Dave uses those little chromatic up and back down riffs all over the place if you listen for it. Sometimes it's like a 1-2-3-4 1-2-3-4 style riff and sometimes a 1-2-3-2 1-2-3-2. Ktulu uses them both.
There is a lot points I could have mentioned. That was the first off the top of my mind. But i did mention that fact and more on my For Whom the Bell Tolls video that I made a few months back.
Yeah Cliff really put the ass into the band's sound on this album. The Cliff em All video release (mostly poor sound quality) when he's doing the background vocals on the Creeping Death chorus: Die!(by my hand)Die! Die!Die! They've had numerous replacements (love Justice, but the bass completely mirrors the rhythm guitar parts, maybe Newstead was just doing what he was told) but it doesn't live up to the original Major Rager. Surprised you didn't talk about Cliff's bass on For Whom The Bell Tolls. No mention of the tone or the bass tracks. Fun fact: the reason why the bass on the album mix sounds different than when its played live (even by Cliff) is because its (at least) double tracked with one of them involving tapped harmonics. Cliff might've doubled the normal lead bass line and made it three bass tracks, but I'm not sure. And there is the elusive fourth bass track which is Cliff playing along with the guitars.

Ride The Lightning really was their famous sound’s catalyst, and MoP/AJFA is them mastering that style.
To their credit, the Black Album was a stark departure but also nailed it (obviously).
I personally love the first half of Load, and a track or two from Reload. But I cannot stand anything after that. After several listens, I cannot find a single track I would objectively enjoy was it not Metallica and I heard it with no context, outside of single riffs or moments.
Hey thank you for your comment. I don’t necessarily hate KEA but it is weaker to me for sure. I do also love Death Magnetic and bits and pieces of the last three albums but I totally respect that you recognize it’s not for you. I wish more people realized that just because they don’t like something it doesn’t mean it’s bad, just not something for them.
Give Spit Out the Bone a listen. I think that's their best since the 80s.
@@JSXSProductions Im more partial to Moth into Flame but that song kicks ass as well. I listen to the majority of the Metallica catalog as they are my favorite band.
@@JSXSProductionsall nightmare long is killer too there's alot of good stuff on the last 3 records. I think people just can't get past st anger they think Metallica is still like that and don't give the albums after that a fair shake. To be fair st anger has its moments too but it's easily their weakest album for me (no lulu isn't a Metallica album and I don't care about lulu lol)

They didn't treat him bad he was a violent out of control drunk who threatened to derail the band before they even got off the ground. All 3 other members unanimously wanted him out so that tells you everything. Dave has had 22 members besides himself in his band since 1985 and Metallica had only had 2 previous members that aren't in the band anymore since 83 one died and one was with them 15 years before leaving. This tells you everything as far as who the difficult one is. I love both bands but stop this nonsense that Dave was treated poorly by Metallica.
