Another vote for Go Rest High on That Mountain by Vince. Everything by him is great. Now you know why they use a lap steel guitar in country music. It sounds like it is crying.
He started writing the song when his brother passed away. He put it away because he couldn't finish the song. When Keith Whitley passed away it gave Vince the inspiration to finish the song.
That’s wrong. He wrote It won’t be the same without you - for his brother Go rest high was written for Keith Whitley. The lyrics are about Keith’s struggle with alcoholism and his song I’m no stranger to the rain. Gills brother died years after a car crash that left him in a coma with TBI.

The lady harmonizing with him is an amazing artist in her own right. Her name is Patty Loveless, and her voice is absolutely stunning. I recommend her for Female Friday. Please listen to her songs 'How Can I Help You Say Goodbye' and 'Here I Am'. You will not be disappointed!
Also "Nothing But The Wheel". The steel guitar coming in when she describes the color of the sky and the fiddle on the solo always send chills down my back. Now THAT'S music!!!
"Here I Am" was written by the same guy who wrote Garth Brooks' "The Dance" - Tony Arata's songs have a somewhat different feel to them but still have that same country soul to them.
That wonderful blue grass female you hear harmonizing with him has been doing it most of her life. The two are cousins and grew up knowing each other. She is Patty Loveless and has many hits of her own.
“Go Rest High On That Mountain” is one of the greatest songs ever written. You need to listen to the first version with Ricky Skaggs and Patty Loveless, who is singing the harmonies on this. Vince Gill is one of my all time favorites. He can play the guitar like no other. I have seen him live 3 times and he sounds just like this. He started in a rock band called Pure Prairie League and is currently touring with the Eagles.

Not exactly true. Vince has been in the music business a long time. He was with the pop country group Pure Prarie League in the early 80s. They had at least two big pop hits in 1980 and they were both written by Vince. He also had a big country hit around 86 or 87 with a song entitled Cinderella. It's true that this song and the album it came from was his first mega hit but he had plenty of success before this.

I agree with the comments saying react to "Go Rest High On That Mountain"... one of the best songs ever... I love it when Vince sang it at George Jones's funeral... he was in tears!! Very emotional and awesome!!
Amber will need a tissue
I loved that Patty stepped up and covered for him when it got too emotional for him to continue. Singing the song for his good friend George brought up all kinds of emotions about his brother.
Patty Lovless sings with him. This is one of my favorites to sing at karaoke. And yes I can hit those notes.
PLEASE, PLEASE PLEASE do a reaction video to this singer I accidentally stumbled across recently. He BLEW me AWAY with his God-given, talented voice: JJ Grey and Mofro. The song that you MUST listen to is “Brighter Days!” It’s absolutely breathtaking from the moment he opens his mouth. He is SOOOO AMAZING AND TALENTED AND HUMBLE AND his voice is soooo SOULFUL! If you don’t choose to react to this song and singer, YOU WILL BE MAKING A BIG BIG BIG MUSTAKE!
VG is just pure country perfection. Sounds so good.
"Go Rest High On That Mountain" by Vince Gill .... trust me....listen to it...but prepare yourself
Another vote for “Go Rest High On That Mountain”. Do the official video with Patty Loveless (harmonizing on this song) and Ricky Skaggs. Truly an amazingly beautiful song.
and def have those boxes of tissue handy.
But don’t listen in the car days after your dad passes - you won’t be able to drive because of the tears!! 😭
Vince Gill has one of the best voices in country music history
One of the greatest songs I have ever heard. Vince Gill’s voice is so amazing on his own but add Patty Loveless ‘s voice and together they are truly out of this world.
"I Still Believe In You" is another amazing Vince song.. he just has SO many, though! And the song you referenced, "Down to the River to Pray" was Alison Krauss, who just happens to sing with Vince on "Go Rest High on that Mountain" along with bluegrass star, Ricky Skaggs - check out the LIVE version to hear why he wrote the song. Thanks for the great reactions Jay and Amber! : - )
Alison is not on Go Rest High. It is Patty Loveless who is the same person singing backup on this song
@@JonHolida2 It wasn't the recorded version I was referring to.. it was this one in the link...! ruclips.net/video/NwFiWCUkk4M/видео.html

Wasn’t considering the recorded version but this particular one ruclips.net/video/NwFiWCUkk4M/видео.html
But thank you as another fan!
He wrote ‘Go Rest High On That Mountain’ for his brother’s funeral, brilliant, moving song.
Vince Gill is one if the best singers out there plus an all around good guy. I have never heard anyone say anything against him. Check out Go Rest High On That Mount for some more feels. He was writing it in memory of Keith Whitley who had passed, and then his brother passed too. The song ended up being in memory of them both. There's also a video of him singing it at George Jones' funeral. It will bring a tear to a glass eye.
Welcome 🙏 too Vince Gill...I swear he's an angel..
Vince is also a very underrated guitarist and is now in the band "Eagles" a true musician who can do it all!!
World class guitar virtuoso. And as Chet Atkins said: not a bad singer either.
@@karlpatterson8437 Vince one of the best pickers of all time....any genre
Patty Loveless was singing the background vocals. She's on a lot of his tracks. She definitely has some songs you'll want to check out at some point.
Patty is simply the best!
they're harmonies are some of the best i have ever heard in any genre of music
She and Vince sang Go Rest High on That Mountain at George Jones' funeral. Talk about heartbreaking!!!
You should listen to How Great Thou Are by Carrie Underwood and Vince Gill
You'll never leave Harlan alive is one of many of her songs.
Patty Loveless on harmony. She's another artist you can go down a rabbit hole on. She is Loretta Lynn's distant cousin. You MUST watch the two of them perform "Go Rest High On That Mountain" at George Jone's funeral.
The voice .... the voice! He has such a talent that he needs to share.
His voice is piercing it goes straight to the heart
I'm 74. I set up some sound in Park City, Utah about 1986. I was stunned by his voice. Welcome to the club!
@Vince Gill Official Inbox I don't mind you adding me. I would be honored!
"Let There Be Peace On Earth" is another beautiful song he does.
Patty Loveless on backup vocals is amazing.
Vince is now a member of the Eagles! I got to see them live and imagine his voice singing some Eagles classics. One of the best guitarists in county as well
One of my all time favourites from Vince is ‘Look at Us’. If you’re not crying by the end your heart is stone. His voice is smooth and mournful, you can’t help but feel the song. And the steel guitar solo?? Wow.
Nobody can whine like Vince he make you feel every single note he's singing
There's a reason that SO many country artists get him to sing harmony on their songs. His voice is one of the greatest of all time.
This song always makes me cry
Vince Gill and Patty Loveless are just magic together. You should check out some of her songs. One of my favorites by her is “Nothing but the Wheel”. ❤️
Vince Gill and Patty Loveless together are angelic. Absolutely beautiful song and harmony.
Vince and Patty Loveless are magic!
