    been doing cichlids for 40 years, was 1 of the first people to get rid of the under gravel filter system at 8 ;-) I never do water change just water add and filter clean outs every 3 months or so ... I feed & watch mostly ;-) again over 40 years

    Mbunas also love to dig and rearrange the sand, making hills and valleys so please provide a thick layer of sand. They are so cool to watch and see the landscape change from day to day.

    Great vid as usual jay one thing to add would be aeration wave maker, airstone, point outputs to top of water etc. you know the deal. your definitely one of the best on you tube at making these informational vids your tanks looking great as always looking forward to seeing the new pickups.

    Awesome vid I definitely agree with filtration only been doing this for 1year 1/2 and my tanks that do the best are over filtrated. I am using good food (ZHF)but when I use what NLS and YFS I have left it makes my tanks a mess....So good food is a BIG part of it a guy I use to get fish from used cheap food and my fish was 3 times bigger and had way more color and they were from same strain.

    Great job with the video :) Excellent presentation. Still in the planning deco wise but know it's Mbuna for me. Have 2 55gal stacked both are over 25 yrs old so size is set. Top tank predominate Angels. Bottom preparing for Mbuna.

    It’s funny you mention it in the video. If only I watched this a week ago. Just bought a brand new 60 gallon tank and stand. Sand is my substrate. Well my magnet cleaner got a little grain of sand stuck in it and I went to clean the glass and screeeeeech big ok scratches on my 1 week old 60 gallon aquarium... I didn’t even get fish in it before something went wrong jeeez

    Thank you for the info but what I was wondering is which of the filters that you have is the one that told me bio is it the sun sun also I mean I have a lot of questions but one that is important it is when you're doing the maintenance and the filters are you doing all of them at once or like one a week

    I hate canister filters. Sump is the way to go. Great video BTW.

    great tips , cool vid , i also use carib seas african cichlid mix , but i use the original and the congo river mixed i have 120lbs in a 90gal overkill , i say NAAAAAAAAAAAH lol,, the other day i thought , why don't i ty some sand in my small 15gall what a nightmare that was , its like impossible to get no sand in in the hose while vaccuing the sand , so glad i switch to ACM 3 years ago

    Good job J, should be very informative for rookies. Any thoughts on putting together a generalized vid on canister filter setup strategy. Would be nice to see a detailed approach from someone that has been there / done that. Not sure if you have done this in the past.

    I have a 250g acrylic Tank That I built, I could build a much larger Tank (650G 10F long 3F depth and 3F in height, will go in the same place perfect!) but I calculate how much it would cost me to heat the tank and i given up on the idea lol so I went for 250 gallons
    And by the way I use a sump with a 2000 gallon return pump

    I like to ask if I stack up a lot if rocks, do I need a piece of eggcrate on the bottom of the tank to support the glass because the rock is too heavy?

    Nice video Jay a lot of good info. You should of talk a little about how important that you go though the nitrogen cycle before you put any fish in the tank.

    this mate was a great video... think I will strongly consider back up sunsun cannisters. Stick with haps n peacocks until I settle in and master african cichlid water parameters. Matrix is becoming more affordable here in Oz but will check out the pond matrix too.....:)

    Hey Jay, straight up question.. i see your rocks have brown algae on them, is that from the actinic light? i get that brown algae in my tank whenever i use actinic, not when i use a 12k 'exotic pro panorama led' on my Brichardi tank.. i read online, actinic in the 450mm to 460mm range promotes algae. is that true? i have a current 14k/453 light. will they give me brown algae??

    Thx for the quick response..... I have one more for ya. In one of your videos u were talking about chemi pure blue I use the product too. In both of my canisters Did u say to put poly fill under the chemi pure an then on top as well ??? I have Rena filstar lg canisters So good bacteria sits in the middle basket. Then the purigen An chemi. Then the floss So floss under the chemi an on top as well ? Thx jay

    i love my bare buttom tank and wavemaker facing down. It keeps my aquarium super clean.
