPIECE!
Never bring a handgun to a Kung Fu fight...
T took matters into his own hands and he lost his best friend, 20 years later takes on students and his past comes crawling back.
What a wonderful story. And the fight scene are top notch
Is that a toilet without any walls? LOL
Is this really how gangs act? 🤨
Wish there could be a series about this.
i really liked this, the choreography and emotion was well done, great moral to the story too =)
Mastering the art of fighting without fighting iz a master killing 👊👊

Preciosa , que buena persona. Me ha echo llorar , tengo dos hijos adolescentes . Hay que ser fiel , bueno y consecuente , no matar son los hijos de alguien.
