Star trek 4 is a beloved movie of mine since childhood...Everytime i visit San Francisco , i visit Sausalito trying to find that aquarium in the film....This gorgeous music brings tears to everytime i listen to it ... Just Brilliant
I still cannot understand how Paramount does not throw whatever money they needed for James Horner to return after the INCREDIBLE Themes established in II and III… instead we get “Santa In Space.” Now Paramount is being bought and carved out … serves em right.
I liked Rosenman's Theme. It felt Christmasy and the movie did come out at Christmas time. It was a nice change from the previous movies, although Goldsmith's and Horner's music was great in those movies.
I agree... good point. But to me also the references to ancient forms in the theme like imitation and canon deal with the fact that we are going back on earth.
I loved how it was a very different feel, but that fit well with the movie, itself also having a very different feel, being a slightly more lighthearted, family-friendly film. The score reflects and feels entirely appropriate in that context. It's great. :)
Yeah, I really think that this is the best Star Trek theme that I've ever heard. There's no understatement in it, it's just brutally powerful and full of energy. The hospital chase had the funniest exchange in Star Trek history: Police Officer (to Kirk): How's the patient, doctor? Kirk: He's gonna make it! Police Officer: "He:? You came in with a "she"! Kirk: One little mistake... Pure gold!
Rosenman did get the tone exactly right. Upbeat, optimistic and heroic (but not too heroic or too serious). His theme matches the film as being the closest in spirit to the TV series, which was about fun entertainment first and being remotely believable second.
I am hopping pissed that RUclips in their ultimate kindness sought fit to eliminate the FULL uncut soundtrack. I used to fall asleep to it. Now I can have a cut up version with people screaming Liberty, Liberty, LI BER TEEEE! In my ears. No thank you. Fuck RUclips!
I still don't like the Xmas feel themes but loved Voyage Home it was one of the best outside of WoK but their is a jazz set in here that was amazing i still get goosebumps from when Kirk and the gang where walking across the street and he call the guy "Double dumbass" this movie stands the test of time
Everytime i watch this some one in my family walks in , stops , and says : " is that the one with the Whales " But . They also say that when the other movies are on as well. They know gosh darn well which one has the whales.
Really enjoyed the movie when it came out. But I thought the soundtrack was awful. Easily the worst of the original series movie. Sounded so dated even n 1986. It reminded me of some silly sit com soundtrack from 1973
Honestly my least favorite of the Star Trek movies, just felt like a really slow movie, only part i did enjoy was the ending when the Bird of Prey is crashing and your on the edge of your seat wondering if she is gonna hit the Golden Gate Bridge and the rescuing of the whales.
oh ok go read some books LOL this movie rocks nuts exploding! funny witty and just a great play at all the characters being a crew and not just Kirk and the trio of 3 being camera hogs
Wonderful music and movie too.

What a great soundtrack and peace. It relaxes the mind and brings out the soul.
The callback to this theme on Picard S3 almost made me shed a tear
"They say the sea is cold, but the sea contains
the hottest blood of all."
Certainly MY favorite ''Star Trek'' theme !
"My friends, we've come home." May history never forget, the name...Enterprise. #ncc17014ever

Spot on. Christmassy. Felt just right for this film. But IMHO not the best soundtrack. Not anthemic enough. But still a good fit for The Voyage Home

Unique score for a unique Star Trek movie

Star Trek IV is my Favorite series film of them ALL!
Michael McClary, Professor of Trumpet 🎺 (ret ) Georgia Perimeter College & GSU
My favorite opening for a Star trek movie! Michael McClary
A golden era for both music and films, before everything went on steroids
“Humans are known as the musically acclamated PUPPETS of this federation!”
-the Klingons after listening to this
Probably the most uplifting of all the original movies. My favourite bit is from 10:49.
There is a jazz version of this piece that I have heard a long time ago and I have been searching for it for going on a year now.
From the scene when the whales are released back into the ocean.. 300 years later
This was the only piece I only cared for.
@@RKELLY79 It's called Ballad of The Whale by the Yellow Jackets

Come on, you know nothing endears you more to buying insurance from a company than when they interrupt music You’re listening to! =D
Or you could, you know, purchase the full OST if you'd like.
And liberty mutual can eat shit
That's the wrong enterprise in the picture. Star Trek 4 is where the NCC-1701-A is introduced.
Its all good. The "A" isn't really the Enterprise.
I really love this soundtrack .

Soundtrack for a night at the museum
Rosenman seems to borrow a bit from his Lord of the Rings soundtrack, but hey, its fitting for this rather lighthearted adventure.
Best soundtrack of all the films hands down !
Yeah sure xDD
LOL yeah no
I love the Horner themes the best but yes this soundtrack is fantastic. Inspiring, upbeat, almost has a Christmas feel.
@@applaudtherockstar7893 it was released in Christmas or close to it I think
❤👍🏻

Too fast.

For real? You serious?! This is slow?! Star Trek: The Motion Picture helps this movie get to sleep at night (and I am a fan of TMP).
