I would just like to add that maybe Custard not being able to convince himself that he was brave was not the case, and he knew of his capabilities, but just didn't want to argue with the other litlle pets....maybe he was contended in knowing that he was brave and strong, and did not need consolidation from others regarding that....He was a wise dragon who loved his companions and just wanted to keep them happy by assuring them that they were braver than him. And perhaps he did not want to harm them mistakenly while playing, for he knew that he was too fierce for the others.... that's why he wanted a cage
