I am currently reading Robert Shapiro's "Planetary Dreams" published in 1999, chapter titled "The Missing Machine" and it is a clear refutation of Abiogenesis from the standpoint of chemistry. I read his "Origins" book which was published prior and it would be quite humorous to see Dave Farina criticize Robert Shapiro since he wouldn't have the crutch of attacking religion in this case.

James Tour continues to get it right: science is predicated on causal explanation. If those researching the origin of life can't locate their work in causal explanation it remains a narrative, which might be interesting but will never be science. Nothing else matters.

@tonymaurice4157 You, just like Tour, are showing your ignorance and don't actually understand the research, far less than even Tour, I'd argue. Tour's been refuted many times over, he just doesn't like the field because it's at odds with his fragile worldview (and by the way it sounds, yours as well). So he goes on pretending he hasn't been refuted and just goes on repeating the same arguments anyway. He's just like a flat earther who argues science in a dishonest manner.
By the way, Abiogenesis doesn't just involve chemistry as it's a multidisciplinary field. But Tour's area of Chemistry is in the area of synthetics, whereas systems chemistry is pretty much the centerpiece, and he's clearly not an expert in the latter as he seems to continuously misunderstand it or just wants to pretend it doesn't exist.
Creationists like Tour engage in the god of the gaps fallacy and don't provide any scientific models of their own to show how creation explains things better. Saying "God did it" is a panacea that doesn't actually explain anything; it definitely doesn't provide any mechanism on how life was created.

They couldn't use de novo synthesis to produce all the amino acids required ( chemically ,we know why it couldn't happen) but they believe natural processes could not only make it, but polymerize them into functional proteins and eventually life.
The failure to comprehend the difference between what you have now and what is to be achieved is the reason why we are having this problem.

Cronin received a $3,000 honorarium to attend even though he was already in Boston, and he only agreed to attend on the proviso Dr Tour could only respond to questions put directly to him. So it was as if he was gagged, scarcely a fair debate, especially as Cronin literally has nothing at all of substance, his assembly theory is literally just Huffman and LZ-77 lossless compression algorithms, garnished with a cornucopia of hyperbolized bunkum courtesy of Leroy Cronin.

In a way Cronin's right: they are fools. I watched his interview on professor Dave's channel the other day.
Lee claimed that it was the very decay Tour is talking about that kept providing the ingredients needed when the failed lines decayed into their simpler states. Then he appealed to evolution a few times saying the first cells might not have needed some of those things (referring to those unanswered questions). Then he said progress is being made on each step, and once you do this you can...., once you have a cell wall you can..... etc etc. The audience fell for it hook, line and sinker. Nobody even questioned if any of his "once you have" scenarios had ever been demonstrated, which I don't think they have.
The point is we don't know yet. This kind of tearing down of research actually only proves one thing, James Tour has issues.

@@JessicaSunlight Why is written adoration of Christ keeping Him on a distance? As far as I can tell, the Psalms praise God quite a bit. Even the Epistles are constantly praising God in the early days of the church. While it may sometimes be "lip service" to some, the only way to know that for sure is to be in constant community with said believer.

Instead of waiting for assembly theory, a new theory proposal should rise up as of today! An experimental theory that can explain that in order for life to have come to being, you need more than algorithms or intelligence. (Note: Of course I'm sympathetic to I.D. I'm just pointing out that the God head that made life and the universe is more than just intelligence.)

I agree with most of Dr James Tour's arguments, except when he opens the possibility for future understanding of how life could have come about, or that scientists might be able to create life in the future, because in such case, there would be a materialistic explanation for the origin of life, which contradicts with the belief that God is the origin of life ("In Him was life" John 1:4).

@@Robert-ct6bc James Tour is not telling lies. He has never said that we will never find out how it could have happened. He has consistently said that as a scientist, he can never say that. We may discover one day how life came about naturalistically. But that is not a given. And the evidence shows that there are many aspects of origin of life that are not possible without some outside intervention. The natural, organic molecules do not move from non-life to life, irrespective of the earth’s early atmosphere or the environment in which it needed to happen. All we know is that life originated. We don’t know how. And the evidence is against it happening through a purely naturalistic means.

50:02 you are right, they don't "know" how or why to move towards life. But logically speaking, if a molecule or cell or whatever it is you are trying to evaluate, by mere iterations the ones who work the best will survive and the ones who didn't won't. So when you say why? It's because the ones that didn't survive stopped existinf and when you say how? It's because they were not fit and so didn't stay longer.
The question is how do you get this self replication and then increase in complexity in the first place. This is main question in OoL. Not even close to an answer so far.

There are problems when you affiliate with fringe organizations like Answers in Genesis… the academic community will use it to discredit the veracity of anything you do, as they have tried to do with Dr Tour’s slight affiliations with the Discovery Inst. which infinitely more “august” than Answers in Genesis.
Ken will never work with Tour. AIG is extremely critical of ID and even calls them out by name. Tour isn't technically affiliated with Discovery Intitute but is sympathetic to the ID movement. He also refuses to adhere to a hard and fast 6d, 6k years and views science and the Bible very differently. He has made great pains to keep them separate because of his audience. AIG would have to provide a disclaimer to work with Tour.
That survey about has the public been mislead about OOL claims only has 715 responses. I would love to know how it was conducted.

I get that science can expound on God’s Word, but Dr. Tour is wrong when he suggests that science might someday figure out a naturalistic means for the origin of life when the Bible says it requires God’s speech.

I also read about some comment that the heart has a small charge for it to be do that defib. apparently if it isnt there no matter how many times they defib they cannot revive.

What Prof Lee is saying is if Evolution is a natural process that leads to formation of a cell then we need to see it prebiotically, that is all the assembly theory is trying to find out(my little head).
