Thank you for this excellent tutorial.has helped me overcome the fear of dismantling my Contax iia as the shutter curtain doesn't fully close at lower speeds and I wasn't sure wether cleaning the slow gears would help or dismantling the camera further to get at the adjusting screw for the curtains.I will try what you did first and see what happens. thank you once again.
@@gadia. Hi Yes I took the top off and labelled everything in the right order . when the slow gears were exposed I initially put few drops of lighter fluid . I put obviously the film advance knob back on , and worked it while using the lighter fluids and subsequently put few drops of machine oil in and again advanced and fired the shutter several times , and yes it did solve the problem. and now the slow speeds fire perfectly.
A quick way to fix it is to remove the coldshoe and use a syringe to inject a small amount of isopropyl alcohol into the three screw holes beneath since the slow shutter timer is sitting just directly below. That would save some time from the removal of the top plate. BTW, do you know how to make vertical adjustment of the rangefinder? My IIa has this notorious misalignment problem.
How long will it stay OK after this treatment? Would it not be better, although more difficult, to take the whole assembly out and clean it in an ultrasound cleaner?
Thanks for the amazing video. I managed to get the shutter working but for B and T mode the shutter just refuses to stay open. Any ideas? Thanks a lot,
Good morning Mr. Mikeno 62 Great videos and fantastic camera,I love your job. I HAVE a very nice Contax iia but the rangefinder is misaligned on infinity. Can you explain the way to adjust it please? I research that for long time on web, only you can help me☹️. Thank you Mr. MIKENO 62, best regard, Diego.
Here is my new video about, how to remove real fungus and some Haze in my old Carl Zeiss Jena Sonnar 1:2 f=5cm: ruclips.net/video/8IUjjAyE81Y/видео.html
Yes Hou In many of the old Contax they spend a lot of energy in the absolutly nice design, but the inner mechanic suffer at some points, because of not so reliable metal. Specialy around the film advance gear and the shutter mechanic. And some of them are a little bit toooo complicated and time consuming to work with.
mikeno62 Agreed with you, I used to clean the kiev shutters made in USSR, that is a harsh experience. Kiev cameras seems to have more complicated design than contax iia, but the engineering and use of material are a little bit weaker than contax ones.
Hi! Mine riuns too fast: 1sec speed is lile 1/2, and I've cleaned and lubricated the governor. How can i slow it down? The 2nd curtain's cam position looks ok.
@@mikeno62 hi frieds , please i have a IIIa and the camera is jammed, i have seen this video and others , and i cant find any piece to unlock the curtains , the release bottom its stuck , i have the camera disassemblied on the table few days please can you give me a idea?
Hi ! Mike I still have a Contax I got Shutter Curtain 1 not come up problem need an Video for fix it. I Didn't see any Video about this version, or can I send you my camera ??
Marcel Marceau could not have done it better. Thanks.

I have the same problem with my Contax (the shutter curtain won't close fully at lower speeds). Did it work just cleaning?

Made it step by step and worked like a charm. Thanks!
What oil do you use for lubricating the camera gears? Great video. Thanks.

Good work. Please add audio!
Nice camera, had the post-war variant

Thanks! do you have a video on how to adjust the rangefinder on a contax iia?
Not at the moment, I will see if I have an old Contax iia and put it on my "ToDo list"
@@mikeno62 Thank you!
Excellent, hope to do the same with my new IIa.
Do you have a video about Zeiss Jenna Sonnar 50mm disassembly and cleaning haze ? Thanks.
I actually have a Zeiss Jena Sonnar 50mm for the Contax, that I would like to make a video about sooner, because of Haze and dirt.
@@mikeno62 Cool, I'm also interested in the infinity lock mechanism. Thanks.

Thanks for posting this....:-)
I thought with Contax/Fed/Kiev/Zorki cameras as with Barnacks you had to cock the shutter before changing shutter speed
I think you need to do it on Kievs but certainly not on the Contax iia and iiia. I’m not sure about the earlier Contax ii though.
Hi Mike! I have a Contax IIIa with the same problem showed in this video. Do you know if is much different to make this repair?
Well Mario, I don't have a IIIa, but I guess it must be the almost same construction.

I have a Contax I that I will make a film about, just to show how the inside works.
Comming sooner
Thanks for your wasting time and your support to fix it .

why no audio?
Because most of my film is made from many many many still pictures and put together, just like a time-lapse film, so there are simply no sound.
I was so grateful for the absence of music.
