If you want a REAL treat... go check out the video Matt Parker released on his Stand Up Maths channel: ruclips.net/video/h9FZgaPdIuY/видео.html
The night before this eclipse we had dinner together and he explained all about the cycles that determine when eclipses happen! He delivers all this information in one take DURING the eclipse! Impressive.
Right away!
SmarterEveryDay will do! I love your vids so much!!
Thanks again for our impromptu double date! Was great to see the rest of your joint adventure. And as always: thanks a lot for raising the bar on science videos (and relationship goals).
What was that AR app that you used?
@@standupmaths He put his wife on his shoulders! You know what that means...time for some wife on shoulders maths!
You're setting the bar too high for the rest of us.
Don't let your wife watch this channel. Problem solved.
I'm going to use a solar eclipse vacation as a proposal background and say something along the lines like "I ask for your hand in marriage with the sun and moon as my engagement ring to you..." at the exact moment the total eclipse happens.
@@InvntdXNEWROMAN She'll still want a ring, give them the moon, sun and stars and they'll still want a diamond 🤷♂️👍
Lmfao, right?!! 😂
@@GaryGraham66 I'll have an engagement ring that I've forged myself. Still deciding on what stone to use since I'm against diamonds (personal reasons) and I think there are far prettier stones than diamonds anyway.
The Swiss guy is a professor in my city I knew I recognized him !!!
That's really neat! Could I ask what he teaches? 😊
You should tell him you saw him on this video!
Is he teaching at ETH or a other university? Never seen him at EPFL..
Cool
@@micahphilson I did not have him as a professor but he was in my college I think he is enjoying his retirement now hahaha
I'm from Argentina, so I loved the beginning. I laughed at the "colder than expected", loved your broken Spanish and your description of Provoleta ("It's Amazing")

Haha yeah I dated an Argentinian girl years ago so I learned some of the nuances but yeah when you see the top gear special it's crazy seeing all the snow and epic mountains of the region (it's too bad a handful of your crazy countrymen attacking them had to make you guys look bad, it was otherwise an amazing view of your country) but it was just a small group of nationalists butthurt about the Falklands, which top gear had nothing to do with haha, even though the war just a pointless excursion by a dictator trying to distract from his failings haha, one of the rare cases where Britain wasn't the one in the wrong in a spat over a colonial holding)
It was awesome to include your wife in this one. And of course great footage.
App: “observe planets and stars”
Destin: Kisses Wife.
Woo hoo ! Way to go, Destin!
Thank you destin please keep on making your awesome videos I could never be angry with a man like you who works to teach others a better way
Who says that Destin's wife wasn't the planets and stars he was looking at??
That beard is certainly an upgrade from your previous attempts.
I tried hard. I've been told I need to learn how to trim the mustache. Next year's beard will incorporate this strategy.
SmarterEveryDay It’s a cool beard dude!

Destin's wife : let's go to argentina to watch solar eclipse.
My wife after watching this video : It's our honey moon ❤let's go to the moon to watch earth eclipse.
That won't work; the earth is too large for someone standing on the moon to to see the sun at all when the earth casts a shadow on the moon....
@@danielhebard1865 no it is possible
the whole earth eclipse event will take around 14 days on the moon i guess? 😂
@@danielhebard1865 it will work. It would last several hours and the Earth would be ringed with a fiery red ring.
@@d4rk0v3 Interesting! I had no idea lol.
7:13 - Moon shadow run over whole sky
That impress me much more than eclipse-sunset to the mountains
yea I thought that was pretty amazing as well :D
i think it's probably because of polarization filter.
Aditya Gupta,
Polarization filter shouldn't do anything around Sun, it works on sky in perpendicular direction to Sun and around. I haven't check it on full eclipse, but I doubt there would be difference due to Moon.
yeah! how cool is that?

But he has a special way to convey emotions through videos that I humbly adore!
Ha-Lan it was cute like you
Destin, I was surprised to find myself becoming emotional about the fact that you two were sharing this amazing adventure together. Planning trips like this with your wife proves that you are obviously getting smarter every day...
Not only do you make literally some of my favorite content on here. But I love you and your family as genuine people. Thank you for what you do! 😊
Laminar flow. Grain bins. And now a total eclipse from Argentina. You really cover everything.Thank you.
What about D O M I N O S
I started watching a couple years ago because of the high speed explosions. I have never regretted it.
My life is very simple: Destin uploads a video. I watch it.
Did my favorite Rocket-scientist forget its winter in the southern hemisphere? I love you guys. Please take us with you on more of these adventures.
Feels so good to see you in my country man! Keep coming please. The best thing is to see you both so happy enjoying each other. Congratulations man, you inspire us in so many ways.
7:14 You can actually see the moon's shadow, that's sick.
Woaaaah dude ty that's so cool
Wooo! That was really COOL! I went back a few times in the video and also turn the playback speed to 0.5 and it was like... WOOOOOooooo!!!
That is the SHADOW of the Moon!
Thanks dude.

Wow! Nice spot! That was really cool!
@@XD-cl7mr No, I think he's referring to the shadow actually being visible move across the sky. You have to slow the video down to .5 or .25 to really see it. It's a faint shadow that crosses the whole image at the sky level.

Dude, watching this totally brought back the memories and emotions I felt from the 2018 eclipse. It was the most amazing natural phenomenon I've ever witnessed. I cannot wait till 2024!
It was an awe inspiring experience, I literally still get excited when I think back to it, the lighting, the shadows! oh, and the actual eclipse was awesome too :D
I live in New York so I couldn't see that one but I think I'll rent a cabin in the Adirondacks to see the next one.

Your video convinced me to plan a trip to South Carolina to see the 2017 eclipse, and it was an absolutely unforgettable experience. I got a tiny bit emotional watching this video just remembering how incredible my experience was.
This might be my favorite smarter every day video ever. I loved the editing, the footage, but most of all, the love you and your wife share! I immediately want to go on another adventure with my wife! Thank you for everything you, Tara, and your family do spreading science, learning, adventure, and a love for our world!!
This was some of your best work. My first and only eclipse (so far) was 2017 in Nebraska. When you showed the Bailey's Beads on the way to totality, i was overcome with emotion, recalling that moment. Experiencing a total eclipse truly does change you. Again, thanks for sharing this moment.
the part of the video that made me smile the most was Destin picked up his wife at the end :) it felt so genuine :)
Agreed! I hope they do more videos together.
"Colder than expected" 😅 winter in southern hemisphere when summer in northern hemisphere!! C'mon Smarter Every Day 😅
I was in San Juan also with my family. I told them at least 3 times "it's winter down here, pack WARM!" Also, we got a cold wave for a week around the eclipse time.
I also went to the Southern hemisphere this summer, but it was hot...
-3° latitude in Manaus...
@@bbgun061 -3° is quite near the equator, the average daily temperature stays almost the same throughout the year.
@@bbgun061 well, Manaus is South from where you live, but its ~barely~ the southern hemisphere! It's basically the equator which is warm all year round. Part of South America is actually in the northern hemisphere. But the more you go south in the southern hemisphere is comparable to the more you go north in the northern hemisphere, with seasons switched. When the north gets summer, the south gets winter. When the south gets summer, the north gets winter.

Because it is extremely rare occurrence that's why.
