- Adriana and Kalisha are two Las Vegas mothers who put their families first especially when times are tough. Both fighting to keep their families moving forward during stressful battles with cancer. The FOX5 Surprise Squad wanted them to know they are both loved and appreciated.

Lost my mum over 30 odds years ago. Would do anything to have 5 min with her now. Mothers day is always every day of the year. Their strength they have for their family is somewhat unbelievable. God bless to all mothers. From Newcastle Australia.

A gift is a gift is a gift. Yes I believe the first couple deserved a lot more but that is because people like us want to see people like them get more. So many upset that couple dint get more but they appreciated the gift as a blessing and something they didn't have before they started the day. Y'all are not wrong when you would love for someone else to get more. But y'all have to realize that anything given no matter how big or how small is a blessing and most of the time, the smallest gift will brighten the darkest of days

I could be wrong about this but, I think you guys are missing the point here. There was no indication that the first family was struggling financially, the husband just wanted to show his appreciation for all she does for him and his family. I've watched quite a few of these and they always seem to go above and beyond to help people who truly need and deserve it. I'll agree that the editing could've done more to convey this but I don't think they were intentionally 'screwed'. The second mom had to take time off of work for medical reasons which is why they gave her more money to support her family while out of work, and the way it was presented, she was mothering three kids on her own(again, not stated but speculation based on the way the story was presented).
Alternatively, the news team doesn't have the funds to give out, they're donations. The guy from Nissan is the one who gave the $10k and he's the one who would decide how his money is spent. Maybe that was his call for whatever reason. In which case the $500 may have been out of pocket for the news crew, which is pretty generous imho.
tl';dr : You don't know the specifics, this crew seems to come through in as big a way as they're able, I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt that what they did was the appropriate response and hope both mother's had a great Mother's Day! :)
$500 is generous, but the optics are pretty bad compared the other surprise squad surprises. They may not be struggling financially, but the mother said she was overwhelmed with day to day stuff. Instead of just handing her $500, which feels to me like a small payment for exploiting their story for ratings, they could have done something more meaningful like getting her maid service and meal delivery. It just didn't feel very personal or touching the way the other surprises do, because most of them are tailored to the specific needs of the person.
@@lpt5839 That's entirely fair, and I'm not arguing that they couldn't have done it better. My issue was with all the people saying giving one person $10k and another $500 was an atrocity. I was just pointing out the difference in circumstance. This is MY OPINION based on what I saw and again, I could be very wrong but I'm going off the same limited information that everyone else is, yes, she's working her tail off. She took command of the family and did what she had to do to keep it running during a very stressful time.
The difference, I believe, comes in the form of her situation is a temporary one(waiting on husband's foot to heal who is possibly getting paid medical leave vs single parent who loses all income when taking time off), as well as the way the story was presented. It could simply be the way they chose to edit the story but again he never claimed they were in financial crisis. Seemed more to me that the guy simply wanted to appreciate his wife and all she does for her family in a big way for Mother's Day. I got my mom flowers and a card and she was happy that I did that much. This guy got his wife $500, local news recognition and now almost 20k views on youtube. Not many people can claim they did that for their spouse/mother for Mother's Day I would think.
TL;DR I think the point was the recognition more than the prize. Could they have edited/presented it better? Sure, but disliking the video and trash talking the FOX crew does little more than devalue what I believe the husband was going for
I think that $500 is generous for us that would be only £391 but still thats quite a lot of money. the second mom the money can't come out of nowhere and it was generous so I think theres nothing wrong with this.

For everyone talking about the $500..... you need to understand that no one is made of money. Maybe the family wasn’t so much struggling financially. The mom was over worked with having to care for everyone in the house, but they said nothing about financially struggling. That $500 was a generous gift. Fox 5 Surprise Squad has never let anyone down, if money was the issue, they would have done something about it. And the guy from Nissan always always always comes through. Whether it’s a car for a family, or a generous money offer, he always does. The point is, this show is about helping people. I bet no amount of money could beat the feeling she had just to know that her husband cared that much to reach out, and that Fox five surprise cake through. It’s the thought behind things that counts the most.

The women were like crying and talking about the hair stylist's kids, and I just look at the lady getting her hair done, like, what is she thinking?
