and very important. eiichiro oda -> e like dr_ea_d, ii like _ea_t, chi like _chi_n, ro like robot; and his family name is oda not odo :) most readers who enjoy the manga alot call him oda-sensei (-sensei as respectful way to refer to scholars, teachers or authors). fascinating to hear from someone who is totally new to manga. @@KeyleeTamirian new year, that mf oda deserve some rest. Manga, live action, and the newest remake "the one piece" yeah he be fuckin robot if he maintain the normal schedule.
Yes! Another one! I am addicted to book readers trying One Piece for the first time, and discovering a whole new world to inevitably fall hopelessly in love with.
@@Shellyish I've been a weekly One Piece reader since 2006. My addiction to watching book readers discover it started with Merphy Napier, almost 3 years ago, and really is my favorite kind of video to see, currently. Anime reactions are great and all, but my personal wheelhouse is for book readers to have well thought-out takes on characters, story structure, and progression. So yeah... Instant sub, for me. I'll be waiting for the News Coo to deliver your next video to me, here on Egghead Island.
@@funkyd3321 yes there is just something about book readers that is so cool hearing them analyze the manga The way each of them sees the world is different and I'm glad I can reread/rewatch One Piece from their pov and learn and discover new stuff I recently found Merphy and just love her You should check out "TheDrawkShow" if you haven't yet I love their videos as well
@@funkyd3321 Have you checked out "Books and Tropes" She doesn't read live, but has a similar setup to this. Just watched her recap the big fight. You know the one. And she is crying as she is just talking about it. It's beautiful.
Yes, watching book lovers react to One Piece is very special because they usually have a very different sensitivity that anime watchers don't have. I love Merphy videos too. I'm currently also following a RUclips series with "my teacher mother reacts to One Piece (Drawk Show), she is an English teacher and the way she reads into the story is amazing. I love her insighs.
Booktubers getting into One Piece (and ultimately becoming OBSESSED) scratches an itch in my brain that I wasn’t aware I had until Murphy Napier started her OP journey. The story starts a bit slow, but it opens up into a deep, highly intentional, and emotion-shattering epic that will mostly likely end up in your top 3 reads EVER.
"Is it worth it"? Yes, yes, a million times yes! Not every story is for every person, but if you're already enjoying the first 3 chapters then this is 100% the series for you.
The greatest strength of one piece is it makes you feel like a child, you keep smiling like a child, you will cry like a child and you will fist bump like a child. No matter what age you are, when you are reading/watching one piece you feel like a child living in a dream world
Welcome to One piece. As a beginner there are a few things it's good to know: 1. Whenever you see the name ”Zolo” know that is actually ”Zoro”. 2. Devil fruits only give you certain abilities. People can get super strong/ fast etc without them by training, which is what Luffy was doing since he was a kid 3. The author's name is pronounced "Eii-CH-iro Oda" not "Eii-K-iro Oda" 4. Pay attention to the cover of each chapter. Sometimes Oda uses them to show us what happened to some of the characters from the past and often provide context for something that will happen in the future in the main story. 5. Oda will also have a Q&A section called SBS where he will provide both silly and important information. See you in 1100+ chapters
This series has a fair bit into its world. Its got ALOT to offer. When it comes to woldbuilding, this is the LotR/Hobbit of manga. Be sure to check out the chapter cover pages, art galleries featuring fan art, and SBS pages where the author personally answers fan questions, usually with a humorous touch. They add to the experience. As for the chapter cover pages, there are points in the series where the covers tell a side story, usually on the subject of previously met characters and the adventures they have after having met/fought Luffy. Either that, or fan requested art Oda puts out, too.
You have noooo idea how good One Piece is going to get! Like, "I cannot believe this story is making me cry so hard"-level of caring about the characters. The worldbuilding is so impressive that eventually, you don't feel like you're reading a fictional tale, but more like a record of things that actually happened. I honestly am envious that you get to experience it for the first time, since I've been reading it every week for the last 16 years.
girl, you are in for a treat. This is by far the most fantastic and touching story you will ever read. I know you won’t believe me know, but once you get to about 30 chapters and then 100 and then 300 you will understand what I/we all mean when we say: One Piece is an unbelievable Masterpiece. There is nothing like it
One piece is delightful. My friends and kids love it, so I hear about it all the time! I read volume 1 ages ago but never continued- but I feel like I have because of all the people in my life that feel the need to talk about it 😂😂😂
U should start again as op is certainly turning the world on its head in the years to come u won't be able to avoid the storm better to be apart then swept away
The real question is, Shelly, are you ready?? Can you do it?? The One Piece Manga exceeds anything you can imagine. The emotions will be strong. Can you conquer such a terrific novel?
as you get further into the series something to keep in the back of your mind is these chapters get released weekly. one piece had its FIRST ever chapter that wasnt able to be finished by the deadline and was forced to print incomplete art for its chapter. the story is being written and drawn in real time so the story that is now 1100 chapters long and unlike a book doesnt have the luxury of a finished manuscript that can be read and re-read and edited to make sure everything feels cohesive. and despite this Oda has built one of the most fleshed out worlds and ties things together masterfully. he plants seeds and lets them grow very rarely does anything ever feel forced. and even the minor characters get fleshed out and given depth to their actions. part of the reason the series is as long as it is is because Oda creates a character and is compelled to create an entire narrative around that character so that they feel real in his world and not just an add on. there are two major groups of characters that this applies to later in the series that were last minute additions that then entire arcs and sagas end up being created for them. the most impressive thing to me about manga is there are great artists and great story tellers but manga artists have to be both.
Hey there Shelly, longtime One Piece reader here. I grew up on anime and fantasy novels, and One Piece really hits a sweet spot. It’s so fanciful and yet so full of meaningful, emotional character writing, and a rich sense of history and place. It’s long as heck, so there are definitely some slower/merely good story arcs, but there are some incredible highs in this series. I’m subscribing so I can watch your journey, because there are so many moments I want to see your reaction to. I can’t guarantee you’ll like all of it, but there’s so much to love lol.
This Manga/Anime is so deep and so vast it's almost too much. when you think you can't be surprised anymore by the way the story will be told, you get a left hook out of nowhere. You find yourself crying at the odd times, there are insanely deep connections and backstories that just wrench your heart and change completely how you feel about a character. It truly is a masterpiece of storytelling, and the fact that we just got to chapter 1100 and it's maybe still a couple years from completion is mind-boggling to think about. If you find yourself falling off of something because it's not fun, One Piece has it all. Some Arcs may not be your favorite but they truly only get better as you read on and have certain threads tied up. Oda is a genius and there really is no other way about it. Regardless, enjoy your journey! No matter how far you get its worth an experience.
Here's the big pitch: One Piece is the "Wheel of Time" of manga. You start very zoomed in, and you see how the tone of the story is, but you really have no preparation for how vast and expansive the world will be, how carefully seeds are being planted even in the first few chapters, only to fully bloom hundreds of chapters later. You will laugh, you will cry, and you will have moments of awe. If you want a good idea of how far to read to know if the series is for you, the first 100 chapters is sort of the prologue for the entire series. It's like the portion of Lord of the Rings that takes place in the shire. You will understand the kind of storytelling Oda likes to do, have a core cast of characters we're traveling with, and you'll have an idea of where the series is aiming. It's the first 12 volumes. Other than that, as another commenter recommended, looking up the "arcs" and "sagas" is a good way to break up the reading. Each arc contains its own self contained story, though every arc is always making broader connections to the wider world. Thanks for sharing your positive energy, hope to see more One Piece content soon!
This. I think it was Daniel Greene (another Booktuber who got into One Piece) who said this, that writing off One Piece before finishing the prologue (chapter 100) is like writing off the LOTR movies an hour in like "who cares about a village of hobbits". I totally understand people not wanting to commit to something this long, but man is it goddamn worth it. Definitely one of the greatest stories ever told!
I watched the anime when i was kid, stopped at episode 600 or so. But this year, after the live action, i decided to read the manga for the first time. I am currently at the middle of the manga. It's really refreshing to experience this story now, basically ten years later, because it's like watching for the first time as i understand things differently now. Hope you enjoy reading it as much as i do.
I liked how you detailed your process of just getting to the story. I've been reading One Piece for over 20 years and listening to you brought me back to every single way I've read the story throughout the years. Hope you have fun
Lets gooooo another one of us. So hyped . One of the best stories ever. Emotional, Character driven, Worldbuilding epic, Forshadowing giant and consistency thats how I’d describe one piece. Its best selling manga of all time so don’t be surprised how popular and how big the fandom is lol
omg… First it was Merphy, then it was Daniel Greene, then it was Meanie Mosey, then Amber Alise, and finally it was How to Train Your Gavin…Now I just discovered another booktuber on their One Piece journey. The algorithm knows what I like 🥹 can’t wait for future videos!!
@@Shellyish you should check them out as you read through OP, especially Merphy!! I love her videos and it was such a joy seeing her slowly love the series more and more!!
Most therapeutic story I have ever read. Silliness, dispair, courageous, frustrating, mistorerious, adventure, and joy are just a few words. I am hooked on it. But it took me awhile to get into it. This first few characters have to grow on you.
I, like so many others have commented, love coming across peoples’ channels when they’re starting their journey with One Piece. I think a big part of it is that nine times out of ten when I recommend the story to friends or family, the medium and story length are too intimidating. The world and character building are central elements in the story, and I hope you enjoy as much as I have! I hope you don’t mind a couple unsolicited suggestions: 1- If your husband is fully caught up you may want to ask him to filter comments for you to avoid spoilers. 2- Reviews after full arcs or stopping points during arcs are a great format, but I’ve also seen some readers post intermittent clips of their reactions as they’re going through an arc with their reactions right after big moments, which can be cool for us to see your immediate thoughts, reactions, and theories surrounding the events. The arcs get longer and denser the farther into the story you get. Regardless of the format, I’m looking forward to your future videos and reviews!
I don't mind unsolicited suggestions in the least. You are so kind to put it that way. After reading and considering your comment, I'm thinking that I'll do some reading vlogs around this series that way you all get my immediate reactions. I'm very excited about the whole journey. I really didn't expect such a reaction from the One Piece community. :)
One Piece is a story that Eiichiro Oda has been working on ever since he was a child in school. He'd gone through many different iterations of the story in his own time before releasing a "One Shot" (think of like a pilot episode but for manga) called "Romance Dawn" which is the first version of the story we see that has quite a few changes to what we now have, but the same protagonist, Luffy. One Piece is a story I can only describe as a living, breathing, and thriving world that just so happens to contain the journey of a young man that wishes to become the king of the pirates. It can't be over-stated just how much passion Oda puts into his world-building and character history. There's usually always a reason for the inclusion of something, and if you don't understand it in the first encounter, you can be sure that something will come around to tie it up in a nice little bow a couple hundred chapters later, or perhaps even later than that, just when you thought it would fade away to irrelevancy and never be brought up again, changing the entire context of everything you had just read up until that point. One Piece is a story that you'll wish you could experience for the first time over and over again, without a doubt. The manga is currently coming up to it's final arcs (kind of what manga fans use instead of "seasons") so there's currently a lot of things being revealed that had been a mystery up until now, so stay as blind as you possibly can when going through this amazing journey. Have fun sailing the Grand Line! Hope to see you with us in the near future!
You and so many other folks have been so wonderful and encouraging. I had no idea what a warm welcome I would receive and I'm so grateful for it. Oda seems like quite the writer and storyteller. Thank you for the wonderful welcome! :)
One piece is, in my opinion, one of the best fictional works i have ever experienced. it is an increadibly well written, well planned story that, even to this day is reaching new peaks in storytelling while still having early story arcs that are incredible too
Welcome to the community! This will be a fun but chaotic adventure, enjoy!!😊 As someone who is both reading the manga and watching the anime I will say in my experience it is 100% worth the time! I look forward to the next chapter of the manga and the next episode of the anime each time :)

I’ll try to give you with a little information. One Piece started 25 years ago, and when Ecchiro Oda was 20 it first started published. Before One Piece he had a couple one-shots, which are essentially stand-alone issues manga creators tend to create before their bigger ideas get published. One-shots like Monsters and Romance Dawn predate One Piece and are major influences in the One Piece story. While Monsters and Romance Dawn are definitely influences, Oda has also been influenced by things he enjoyed in his Childhood. Disney specifically is clearly a huge inspiration for many of the storylines with Luffy clearly inspired by Peter Pan. You’ll see inspiration from Aesop’s fables, from Dante’s Inferno, etc. Even in his character designs, you’ll often find characters inspired by real people or real “characters.” You’ll find characters that look like famous Japanese actors, famous western singers, etc. One super interesting part of this series is to see how these types of stories are woven into the narrative. Oda started when he was 20 and has been publishing the manga weekly for 25 years and over time the story develop and become more mature with his age. The art changes, the characters become deeper, and world makes much more sense. The reason why One Piece is the top selling manga in the world (even out-selling Superman, Spider-Man and Batman comic books), is because Oda deeply cares about the reader’s experience. He will even redraw every flashback panel because he doesn’t want readers to be cheated out of their money. As you go through the series you’ll find really cool interesting things in the back of panels, like hidden stories that Oda will reveal in his Q&As after chapter. The Q&As start a little bit into the series. There’s even a character Oda created years back with the name “Pandaman” for a wrestling design contest that was rejected he places in the background of crowds of people, like Where’s Waldo. It’s almost like he invites the readers to dig deeper if they want to. There is also a really cool concept in the series called cover pages, where he will draw a snapshot of characters lives after we’re no king with them, continuing their story in the world. And a good amount of times those cover stories influence super stories or make it back into the main story. One Piece isn’t by any means perfect, but Oda lives in this world and stays true to the tone throughout the entire over 1000 chapter manga. As a joke people will cal Oda Goda because of how great the story is consistently, with how much he takes risks that pay off, and how much effort goes into the series. The fact all of this was made my essentially one person (he does have editors and assistants), is unlike anything ever. One Piece is as large as it is in the world is a testament to how great it is. Even when people get caught up, there is so much to talk and learn about from this series. The RUclips community around One Piece, even after getting caught up, is very diverse. There are amazing artists that do fan art, people that theorize, people that break down the influences of the story, people that talk about the themes and create discussions around it, and the majority of this community is full of great people that are willing to help others out. Today is my birthday and I’ve had a terrible flu today so I hope this helps you out. If you have any concerns or any questions, don’t be afraid to ask in your videos. It is your first One Piece video and it’s natural to get names wrong. If you continue, It’s a long series and over time you’ll get accustomed.
I LOVE this comment! I'm thrilled to have inadvertently join such an enthusiastic community and for good reason. :) Thank you for this amazing comment. I have so much to think about.
"Luffy clearly inspired by Peter Pan" That's a bit of a stretch to me, in what ways is he "clearly" inspired by Peter Pan? I was under the impression that, like most manga protagonist, he is inspired by Monkey King from Journey to the West. They both share the name "Monkey", Wukong has his extending cudgel while Luffy has his rubber powers, both share a child-like nature and a disregard for rules, Wukong gained his immortality by eating a stolen heavenly peach while Luffy got his powers by eating a stolen devil fruit, and there are a couple of other similarities I can't mention without spoiling.
I don’t want to spoil people here so I won’t go too much into it, but as I said, it’s a mix of all sorts of inspirations and it’s great to see how it’s all woven together@@user.Icarus
FYI in this series, flashbacks are also indicated by the background color of the actual page (the space between the panels). Its white for the current timeline and black for flashbacks. Also there's a digitally colored version of the manga I highly recommend,. It can be a lot easier to understand at times, since Oda tends to cram a lot of illustration into a small space. Enjoy the read!
Everyone always says that worldbuilding is topnotch for One Piece, but I am in love with the characters. There is such variety and depth from our main cast and recurring characters and sometimes even amazing character-based storytelling from side characters we will meet for a single adventure. Oda is very stingy with letting go of the characters that he spent time building and developing, or ones with concepts at their core that he enjoys the most. So he wrings out the most out of his characters wherever possible. He can randomly introduce a character that he just likes the thought of or the look of and then add layers of themes, real world history, inspiration from classical literature and mythology from around the world. And then try his hardest to tie it all back into the world and the situations that surrounds them. This makes a lot of characters like particularly large juicy onions. There are a lot of layers to unpack to who they are, what they want, what they mean to the story being told, what they mean to themes being explored, and what they mean to the world of One Piece at large. I have seen him develop a full fledged better written character and then even give them story arcs and character development in less time then some books series are able to do in 3 or 5 (or 10) books. It is pretty impressive. Although I will agree that his world building is impressive and little details matter so reading this and coming up with theories has become one of the most common past-times for One Piece fans. Show me a One Piece fan that is not either a tin-foiled conspiracy theorist trying to figure out all the big mysteries (and creating crazy cork boards either in their heads or in real life) or an imaginative dreamer coming up with more and more ludicrous scenarios because this ignites their imagination.
Welcome to the world of one piece, I usually don't comment on videos, but you asked if this story was worth it and I felt compelled to answer. With this story and world building I want to say this, one piece builds upon itself the longer it goes the more value it gets. And as you've noticed it's a very very long story. Its a constant incline in intrigue and interest, yes some arcs are not as good as some previous but as a whole it's always getting better and better as more and more of the world is shown. So if you like the start, you'll most likely love the entire ride:) I'm so happy for you and jealous you can start it with fresh new eyes. Enjoy the ride, and welcome to my personal favorite adventure series of all time in any type of media.
Yes!!! I’m always happy when somebody starts One Piece and especially the manga and not the anime (the anime is good, but the pacing/filler is a problem). It’s my favourite manga!!! I’ve been reading it for the past 19 years. The world building, foreshadowing and storytelling is insane. I’ve never come across such great details in any medium.
Love to see an individual experiencing One Piece for the first time! Definitely subscribing for this series! Can’t wait to see you fall in love with this series!!
Always a fan of a booktuber giving One Piece a shot! There’s a lot to love about the series. There’s some things that of course don’t work because it still has some things that don’t land. But One Piece has way more good and booktubers tend to pick up and give great perspective manga and anime fans usually don’t noticed due to context Hope you stick with it. It’s been a good friend since I’ve been 14yo - been reading it for 20 years.
Now I will list a few things to have in mind while reading One Piece: 1) The differences between the manga, the anime and the Netflix live-action. The manga is the author's original vision of the story, and in my opinion the best way to consume One Piece. The anime is good for people who don't like reading, but the anime adds a lot of filler between actual plot episodes. My recommendation with the anime is that if there's a particular moment that you liked from the manga, then I would watch the respective episode just to get a more vivid representation of that scene. Finally, the Netflix adaptation is told quite differently than the original story, with a lot of future characters introduced early and that could get confusing for a new reader so I would advice against watching the show at least for now. 2) Luffy is pronounced Loo-fee and even though the Viz translation says that his name is Zolo, everyone will get mad if you pronounced it anything but ZORO with an R instead of an L. 3) Japanese media, especially anime tend two have a bit of a pervy side to it, and One Piece is no exception, there are a few characters with a bit of a "gimmick" with their pervy side. 4) If you continue to do One Piece reviews, I recommend that you do it for every arc or couple of arcs, or even sagas, but not from a random number of chapters. You can find the different lengths of arcs on the Fandom wiki with the arcs and sagas names. 5) I just discovered your channel with this video. I love One piece and can't get enough of it. I feel that is one of the best stories ever told, if not the actual best. I hope that you can fall in love with the series as much as I and so many people had already. Welcome to the crew
That you for this kind and thoughtful comment. You have no idea how much I appreciate it. I love your advice in 1. I'm inclined to watch the live action after I get past chapter 96, I think. Thanks for the pronunciation help of Zoro. :) And the fair warning about the gimmicks. I'm definitely going to do my reviews by arcs. I do appreciate the guidance. :)
Paneling is an artform on a whole other level in manga than traditional american comics. Paneling styles often differ between genres and are designed to communicate information about a scene to the reader much in the way that camera work in cinematography does. For example, angled panel lines move faster and tend to hold more action than 90 degree boxes. Split panels cause the reader to give it a few beats before moving on. Action lines and shapes direct the reader's eye around the page at a slow or fast pace, and can make the reader wander or fly. Naturally, some artists are more skilled than others, but One Piece is kind of a masterclass in the art. Oda expresses movement in a very unique, fun and efficient way and can tell a whole story with several beats in a single panel. You'll get familiar with it in time! Like anything, the first step is just to experience it. Also, glad you like characters because you're about to meet hundreds of great ones. Bon voyage! :)
We just had chapter 1100 in the manga for one piece last week. The anime is at 1086. It's definitely worth it reading and watching it all. We just got a flashback for a character we didn't know much about and now that we know it changes how we view the story. Don't worry about catching up or finishing it in once setting. Take your time and enjoy it. The straw hat that Luffy wears is Shanks and it means a whole lot to Luffy. Welcome to the One PIece community!
I really hope you decide to keep up with the series. It will change the way you look at life in general, I promise. This series got me thru a very difficult divorce and honestly, is partially responsible for me still being here. I have been current with the series for about a year now and I can't wait every week. The community around this manga is amazing and the theorizing over Oda's masterful foreshadowing will become your life.
The manga has 1,100 chapters, it started in 1997, and it's still ongoing. The anime started in 1999, and has 1086 episodes. One piece is the #1 selling manga of all time, and the #2 selling comic, having recently beaten Batman and now right behind Superman. One Piece is the single greatest story ever told, so yes it is worth it.
@@GutsTheBeast Well that wasn't my point, but I can see how it would come off that way. The last sentence was meant to be my pitch. The numbers part was my answer to her line saying "If you know anything share".
Oh this had intrigued me from Murphy Napiers channel but it’s so much and such it’s own rabbit hole I just haven’t jumped in yet. 😂”I’m not reviewing this but I just can’t help it” I should get back to the series my son read and gave me soon. I am new to your channel. I saw your thumbnail and I thought great. We caught another one. Time to watch the obsession slowly build. You will feel things about stuff you never thought you would. The world building is the best you will see. The peaks of one piece get topped over and over again. I recommend reading it over watching it, but watch the netflix show after reading probably up to chapter like 100. Hope you continue with it and ill subscribe just to see if you react down the line!
Super stoked that another person is reading my fav work of fiction. It's common for new readers to pronounce names wrong, especially people who are only reading the manga and aren't watching the anime. Don't worry people will tell you which names you are pronouncing wrong hehe
Glad you are enjoying it! While One piece may look like a daunting task with how long it is, you should think of it more as a journey that should be enjoyed at your own pace. I have known people who binged the manga in a month cus they liked it so much but I wouldn't recommend it just cus its so much info to take in. OP has amazing characters you get to see grow as you read and some of the best world building I have seen in any media. Some tips I would suggest would be to keep notes for certain characters you find interesting, I would avoid googling One piece and youtubing OP cus its super hard to avoid major spoilers for certain characters/events and try and find someone who is caught up with series so you can talk about stuff or if you have questions. As goofy as One Piece is/looks it really knows how to hit you in the feels and makes you feel a whole range of emotions. A lot of people are turned off by its looks and thinking its just a silly pirate adventure and while it is a silly adventure it is sooo much more than that once you start learning about the world.
I wouldn't be surprised if I ended up binging OP over my Christmas holiday (I'm a teacher). Just by the sheer number of comments/views on this video I'm sure OP is far more than a silly pirate adventure. Thank you so much for thoughtful comment. :)
seems like this video is 2 weks old and you sure know about One Piece more by now. Welcome to the journey. Do not rush and take your time. Just enjoy the ride. It's worth it
Been reading One Piece since 2007. It truly is a great journey. I'm a big fan of literature but manga also has a special place in my heart. I'm still reading it and am currently on the latest chapter (chapter 1100 as of today). I guarantee you won't regret it. Edit: Don't know if you know it, but One Piece is also the best selling manga of all time.
I. LOVE. One Piece. It's my favorite manga/anime ever. I am on my third watch-through and have my Dad along for the ride as well. He has several reasons for liking it, including how more like an American cartoon it seems to be. But that is the only one I will share to avoid spoiling you.
Honestly cant wait to see your next reaction. The story only gets better and better. I wouldn't recommend watching the TV series if you like reading the manga. You can always go back and watch it once you catch up with the manga a little bit more as the show spoils a few things that doesn't come in to play in the manga for a while.
Welcome to this amazing world, hope you enjoy it, such a rolecoster and wholesome journey, this is a story that mature along with the fans, I was one of them, I read it since I was a kid, and can say without regrets, you'll love how this grow up on you with time.
Love that this has blown up for you! I'm a long time can of the series and I've been consuming so much content of people getting into One Piece. I mean it when I say this is one of the greatest fictional properties of our time. Individual perspectives on it are always so valuable that your journey will form its own community. This video was extremely wholesome and I'd love for it to go on! Every channel I've seen do this have grown big enough to need editors and whatnot. I wish you the best of luck and have fun!
My wife and I discovered the Anime about 10 years ago, when it had about 530 episodes available. We started off unsure if it was for us. However, there is a particular scene in Episode 37 (unsure of the manga equivalent) that hooked us for life, and we have watched it religiously ever since. You are in for a treat the deeper in you get. Side note, thanks for taking notice on pronunciation of Luffy. I'm interested in checking in as you progress, but it would have been annoying to hear "Luff-E" too many times. Not that you can be blamed having only been exposed to his name in written form, but it's nice you're willing to get it right as you move forward. Not everyone takes that step.
I just got your video in my recommendations! I'm always excited to see new people to get into one of my favourite stories and see what they can take away from it. It might take some time to get into the format, but I'd say it's worth it for sure. The medium in genreal has so much to offer! Hope you enjoy! Edit: a minor thing I just noticed you say: I wouldn't call manga a genre but a medium. It has vastly different stories for very different audiences and covers all of the typical genres, novels/books do too.
I noticed a lot of "heads up" on the comments. haha. One that I would surely give as a consumer of One Piece productions (the manga, the anime and even the - brilliant btw - Netflix live action) is that you will get your heart broken manytimes (no spoiler here, it will be by sheer happiness and/or sadness, you never know). Its such an emotional reading that someone as in touch with life as yourself will surely make the most of it. Wishing you a good reading of this amazing work of art by God Oda, or GODA :D. Have fun!
The best way to pace your reviews for one piece is either by saga or by arc there's a couple very handy non spoiler things that inform you when a saga starts what the saga is generally called and when it ends also containing the individual arcs within the saga i don't remember off the top of my head where those guides are if someone could be kind enough to share them in a reply i would appreciate it If you want a manga that breaks the ruels of shounen while still following the basic format try reading chainsawman its honestly one of the best series ive read and being able to see past the surface level of the series is very rewarding
This is ridiculously helpful!!! Thank you!!!!!!! I looked up the arc/saga thing and One Piece Wiki Fandom has a really wonderful layout of the arcs. I’m not looking at the “key moments” so not to spoil anything. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I’ll look into chainsawman for sure. 😊
I was also really intrigued and hooked from the first volume. Now that I'm completely caught up on the series it's really mind-blowing to me how much depth this series has. Oda is a master at writing characters and emotion, and it tackles such difficult topics like colonization, genocide, slavery, racism and so much more. The early arcs may seem a bit formulaic at first, but I highly recommend sticking with it because it really just keeps getting better and better!!!
Fruits Basket is my very favorite manga series ever written. The remake of the anime was gorgeous too, & even my husband enjoyed it. 🌸 (If you ever get back to it that is, I am scrolling through the comments & knew One Piece was long, but did not know it was THAT long.)
I love hearing peoples reactions and reviews to One Piece that I'm seeing, that really haven't had a real experience with the medium in the past. It's so much fun looking at it with fresh eyes. Also!! I don't know if anyone's ever mentioned this since it's my first time seeing a video of yours, but your inflection and voice has some serious ASMR to it. I love it, and hope you love the series as much as I did growing up, or at least, understand why it's such a beloved series even if it doesn't end up being quite your thing.
One more to the list! This type of video has become my favourite to watch ever since i found Merphy's journey of falling in love with one piece. I am steadfast in my belief that one piece is the greatest adventure story ever told. It is what i look forward to every week.
I’m pasting in my thoughts on One Piece from 2008: Thursday, November 20, 2008 One Piece by Eiichiro Oda. Volume 19: Rebellion It isn't often that I'm caught without a book to read, but that's what happened when I bailed on The Luxe. So, for the bus ride home from work, I read a manga. I've been curious about One Piece for quite a while, since it is so popular. I learned that it is not a good idea to start on volume 19. The format appears to be about 10 chapters in each volume, so I was starting with chapter 167. As you can imagine, I missed a whole heap of backstory. The larger story is that of Luffy and his dream to locate the One Piece treasure and become the Pirate King. I studied the characters introduced at the start of volume 19, but it still took me a couple of chapters before I began sorting out who was who. It's shonen, which is action/adventure manga. I had so much trouble figuring out what was happening in the action scenes that I gave up trying to decipher those images and relied on the word balloons and non-action panels to get the gist of what was going on. Some of the sound effects in the background seemed out of place to my western mind. I associate WOOOO with spooky scenes and AHHH with happiness or satisfaction, not fight scenes. I realize that this is a culture difference, like dogs barking ruff ruff in English and ouah ouah in French. In between chapters, the author has little chats with the reader. At first, I dismissed these as annoying interruptions. Then I found them really funny. The explanation of the three kinds of transponder snails on page 146, for example. So anyway, in volume 19, Luffy and his band of pirates get into a scrape and get out of it but their getaway is obviously temporary, with Sir Crocodile hot on their trail and the kingdom of Alabasta embroiled in civil war. I discovered that the next volume is not due out until February 2009. I would pick up One Piece again... but probably only if I'm stuck with nothing else to read.
What a great review! I wonder if starting at volume 19 really put you at a disadvantage. Also, good point about the choice of action words though I feel like I just accept them as action words. Like, “of course they say ‘ahhhhh’ when they fight. Hm. You’ve given me a bunch to think about. ☺️
@@Shellyish I’ve read a lot of manga, but shonen isn’t my favourite genre. I prefer more realism, as in Look Back by Tatsuki Fugimoto, or science fiction as in Dead Dead Demon’s Dededede Destruction by Inio Asano, or slice of life humour as in What Did You Eat Yesterday by Fumi Yoshinaga.
yea starting One Piece anywhere else from the start is not a good idea, youre completely missing the main selling point which is the insane world building, callbacks, foreshadowings and build up of everything and everyone. The volumes are not self-contained. Everything you read is extremely important for the next volumes.
if you love world building, One piece is for you. If you like good fight scenes, characters in one piece tend to have unique fighting styles that are heavily tied to aspects of themsleves in a way that's impossible to explain until you see it
One piece is my favorite piece of fiction of all time, the world is built with such care and the story is deep. I look forward to going on the cruise with you.
An understated aspect of one piece is how Oda illustrates facial expressions. It really brings each character to life in a way you wont get from any other manga/anime series. Hopefully you commit to one piece now and it becomes a gateway into even more manga series. I'd suggest something like berserk or vinland saga as your next read.
Nice video,I am up to date with one piece (to chapter 1100 ).One peice is best selling manga and comic book in he world with over 500 milion sold copies so its rnot suprise that a lot of people talk about it .One Piece is know for having one of the best characters and world building in the medium ... I'm glad you enjoy reading it
That was super interesting hearing you talk about a learning-curve to get accustomed to reading mangas. I grew up in France, where Japanese culture has had a strong influence (since the democratization of anime on TV in the 80s, much earlier than in America, for example), and in this respect, the medium has always seemed to me to be simply another way of reading. I hope I don't sound too condescending in saying this, but it's very interesting to see someone approach shonen (manga targeted at young men, precisely in relation to your studies) with little knowledge of the codes and form. I'm really looking forward to seeing how certain scenaristic elements that come later in the story will impact the way you see the universe of the series.
Also, about the different medium in which One Piece exists, there's of course the manga, started in 1997, with almost 1100 chapters as i'm writing this, an anime (so, an animated adaptation of the manga, with all its problems, specificities and changes due to the amount of work it requires) which started in 1999 and has released basically an episode every week since then; and a live action from netflix which adapts the first fourty-ish chapters, a bit differently than in the manga or in the anime.
Just happened across this and I love it when people who aren't as familiar with manga get into the series! I will say that if you enjoy characters and worldbuilding you are going to absolutely love everything about this series. I absolutely love fiction in all forms no matter the origin and One Piece has consistently been my all time favorite story for well over a decade. Eiichiro Oda pulls influence from places you'll never expect and as a fan of literature I think you'll appreciate some of the nods to western literature (I don't want to be specific for spoiler purposes).
Hello! The word you're looking for to describe how the manga's are layed out to the reader in "paneling." Oda is one of the best in the business at it 👏
Hiya Shelly! Welcome to the One Piece fandom! If you like characters, you are going to have a lot of fun with One Piece. It is currently the second best selling graphic novel/manga series of all time, only behind Superman, and it is catching up. The best way I’ve found to read One Piece is by Arc. It makes it much easier to digest and discuss, rather than wondering if there is additional context, escalation or resolutions just a few pages on. While it is long, it is a wonderful journey that has some mind boggling moments that will stick with you for a lifetime.
Welcome! One Piece certainly is long but in the opinion of a random stranger - it's totally worth it. Not all story arcs are built equal but the majority are strongly written. It's pretty rare to have someone new to the genre come along so it'll be interesting to get your thoughts. Oda isn't the first mangaka to be creative with his panelling so it's typically a matter of the creator's style and direction.
I'm so excited for you! I only started One Piece recently, but I'm loving it! I watched the live action One Piece because I was hearing really good reviews about it and I figured it would be the perfect little tasting of what One Piece is about and I could then decide whether or not I wanted to jump into the manga/anime. Needless to say, the live-action was fantastic and now I'm on the adventure of One Piece.
@@Shellyish I just got into the 13th volume. Sometimes I end up coming to a halt in my own One Piece journey because I want to watch other people's reactions to what I've seen so far and to almost read/watch along with others for the first time. Basically, I consume a decent chunk and when it feels like a decent pause point, a nice feeling of closure, or something like that, I'll go months without reading or watching more because I'm too busy watching reactions on RUclips 😆 I've developed this habit from other animes that only have about 150 episodes. I try to prolong the experience as long as possible because I just don't want it to end especially if it isn't completed and/or is on hiatus. This is not an issue I should have with One Piece considering Oda has consistently put out chapters every week for the past almost 30 years! 😱 There are more than 1000 chapters in or 100 volumes of the manga. But I've come to really enjoy this way of going about it because there aren't really many people in my life I can share this and discuss it with. So this way gives that feeling of satisfaction from sharing something you're passionate about with others who are receptive to it.
@@Tye-Dyed awe! I really love that. I’m enjoying the series so far - I’m in volume 4, but don’t feel like I have a solid rhythm with the series yet. There’s so much to explore and I’m so happy to be on this journey.
@@Shellyish Another benefit of watching other people's videos is that it really helps to solidify everything that's happened and I'm far less likely to forget details. It's also just amazing how some people can give you a new perspective almost and make you see things differently than you might have while reading it on your own 😊
watching you come to terms with how different but beautiful this series is is a really cool thing to see. I hope you enjoy the ride, there's really nothing quite like it :)
Short answer: It's worth it. Long answer: It's freaking WORTH IT! One Piece is a masterpiece plain and simple. Sure, it has cartoony art and it's silly at places, but don't be fooled. This only allows the emotional gut-punches to hit you much more effectively. One Piece explores themes like slavery, racism, genocide, classism, parental abuse and government corruption with a nuance and maturity you wouldn't expect from a "silly story about pirates". It treats the subjects with respect and doesn't shy from showing you the terrible evils that those things cause in the world, all the while still retaining a sense of optimism and hope even when things are at their bleakest. It's also a series that rewards you for paying attention. Unlike George R.R. Martin who wrote himself into a corner with his GOT books and is clearly writing by the seat of his pants, Eichiro Oda has a very good idea of exactly where his series is going and how he is going to end it. Which means that you will see things foreshadowed in early arcs that will pay off several hundred chapters later. Each chapter offers you a different piece of a puzzle and when you discover how it all fits into the bigger picture you will be amazed at the amount of love and attention Oda puts into the series. Don't be intimidated by the series length. Embrace it, because it allows the story to unfold and develop in ways other book series and comics are unable to do. There are some things One Piece is able to setup and deliver *precisely* because it's a long running series. Welcome to the world of One Piece. We are happy to have you.
Thank you for this wonderful, thoughtful comment. You make Oda seem like such a thoughtful writer which would make sense consider the fandom out there (which I really had no idea about when making this video). I'm thrilled to be a part of the One Piece fam. :)
Oda, I think knew the major plot beats for his story then adds more things into the middle. There were a bunch of characters he just made up part way through the series as he simply needed characters at the time. And now some of them are integral to the overall story. I am being vague as not to spoil anything.
@@creativerealms yeah I agree, in truth Oda's talent is in making it seem like everything was planned out all along. Don't be fooled into thinking there are no inconsistencies or actual flaws. I've been a fan of One Piece for over 20 years now. I'm now in my early 30's. This series has had a major impact on my life. It's been with me through my late teens and into adulthood. I still have a bookshelf where I proudly showcase all my One Piece merchandise along with the volumes I've collected one by one. That being said: One Piece is by no means a perfect series. As I said, there are tangible flaws to be picked at. Plot holes and inconsistencies that I'm not gonna list here for obvious spoiler reasons but what I'm ultimately trying to say: one should never go into the series expecting perfection. It is however a deeply beloved series to many for a good reason. The world has been meticulously crafted to seem weirdly realistic in the most absurdist way. Oda has also filled the world with such an amazingly vast cast of characters that he's fleshed out to make a lot of other series main characters feel shallow in comparison. It's why it deserves to be mentioned among the greatest stories ever told. That's just my opinion of course and I guess time will tell whether the conclusion to the series will be held in the same regard as the rest but I don't doubt much that I will be satisfied with the ending. He delivers time and time again with really touching and emotionally riveting story beats and conclusions to major events. His success is very much earned.
100% worth it. I feel like if you are having fun then it's alright. The author makes his best to keep that but without downing you as you said. He still puts everything the world has to offer and that includes good and bad things but with the hope that it's gonna be good. Over and over again he nails it, satisfying and make you tremble. Astounding. The reading experience definitely better then watching.
I remember once that someone made the comment that one piece is a modern epic and I 100% agree. The world that Oda has built is completely unlike anything else you will read.
just a heads up, you will drive everyone crazy :D luffy is pronounced loo-fee
Hahaha! Thanks for letting me know! I’ll change my pronunciation for future discussions. ☺️
@@Shellyishif you want to get a voice for the characters in your head check out the English sub of the anime and generally by interacting with other people reading the series you'll learn the pronunciation

I am addicted to book readers trying One Piece for the first time, and discovering a whole new world to inevitably fall hopelessly in love with.
I thought this comment was so cool that I shared it with my husband. ☺️☺️
@@funkyd3321 yes there is just something about book readers that is so cool hearing them analyze the manga
The way each of them sees the world is different and I'm glad I can reread/rewatch One Piece from their pov and learn and discover new stuff

I'm really loving it so far! :)

No matter what age you are, when you are reading/watching one piece you feel like a child living in a dream world
I'm SOOOOOOO excited! I want to fist bump like a child! ;)
It doesn't shy away from this energy too that's what got me into op a decade ago
Welcome to One piece. As a beginner there are a few things it's good to know:
1. Whenever you see the name ”Zolo” know that is actually ”Zoro”.
2. Devil fruits only give you certain abilities. People can get super strong/ fast etc without them by training, which is what Luffy was doing since he was a kid
3. The author's name is pronounced "Eii-CH-iro Oda" not "Eii-K-iro Oda"
This comment was so helpful! Honestly! I really really really appreciate it. The world is so big that any little help is happy welcome. 😊
Oh my goodness! That’s so cool! Thanks for sharing!!
I feel the same way. With everything that we get, it truly is the LotR of Manga. The World Building is Masterclass.
This story we read is definitely a Laugh Tale

You have noooo idea how good One Piece is going to get! Like, "I cannot believe this story is making me cry so hard"-level of caring about the characters. The worldbuilding is so impressive that eventually, you don't feel like you're reading a fictional tale, but more like a record of things that actually happened. I honestly am envious that you get to experience it for the first time, since I've been reading it every week for the last 16 years.
I'm so excited to dig in! I don't know how you've done it. Episode by episode. :)

We all know she is not ready, no one realy is and that's the fun part, we'll be here for her.
taking a quote directly from the manga and changing up the words, well played @stoic
as you get further into the series something to keep in the back of your mind is these chapters get released weekly. one piece had its FIRST ever chapter that wasnt able to be finished by the deadline and was forced to print incomplete art for its chapter. the story is being written and drawn in real time so the story that is now 1100 chapters long and unlike a book doesnt have the luxury of a finished manuscript that can be read and re-read and edited to make sure everything feels cohesive. and despite this Oda has built one of the most fleshed out worlds and ties things together masterfully. he plants seeds and lets them grow very rarely does anything ever feel forced. and even the minor characters get fleshed out and given depth to their actions. part of the reason the series is as long as it is is because Oda creates a character and is compelled to create an entire narrative around that character so that they feel real in his world and not just an add on. there are two major groups of characters that this applies to later in the series that were last minute additions that then entire arcs and sagas end up being created for them. the most impressive thing to me about manga is there are great artists and great story tellers but manga artists have to be both.
Thank you so much! :)
I’m loving everything this far. ☺️☺️
I'm so excited to start the journey! :)
I heard that there is a manga of wheel of time...

The greatest story ever told
This will be a fun but chaotic adventure, enjoy!!😊
As someone who is both reading the manga and watching the anime I will say in my experience it is 100% worth the time! I look forward to the next chapter of the manga and the next episode of the anime each time :)
Always love seeing someone new enter the fandom!
Welcome aboard on this crazy, wonderous adventure of a series! It's my favorite manga of all time, I've been following this weekly since 2004. Prepare for laughter and tears in equal measure!
Prepare for a flood of us to start appearing in the comments as Social Vampires, we live off seeing people experience it for the first time 😆
I can tell! The social vampire thing - what’s that all about??
Also, that’s for the warm welcome. ☺️
@@Shellyish Its the disease you catch after you've caught up on One Piece! :)
It compels you to recommend the series to every person you know or talk to, spreading the influence of the future pirate king far and wide :)
One Piece is the best. I’m on volume 6 with my son right now.
Thanks for the recommendation. I’m only reading this now because of the seed of an idea you planted two years ago. ☺️
Welcome to the community! Be sure to take your time and really enjoy the journey! It isn't for everyone but it seems like you're really going to like it. Excited to hear your reactions!
Thank you so much!!
Damn. I've found the One Piece of comments. I'm genuinely curious as to how many words you out into this.
@@squishy_the_lucky_devil.1879 in hindsight I regret making such a long comment lol
I LOVE this comment! I'm thrilled to have inadvertently join such an enthusiastic community and for good reason. :) Thank you for this amazing comment. I have so much to think about.
"Luffy clearly inspired by Peter Pan"
That's a bit of a stretch to me, in what ways is he "clearly" inspired by Peter Pan?
Here bc I enjoy experiencing people experience one piece for the first time. If it’s a series I’ll be here no matter what 😭
Welcome to the crew! Happy the algorithm pushed this to me. Looking forward to your next video!
I’m so glad! ☺️☺️
😮 I am here for this! I’m in the last bit of the Dressrosa ARC
Yay!!!! I’m so excited!!! ☺️
Keep reading and you will understand why one piece is better than most fantasy books written today
I’m truly enjoying it this far! ☺️
Thanks for the tip! I also love the song 'ziggy stardust". :)
I'm honestly so humbled and excited to start this journey.
Thank you for your kind comment. I really do appreciate it. I'm so excited to dig deeper and deeper into the story. :)
Awesome! Thank you!
Always a fan of a booktuber giving One Piece a shot! There’s a lot to love about the series. There’s some things that of course don’t work because it still has some things that don’t land. But One Piece has way more good and booktubers tend to pick up and give great perspective manga and anime fans usually don’t noticed due to context
Hope you stick with it. It’s been a good friend since I’ve been 14yo - been reading it for 20 years.
I'm so looking forward to this journey. :)
I'm looking forward to seeing your journey. One Piece is my favorite manga of all time and I love when others are introduced to it. Have fun.
Can't wait!
Now I will list a few things to have in mind while reading One Piece:
1) The differences between the manga, the anime and the Netflix live-action.
Awesome that you're willing to give it a read! Hope you enjoy the series. It gets better and better. Happy Holidays!
Bon voyage! :)
OH! Thank you for this comment. It was very helpful! See you on the seas!
Thank you! And thank you for the warm welcome!
I love this comment! Thank you so much! I cannot wait to get into the story more. :) It's been such a joy! :)
Oh wow! Thanks for sharing! :D
Probably the worst way you can sell One Piece to someone.
"Look at the numbers! It surely must be good".
I likely will read this one someday. Thanks for sharing with us.
I just realized Murphy reviewed the series. :) I haven't watched her yet.
@@Shellyish she does a great job- so much to read!

I instantly get excited + butterflies in my stomach 🦋 whenever I see a new book tuber or book tok pops up on my fyp started reading One piece for their first time!! It’s like I hit a jackpot lottery for the first time out of the blue 😂❤ my now unemployed part time job is watching you guys reaction!
How wonderful! :) I had no idea that people were so passionate about the series so much so that they want to see others reading it. :) Welcome!
Thank you! I'm so excited about this journey especially as I begin! :)
Super stoked that another person is reading my fav work of fiction. It's common for new readers to pronounce names wrong, especially people who are only reading the manga and aren't watching the anime. Don't worry people will tell you which names you are pronouncing wrong hehe
I've gotten a flood of comments with folks helping with my pronunciation. I'm a little nervous that I won't ever get it right, but surely I will.
Super glad to see new ppl try out this series! Hope you love it, i'll keep watching your journey!
I'm excited to dig in more! :)
It's worth it
Thank you!! ☺️
I vaguely knew One Piece was popular, but had no idea it was SO popular!
I. LOVE. One Piece. It's my favorite manga/anime ever. I am on my third watch-through and have my Dad along for the ride as well. He has several reasons for liking it, including how more like an American cartoon it seems to be. But that is the only one I will share to avoid spoiling you.
Thanks for not spoiling! I’m so excited!! ☺️☺️☺️
Another Booktuber aboard the ship!
Really excited for your journey.... hope you will enjoy it ❤
Thank you!! 😊
Honestly cant wait to see your next reaction. The story only gets better and better. I wouldn't recommend watching the TV series if you like reading the manga. You can always go back and watch it once you catch up with the manga a little bit more as the show spoils a few things that doesn't come in to play in the manga for a while.
Can't wait!
Hell yeah! I love my first timers! Ur coming on my favourite Playlist to the others! Welcome to the Community! Nakama!

SO excited to see your experience through this :)
Welcome to this amazing world, hope you enjoy it, such a rolecoster and wholesome journey, this is a story that mature along with the fans, I was one of them, I read it since I was a kid, and can say without regrets, you'll love how this grow up on you with time.
I'm thrilled to be on this journey! :)
Awe! Thank you! I’m kind of shy that so many people have watched THIS video. 🫣
Thanks for the pronunciation help. I'm so excited to embark on this journey. :)
This is my favorite series and I'm really excited for you to start. I hope you like it as much as I do
I'm excited to dig in more. I just finished chapter/episode 7. :)
OH! Thanks for the help. You're absolutely right about manga being a medium similar to graphic novels which spans genres. I appreciate the tip!
One Piece is my favorite story of all time. So happy to see when someone discovers it for the first time. Really hope you enjoy the journey ❤
I hope so too! I'm enjoying so far! :)
Have fun!
Awe! Thank you for being so warm and welcoming. ☺️
The best way to pace your reviews for one piece is either by saga or by arc there's a couple very handy non spoiler things that inform you when a saga starts what the saga is generally called and when it ends also containing the individual arcs within the saga i don't remember off the top of my head where those guides are if someone could be kind enough to share them in a reply i would appreciate it
If you want a manga that breaks the ruels of shounen while still following the basic format try reading chainsawman its honestly one of the best series ive read and being able to see past the surface level of the series is very rewarding

I'm so excited about this entire journey! :)
This is so exciting. Welcome aboard!
Fruits Basket is my very favorite manga series ever written. The remake of the anime was gorgeous too, & even my husband enjoyed it. 🌸 (If you ever get back to it that is, I am scrolling through the comments & knew One Piece was long, but did not know it was THAT long.)
Good to know! I'm going to give Fruits Basket another chance at some point.
Always good to see a new person embarking on the one piece journey, you’re gonna love it💚💚
Can't wait!
One more to the list! This type of video has become my favourite to watch ever since i found Merphy's journey of falling in love with one piece. I am steadfast in my belief that one piece is the greatest adventure story ever told. It is what i look forward to every week.
Wow, thank you!

One Piece by Eiichiro Oda. Volume 19: Rebellion
It isn't often that I'm caught without a book to read, but that's what happened when I bailed on The Luxe.
@@AccendinoMCM Yes, I realize that. Sometimes I make ridiculous reading decisions. 😂
I hope you'll continue this long serie. It's passionnating and really well written (sorry for my english I'm french)
No worries. I'm butchering the Japanese pronunciation for this manga. :) We all need a little grace. :)
After watching this video I did a little research and learned some neat facts about Manga. Thanks!
Glad to hear it!
@@Shellyish Being a librarian for years, I'm embarrassed to say I hadn't explored the genre, but I should change that, as it seems really fun.
welcome to one piece. Always great to see more people on the adventure. Love the organization of the video and thought behind it.
if you love world building, One piece is for you. If you like good fight scenes, characters in one piece tend to have unique fighting styles that are heavily tied to aspects of themsleves in a way that's impossible to explain until you see it
Thank you kindly!
Omg ive never seen a Manga Reaction lol, i love it
❤️❤️❤️
Nice video,I am up to date with one piece (to chapter 1100 ).One peice is best selling manga and comic book in he world with over 500 milion sold copies so its rnot suprise that a lot of people talk about it .One Piece is know for having one of the best characters and world building in the medium ... I'm glad you enjoy reading it
Thanks for the info!
Oh Thanks! I really don't know much about the manga medium, and I'm willing to learn. :)
I'm excited to follow your journey to the One Piece
Hello! The word you're looking for to describe how the manga's are layed out to the reader in "paneling." Oda is one of the best in the business at it 👏
Welcome to One Piece world, Shelly! Glad to welcome you to this community:)
Thank you! 😄
That you for the wonderfully warm welcome! I really appreciate it. :)
@@Shellyish Of course! Hope you enjoy
Welcome! I started reading One Piece around the same time of year, back in 2020.
I hope you really grow to love it!
Have a great day!
Thank you! You too!
Welcome aboard! Where are you at in the story??
@@Shellyish I just got into the 13th volume. Sometimes I end up coming to a halt in my own One Piece journey because I want to watch other people's reactions to what I've seen so far and to almost read/watch along with others for the first time. Basically, I consume a decent chunk and when it feels like a decent pause point, a nice feeling of closure, or something like that, I'll go months without reading or watching more because I'm too busy watching reactions on RUclips 😆
I've developed this habit from other animes that only have about 150 episodes.
It's also just amazing how some people can give you a new perspective almost and make you see things differently than you might have while reading it on your own 😊
This is going to be a treat watching you talk about one piece 😂
Oh! Thank you!
I'm new and I must say, you seem like a genuine person.
Awe! Thank you!
Im glad you finally embarked on your one piece journey. Its one hell of a journey
Omg this review is so charming for so many reasons.
Oh my goodness! Thank you! :)
watching you come to terms with how different but beautiful this series is is a really cool thing to see.
You said it so well, sir!
His success is very much earned.
except for the last arc and the current one sadly, let's be real yall
100% worth it. I feel like if you are having fun then it's alright. The author makes his best to keep that but without downing you as you said. He still puts everything the world has to offer and that includes good and bad things but with the hope that it's gonna be good. Over and over again he nails it, satisfying and make you tremble. Astounding. The reading experience definitely better then watching.
I remember once that someone made the comment that one piece is a modern epic and I 100% agree. The world that Oda has built is completely unlike anything else you will read.
I'm so excited!!!!!!
