  • Keynote address in Providence College’s Theological Exchange Between Catholics and Jews Lecture Series
In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Vatican II Document Nostra Aetate
An acknowledged leader in fostering Jewish-Catholic dialogue in the U.S., Cardinal Dolan brings a singular perspective and sharp insights to the discussion of issues of the future of dialogue between these vital faith communities. We hope you will join us for this special event, part of Providence College’s yearlong centennial celebration.
Providence College has actively promoted Catholic and Jewish engagement throughout its history. PC’s Theology Department established the Jewish-Catholic Theological Exchange (JCTE) committee in 2007 and has continued to extend opportunities for Jews and Christians to pursue mutual learning, understanding, and friendship by hosting lectures, colloquia, and other initiatives. These events provide a welcoming forum where members of the college join the Rhode Island community, to engage with local religious leaders and nationally recognized experts to discuss themes of mutual theological interest. In continuity with Providence College’s long-standing tradition, JCTE promotes interreligious understanding and dialogue in the spirit of the Second Vatican Council’s Declaration on the Relation of the Church to Non-Christian Religions (Nostra Aetate), which radically redefined the Jewish-Christian relationship in positive ways.
The lecture and colloquium series Theological Exchange Between Catholics and Jews brings local and nationally-recognized experts to Providence College for two major events each academic year: a lecture in the Fall semester featuring a speaker on a theme relevant to Judaism or Jewish-Christians relations; and a "public dialogue" in the Spring semester between two nationally-recognized experts -- one Jewish and one Catholic - who discuss together a specific issue in Jewish-Christian relations. PC faculty, students, and local clergy are invited to participate in a colloquium discussion with these experts as an opportunity to delve more deeply into the current issues that define Jewish-Christian relations.
