I knew as soon as I heard the music at the beginning of the video why kind of video this was gonna be and I LOVED every second of it! I was cracking up the whole time!! I love you for this Tom. Thank you for making this video. You’re my hero. 👌🏼
Me and my buddy just returned from a week of fishing in Quebec for walleye (10 Mile Lodge). We were presented with a situation where all of our typical spots were baron, water levels were higher than normal, fish were just off. We went into the basin that is between 80-120 feet of water and nothing was being picked up with down imaging except the odd mark. We switched to Live Scope (Garmin) and were amazed what we were picking up. Schools of fish only 15 feet down, 60-80 feet in front of the boat, in 80-100 feet of water that were scattering as we were getting closer, and not being picked up on down imaging. We were starting (with fall) seeing lots of debris in the water (pine needles, leaves etc) and so on side imaging we couldn't really trust what we were seeing on the display. So trusting the live scope, we set out crankbaits (Bandits) with long leads and trolled them fast (2.7-3mph) over the basin and then bang bang bang ..... fish after fish. FFS is a tool, you still need to be competent in making the right decisions based on the information that is presented to you. Great content Tom.
Tom, I don't really care how people fish; having said that, I'm not a big proponent of FFS, but to each their own. I do miss your videos about how to catch fish the way you did before you started using FFS. I learned a lot from that. Love your channel, and I'll continue to watch.
I completely agree with this, I'm gonna bet 60% of his viewers don't even have a ffs system. It's tough to use some of his technics when he's looking at the fish, and the others cant.
@daveulrich4623 well technically, I'm not going hungry without it. I catch enough for me to have fish fries every weekend, (I only fish on weekends). I've learned everything I know from basically Tom Alone just using side imagine, long as I know what's down there, I can figure out the rest :).
The biggest thing I learned when I started using FFS is how many fish are down there that just won't bite. (I use mine mainly for crappie fishing, just FYI.) Just cuz you can see them doesn't make them bite. I see a bunch that just follow or ignore the bait altogether. So it saves me time by eliminating water and not wasting time on disinterested fish. People think that just cuz you can SEE the fish means you CATCH the fish. That simply isn't true. I haven't heard of ONE person who has invested in FFS and then later got rid of it because they realized it's ruining fisheries!! lol
Tom!! I can’t believe that you are out fishing in a motorized boat and locators!! And using 3 rods with 2 hooks on each line??!!! Disgusting abuse of the legal system! 🤣😂. Keep up the great work Tom!! Also loving all the subliminal messages to the haters!!!
Love for sarcasm Tom!! Can't make everyone happy! I have FFS along with SI and DI, so love all the videos. Can't stop watching and learning no matter what technology is being used.
Absolutely LOVE the music and blatant point that you can catch walleye with anything and nothing. Love the humor. Keep it going. That’s for a great one.
We all know bait selection, rigging, and depth precision is a skill a walleye angler needs to catch fish this way. He was being slick about it's so easy anyone can do this and catch fish. Not everyone can do this. Would be a bit easier on a small wisconsin lake tho where u can cover most of the basin in a half day. still totally different than ffs. Watching your bait go rite down to the fishes face and watch him eat it. Still no comparisons
Thnkz for the great video tom! This is how ive been fishing for walleye for the past few years now. Ever since i went to Lake of the Woods out of Zipple Bay Resort, i went out in a Carter boat and thats how he set us up was with a clip on weight and worm harness, thats when i learned worms work great for walleye, had no idea till then. Then watching and learning from you with learning how to read contour and where i might find them, i do fairly decent when ever i go out now. Thank you! Last weekend i went to Lake Vermillion for the first time ever, because i watched your latest video at Vermillion. My father and i, sunday afternoon Limited out in 15 mins after i found a school stacked up on top of a massive boulder, though it took 4 hour's to find them though lol. And i dont even have ffs, just side imaging. 😊
Absolutely amazing video, as many others have said, the sarcasm was fantastic. Well done and definitely proves the point. Good to see you and some of the other prominent youtube fishing channels doing these vids. I hope you do a couple more similar vids to really hammer the point home, and give us some more laughs, obviously.
Tom, I love the creativity and sarcasm of this video. I think for me, the concerns I have about FFS is the undeniable increase in efficiency it provides low skill level anglers, like myself. I understand that the top-level angler like you, the Hoyers, the Lindners, etc. are going to catch fish regardless of the technology, or the amount of rods, etc. But for a novice angler like me, I can say with 100% confidence that FFS has increased my catch rate significantly. Now, increased catch rates are not a bad thing on paper. We still have legal limits and a lot of anglers practice catch and release. Where I am concerned, is that some of these fish are being pulled from 28+ feet. If anyone that can buy FFS, and a lot of people do, can increase their catch rates in the deeper water, what impact is that going to have on the fisheries. There is no way we can confidently say barotrauma is fake, I don't care what people want to say, we have all seen where you reel up a walleye or a crappie from 30ft of water and it's swim bladder is out of it's mouth or you throw a fish back and it comes back up. In my opinion, this is the real threat that FFS poses. BUT, in order to make the accusation that FFS is a threat to the fisheries on the "barotrauma" idea or delayed mortality, we need to understand it as an angler community, and yet it seems like we just are so quick to say that it isn't real and not a concern. Taking this one step further, in the musky world, we are seeing people sharpshooting muskies and putting up unprecedented numbers of boated fish on lakes that are notoriously difficult. These aren't just guides either. Again, catching more fish isn't my issue. My concern is how many of these fish are going to die from barotrauma, mishandling, etc. and what can the population sustain. Prior to FFS, the top guides were boating 100-150 fish/season, now I know weekend warriors catching 4-8 fish a night. I just feel that this FFS divide in the fishing world is too opiniated and the actual discussions are not being had. You are either for FFS or you are not and I don't think that is going to result in any valuable progress in the sport.
I should preface that I have FFS and I love it, but I still have concerns about it's impact on the fisheries in the long term due to increased catch rates in deep water.
Some health issues kept me off the water this year. Hoping for some ice fishing. Always enjoy your videos with morning coffee. Your skills inspire! Really appreciate your handling of trolls rofl... I don't have all the gear you do but everything you do helps me get better.
Tom great video as always! I have those Humminbirds on my boat. The increased technology and higher pixel count have really improved the side imaging visibility. What mounts/brackets are you using for the birds and the rod holders? Keep up the great content. Thanks.
This has to be one of the best video's I've watched! Old school fishing, with a side of sarcasm... but now, those people will now want side imaging banned.. oh no! 🎣
Tom, bottom line is this my friend. You are an exceptional Angler. You fish, for the most part, high pressure waters and still catch fish. In my view to use or not to use FFS is a personal choice. It's like any tool, it can INCREASE your odds of catching fish but is not an absolute. If choose to show it on your channel and use it with a view to educate older anglers like myself then do it. I have been fishing for longer than you have been alive and you and Nick Linder are my absolute favorite RUclips Anglers who actually learn from. Bottom line is you Sir can catch a fish with broom handle and rope. If you are interested I talk a bit about my view on the topic on my latest video called 'Hump City Light bite' at around the 11:30min Mark. Dont worry dude, I am far from competition. I Just do it for fun. Thanks for doing what you do. Your friendly Canadian Walleye Hunter!CHEERS !
There are millions of videos for FREE on youtube... I'll never get why people complain to the person giving them free entertainment or tips / advice. Just move on, you clicked man... It's like 10 people offering you a free meal, you choose one on your own, then tell the person they suck for what they made, or what ingredients they used. Keep em coming, Tom!
This is your best video of the year. Great humor and I know you don’t want to hear it, but nice not to watch FFS! It would be cool to see you do both in same day. Go from trolling spinners to casting with FFS and seen if you could have got some bigger ones or what the difference in presentation on the same day would have produced. Tight lines 🤙
New merch idea for Contour Fishing Clothing Co. line...hats and t shirts..."Stop Cheating", "Ban FFS!", "Stop the insanity!" ("Make Fishing Great Again")
I love the tongue in cheek nature of this video, right off the bat. Cruise control... auto pilot...3 lines....almost like you're cheating. Reminds of Uncut Angling. Making good points, FFS is just the most recent thing for haters to hate. And fwiw, I don't have FFS. In fact, all I have is a Garmin Striker 4. I think it's still entirely possible to become a better angler watching all Tom's older videos. He hasnt taken them down.
I love fishing deep, clear natural lakes. I really like your analysis. If you can, it would great if you could give the water temp. and depth you are fishing (plus time of year) in every video, it would be very helpful. Thank you. I love Wisconsin. I plan to die there.
I troll plugs and have the same success by the fish clears the screen there will be a fish on. Also, predicted on what fish will bite the way it looks on solid. It's awesome way to fish.
I have no issues with any technology you use, and I don't think other people do either (maybe I'm naive). I think what some people assume is that because of advanced technology it enables fisherman to 'keep' too many fish, thus negatively impacting the resource. I never see you keep fish and you are always promoting selective harvesting, which I appreciate. But the fishing guide business is 'big business' in some areas and they rely on happy customers - which means putting meat in their customers' freezers. Most guides that I know are great with only keeping a few, but there are a few bad ones that keep everything. The video is a little passive-aggressive for my taste, but still funny. Keep up the good work!!! Come to Brainerd, MN, and fish!!
Thanks for all the knowledge on your walleye app. I really don't understand stand all the hate, people cant appreciate anything now days just way to much hate out there. How about get out there enjoy the sunrise on the lake or sunset and appreciate what we have. Great videos Tom and keep being you !
Tom! just passed you outside of Hayward by the casino good luck fishing today love all your videos I own been doin it Construction red and white writing on truck look me up if you need any home repair!!
Love the sarcasm, LOL. IMO the biggest issue with FFS is that those who would benefit the most (beginner/ lower skilled anglers) can't afford it and those who can (pro fishermen) already have the skills to not need it.. I like to compare it to baiting for deer.. good hunters don't need it, but it's great for people who are lazy/ only care about putting meat in the freezer ;)
Love it just love it. I would say most of the fisherman that have ffs are the fisherman who really do it, mainly those who would out fish you 5 to 1 with or without it, and haters gonna hate.
One of my favorite ways to fish.. although in minnesota we only get one line. Not cheating with three.. lol..we just have two bring ppl with hilarious vid Tom.. I've never used a snap weight tho. Will definitely try.. dang weeds..
Tom I love your videos. I’ve been trolling for Walleyes my whole life, but I’ve caught more Northern than any other fish, so I must be doing something wrong. My go to was always double hook crawler harnesses with spinners. I’ve recently switched to no 7 Shad Rapps and have had some luck trolling Shads on West Okoboji at 1.8 mph. Any tips would be appreciated. Love your videos. I’m definitely subscribed
Live scope or forward facing sonar in general is not cheating. Side imaging, 2d, and down imaging is not cheating . Watching Tom Boley and the walleye Now app is 😂! I’m just be sarcastic as all get out, and this may be in my opinion the second best walleye video Tom put out, and Mitchell was no where to be found! Love the content Tom and keep up the hard work and the walleye fishing knowledge that you bring! If watching your videos help me catch more fish, then I guess people can call me a cheater
What types of spinners are best? There are so many out there, I was a bucket mouth fisherman in Bama, and now in Montana just starting my love for walleye fishing. I purchased a 619vs just so I can enjoy the peace and passion. So yeah any tips you have or done that works best I am interested
Love the sarcasm & fishing more older school and proving it works. Maybe if fisheries did a better job of stocking walleyes & forage species like ND's freshwater shrimp to get up to size the high pressured waters of WI the fishery could improve to a leech lake like status in more WI bodies of water.
Tom the electronics don't lie...:), but I will say you have an definite advantage with more lines in the water. In Ontario Canada we can only use one line per person except for winter fishing. But if your a new Canadian you can use a NET and wade into streams and increase your success rate. The MNR will let them do that!!! with no consequences. Thanks for your hard work in producing these vids. I'm heading out this morning in my boat and one line. Peace out dude.
Perfect takedown of the Luddite crowd. I don't use anything more than a Garmin Striker 4 out of a canoe and a Vex FL-8 on the ice and I don't disparage those with the newer tech.
Nice smart-ass video(lol)! I would really like to have seen the mega live turned on alongside all the other units showing what that technique looked like pulling spinners on live! Enjoyed the video!
Experienced fishermen, who have caught a lot of fish with minimal electronics, are really opposed to forward-facing sonar, in large part because they simply can't justify the expense. Also, there has always been an "art" to fishing, and a lot of folks (righfully?) feel like FFS has turned that art into a scientific digital process, and they're most certainly not wrong. Combine it with the remarkable advancements in trolling motors and a lot of the skill and experience you used to need has been replaced by technology. You said, "It almost feels like cheating..." and that's exactly how a lot of viewers see it. Personally, I don't think art and technology are mutually exclusive, but I definitely understand how side-imaging, FFS, and the modern trolling motor have removed a lot of the challenges we used to face.
The only people complaining about FFS are people that either can’t afford it or have bought it and can’t / won’t take the time to figure it out. Limits are limits and it’s up to responsible anglers to manage the fish population. I promise you the guys spending $10,000+ on electronics are not the ones keeping double limits and raping the system every day.
FFS is completely crap! If everyone was using it - good luck with your walleye populations! Im on a lake in the summer where we are mostly fishing old school electronics and if you catch two in an evening… great! Often one or none. A new guy on the lake has FFS and catches his limit in the same area in an hour or less! Every time…. He keeps his limit each time and sometimes fishes for fun afterwards- catch and release. Imagine all the other 5 or 6 boats in the same area doing the same every day like him!😤
The problem with technology is not the fact you catch more fish, it's that too many keep everything they catch. you gotta release fish. It doubles or triples their value and preserves the fishery. Right now, guys are keeping 13" walleyes by the hundreds on lake reno. It's gotta stop. It is really hard to do with the current "fill the freezer "mentality but once you start doing it, it's really easy to keep doing it.
It’s cool, but some people can’t afford it or don’t want to buy it and it’s just nice to see people catching Fish without the extra electronics so it gives us more tactics right that’s all it is or they’re just haters. I like it all if I had the money, I would buy it right now.
Hey Tom, tell Mitch I say hello, there’s a lake in Sawyer county that is supposed to have some beast walleye but hard to catch, would you try it as a challenge?? I’ve had no luck
I work as an environment consultant..so i know what im talking about... and am an avid fisherman ... my problem is not with the tech... my problem is how many people are abusing that tech to destroy our resources... I regularly have witnessed people using ffs and leaving with two-three times their limit... and you try to report them and get told there is no one available to respond... I'm not saying it didn't happen before ffs, but the problem is it has made the problem 10 times worse... and then these are the same guys who complain that their best lakes are now crap... Enjoy what little good fishing we have left because it's not going to be long before a trophy is going to be 12 inches, and a great day of fishing is going to be 3 fish days...
The "Karens" of the world will never be happy, fishing from a boat isn't fair either, you can reach spots that people without a boat can't. Your videos are great no matter what techniques or technologies you are using. I think they need to ban big motors because my boat can't do 90 mph...
FFS isn’t worth it for me. I live in a state that has huge walleye and no one fishes for them. Even an idiot like me can catch a couple dozen fish in a day with a couple packs of jig heads and plastics. And no, I don’t keep more than a few.
Tom the sarcasm had me dead, don’t stop. Haven’t laughed that much during a fishing video in I don’t know how long. Cheers man tight lines.

Tom! just passed you outside of Hayward by the casino good luck fishing today love all your videos I own been doin it Construction red and white writing on truck look me up if you need any home repair!!
Love the sarcasm, LOL. IMO the biggest issue with FFS is that those who would benefit the most (beginner/ lower skilled anglers) can't afford it and those who can (pro fishermen) already have the skills to not need it..
I like to compare it to baiting for deer.. good hunters don't need it, but it's great for people who are lazy/ only care about putting meat in the freezer ;)
next level sarcasm Tommy, loved it
Love it just love it. I would say most of the fisherman that have ffs are the fisherman who really do it, mainly those who would out fish you 5 to 1 with or without it, and haters gonna hate.
Nice fish Tom . Killer presentation . Great video 👍
Most Genius/hilarious way to communicate the truth to the unnecessary drama
Hahah back to the old days baby ! Great video man nailed it 👌🏾 people are key board warriors now a days
Seems to me you’re the keyboard warrior
Live scope or forward facing sonar in general is not cheating. Side imaging, 2d, and down imaging is not cheating .
Watching Tom Boley and the walleye Now app is 😂!
I’m just be sarcastic as all get out, and this may be in my opinion the second best walleye video Tom put out, and Mitchell was no where to be found!
Love the content Tom and keep up the hard work and the walleye fishing knowledge that you bring!
If watching your videos help me catch more fish, then I guess people can call me a cheater
I have learned a lot from watching your videos ! Thank you, and keep up the good work 👍
What types of spinners are best?
There are so many out there, I was a bucket mouth fisherman in Bama, and now in Montana just starting my love for walleye fishing.
I purchased a 619vs just so I can enjoy the peace and passion. So yeah any tips you have or done that works best I am interested
Absolutely LOVE the facetious, sarcasm! 😅😂😅
Tom, does a great job, fun, and helpful, wish, I could fish with,
Love it! Keep it up. Don't give in to the haters.
Best videos! Please do a Green Bay fall side-imaging beat down like this one!
What are you using for trolling reels.
Love the sarcasm & fishing more older school and proving it works.
Maybe if fisheries did a better job of stocking walleyes & forage species like ND's freshwater shrimp to get up to size the high pressured waters of WI the fishery could improve to a leech lake like status in more WI bodies of water.
Can you do some low flow river bites? I can't seem to get dialed in this fall.
Lol! Love the snark…nice video Tom.
Great video Tom! Love the sarcasm! Maybe we should ban everything and just fish with some line tied to a stick. 😂
You Do a fantastic great job , love your videos & tips 🎣👍
Thanks for the video Tom. Keep mixing them up. Everyone benefits.
💯
No, they're the ones "releasing" a bunch of catch and release kills at 10x the normal rate.
@@Superkuh2 wrong.
Imagine all the other 5 or 6 boats in the same area doing the same every day like him!😤
@@RB-oc7ti imagine catching a limit every single day without ffs. Limit is a limit. I don’t get your point.
Ha! Love this one. I like all your videos, even your ffs ones 😊
Good stuff as always sir.
Well said Tom! I agree!!
To funny Tom!! I really think your Helix with side scan should be Banned!!! 😂🤣😂Awesome🎣🎣
Fishing with a trolling motor and outboard motor feels like cheating....undecided if rod and reels are cheating or not as well😂 keep slayin tom!
More research will be needed.... However early evidence suggests rods and reels are far more effective than hand lining. Might as well ban it now
Perfect.....Put them in their place. Love your videos!
It’s cool, but some people can’t afford it or don’t want to buy it and it’s just nice to see people catching Fish without the extra electronics so it gives us more tactics right that’s all it is or they’re just haters. I like it all if I had the money, I would buy it right now.
Can’t love this video enough 👏
Bravo!!! well done.
Hilarious! Well done! I totally agree.
Hey Tom, tell Mitch I say hello, there’s a lake in Sawyer county that is supposed to have some beast walleye but hard to catch, would you try it as a challenge?? I’ve had no luck
Great content! Keep it going!🤘
Need more videos like this I love it 🤣
Good stuff Tom
Hahaha THIS is a great video! Love it!
Are you running dual transducers for your side imaging?
The "Karens" of the world will never be happy, fishing from a boat isn't fair either, you can reach spots that people without a boat can't. Your videos are great no matter what techniques or technologies you are using. I think they need to ban big motors because my boat can't do 90 mph...
FFS isn’t worth it for me. I live in a state that has huge walleye and no one fishes for them. Even an idiot like me can catch a couple dozen fish in a day with a couple packs of jig heads and plastics. And no, I don’t keep more than a few.
Do you have any information on snap weight / speed as to the depth of a spinner?
Loved the video and message!
Thanks for watching!
