I remember pledging to collect all MtG angels when I started playing then taking a decade off before coming back. I figured that they were so cool and quick to buy as everyone knows about them. I now collect Oozes.
Gisela was my first pre-release promo from when i was first getting into magic. She likely played a key role in Angels being my favorite tribe and the reason why im collecting a copy of every angel printed.
Very interesting list, there's a lot of powerful angels and which ones are financially expensive was a bit of an eye opener. Especially when you find a couple you own on the list.
Interesting how aside from having an original printing in one of magics core sets, commander is what's responsible for keeping the value of these game pieces inflated on the secondary market. I wonder if the same would be true if wizards didn't officially support the EDH format?
I remember having a goal of collected every single Angel back in the 90s. Each set came out with more and more angels and I had to give up! But I have 3 sweet Angel Commander Decks 👼
I have no idea how to make a funny segue for this video, so instead I'll just say that Angels are one of my favourite decks to play in EDH. Especially with Avacyn as a commander, almost as good as "Top 10 Vintage Cards (Minus Power 9)"!
(2:08) I have the cheaper Chronicles version of Gabriel Angelfire, and man, do I wish this angel was better. Like, maybe have all 4 abilities enabled at once, or have a mana cost of 5 instead of 7. (9:41) Heh, Serra Angel is like a dime a dozen in newer sets, and I've got several kicking around in my collection. Of course, I don't have this super expensive Alpha version.
Yeah I got one from chronicles too. Raised an eyebrow when seeing it on the list only to notice it was just the alpha version that had such a price. Touche...
While I guess it has a long ways to go to hit this list I'd throw out an honorable mention for Youthful Valkyrie. It's just a 1/3 flier for 1W that happens to get a +1/+1 counter when another Angel enters the battlefield under your control. I see a Card Kingdom price listed at $12.99 which just seems insane to me for a relatively recent uncommon.
@@NizzahonMagic It wasn't?? Where the heck did it come from then as I'd have thought every standard legal card would have been available in regular boosters? I'll admit I quit buying boosters a long time ago but looking up cards there never seemed to be anything special about the little angel besides being a cheap to cast angel I wanted to play with the Righteous Valkyrie.
I almost feel like instead of using original printing, since that tends to skew things towards alpha cards, maybe consider using lowest available price for each card. Cuz yeah alpha serra angel might “technically” be the most expensive but I don’t really consider it to be, since if I really want a Serra angel I can buy one for like 50 cents. I can’t do that with Atraxa. Just seems like if you’re gonna do it that way, might as well include promos anyways since alpha cards have somewhat of the same skewed effect. Just my input, I can see reasons for doing it either way
There are promo Serra angels that are still pricey, like the return to Dominaria Japanese alternate. Serra Angel is 40 cents because she’s printed every year at uncommon. Not so with Atraxa
Interesting how I have 4/10 of these cards (Tithes, Gisela, Resplendent, and Avacyn) where usually with these videos I’m lucky to have 1 of the list. Guess it’s because I like Angels and my pack luck was good (all except Avacyn and a second copy of Gisela were from packs). Funny MTG story: I was playing a free-for-all with a group of people (like 7 or 8 people) with decks I built - totally not made for that play but it was a whatever thing. I managed to get both Gisela and Bruna out, and another player (who was a new player and getting advice from another) was holding on to a bounce card. But the other player told him to wait (they didn’t know/ask) and I was like “Okay… I’ll Meld them then…” They then tried to bounce Brisela and I had to say “Cannot cast less than 3 cost spells… so want me to go back now that you have this information?” Needless to say I was immediately targeted by everybody after that and was the second out, but I took an honorary win.
I wouldn't say that Alpha Serra Angel will always be the most expensive, just wait for some new serialized card 001/000 written in a new language only made for that card.
Im kinda mad at myself for forgetting Serra Angel in alpha. I was able to guess 8 cards on this and now that I see it, Serra Angel at 1 is super obvious >_
It’s insane how she’s still so expensive. Same with Archangel of Tithes, whose ability is quite mid, especially in commander, next to say, Shalai or Giada, or Lyza.
@@ElPanadero18 man there is a definite collector's community in MtG, otherwise certain vintages or prints, or alternate art would all be valued the exact same. For example none of these Angel Cards are competetive in anyway. So Why are some of them 50-80 bucks? Atraxa is no Thassa's Oracle.
Love your videos btw but i don't approve of a Serra angel being number 1 i can buy her for 1 penny the most expensive card should be the cheapest version of a card that's expensive i saw a top ten most expensive cards list and they were all alpha cards it was corny they had shivan dragon like it cost 10 cents i wish in the future you would stop putting expensive cards that have cheap printings it should be expensive because the only version you can get is expensive
Then go by the number 2 slot? Atraxa is the most expensive Angel with base art base printing etc. but if you’re a collector, Alpha Serra Angel is by far the most expensive.
@Garl Vinland ok so would you tell someone Serra angel is 2.5k?? No you wouldn't because you know you can buy it for a penny. Now, you might say there is a printing of the card that is 2.5k but if that's the case include the promos because that's the same thing oh there's this card that's only 5 bucks but there is a promo version that's 700
@@fuzzyjets I'd tell them if they had an original art Serra angel that it might be 2.5 k I don't quite get the context you're placing yourself in. Are you watching this video as a collector who owns most of these cards and wants to know how much your collection is worth? Or are you trying to build an angel deck or something and want to know how much these cards would cost you?
@Garl Vinland the context is he's not a financial advise channel he's bringing up the price to show rarity and power. Serra angel isn't rare. it's super common only the single printing in a specific set is expensive
@@fuzzyjets Dude, Alpha Serra Angel IS super rare. if anything this video is not basing them off of rarity since cards like Avacyn and Atraxa are not very rare and have reprints, but they're just really good cards in today's meta so they have high prices. If you have a very old Serra Angel, with that art, and not the Greg Staples core art or the Dominaria art, it can be worth a lot of money.

Ah, I see your problem. You're collecting magic, your wallet must be on life support
Rampage 3 is pretty cool, but it's no rampage 4.
It doesn’t even count as a dragon either
That beta serra angel i bought all those years ago seems to have become a great investment.
I think its time for the "Top 10 most expensive Promo or Variant version of cards" list. The list would be stacked!

I love iconic creatures and their meaning in the game! And Angels are my favorites ones along with dragons!
My friend gave me a painting of Serra Angel as a birthday present a while back so I'm happy to see it made number one

New rule: Any mana cost/ability whose colors only include green, white, blue, AND black shall henceforth be referred to as "GWUB".

Archangel of tithe is also played in duel commander ;) (in mono white angel)

Teeka's Dragon is the guardian everyone needs in their lives. Way better than Lotus Guardian.
2:30 I feel like I'm being attacked
Damn. I have 3 of those including Avacyn, I had no idea they were this expensive. Nice
Simply give Archangel of tithes Vigilance to get the best of both abilities.
I'd use my Birthing Pod on Linvala, Keeper of Silence, if you get my meaning.
Wierd how my three favorite creature types are related, vampires, angels, and demons

welp the #1 here is a strong contender for the least surprising #1 on any list.
For not being competetive cards, they certainly demand a high price

Mhhhh most rare and expensive is probably the S-Chinese alt art of Starlit angel
It definitely is, I have all angles of MTG history, and it took me 3 years and a lot of money to get a copy of it, finally done 😁
I don’t mind most expensive based on original printing, but I would much rather see most expensive based on cheapest printing.
This
Why?
Because that’s what most people mean when talking about the price of a card.
