Whomever decided to not prosecute thieves in the first place is an idiot. Yet, All us consumers have to pay the price. Not all people are honest, good citizens 😢
Retailers should be blamed. LOCK your doors. Buzz the customer in. During COVID there were stores that had customers CALL for appointments before coming in. Or call the store when they were at the door.
There are ways to stop the theft but retailers don't want to put in the work.
They can Put gps trackers in luxury items. Put fakes on the shelf and if the customer wants the REAL thing, go to the back warehouse and get it. Don't keep the real stuff on the shelf.
That's kind of like saying someone should get really good at combat to avoid sexual assault. An advanced culture should just know not to do unethical or immoral things. Unfortunately there are certain segments of the population without proper guidance in their households.
What happens to the stuff that is confiscated?
if the origination of where it came from is documented in some capacity it would make it back to the owner eventually, but if its untraceable which 90% of it will be (unless in boxes with company labels on them which would be rare) its most likely auctioned off by the county.

Great job Bragg, what recovering 0.1% of losses ? Perhaps you should prevent and prosecutre crime versus wasting time on cases you will lose.

sometimes when i use the train i see someone take everything out of the jckets and pocket .. you can tell they took it from somewhere .. also sometimes when im at the barber you see them selling them to the barbers for 5-10$ from vitamins to tylenol..

Solve it all by allowing person at front door to buzz in and out (security, managers, door greeters etc) even cashiers if a slow store.

Have a security guard up top in surveillance room discussing with guard at front door. Also if anything were to escalate such as shoplifter attack guard etc have a panic button to keep door locked and allow police to arrive before leaving. Only in situation where the person is armed or deemed dangerous

@@AmericanTeacher-USA we had same issue in 80s with all the crime in the inner cities and it was not a political issue, it was after effects of the inflation from late 70s.
The difference 70s and now is US can’t raise rates any higher because US has too much debt so interest payments would create more inflation so inflation today will be here a lot longer, hence all the crime.
