  • "My ex-husband knowingly infected me with HIV."
Renee Burgess already had been surprised during a prenatal checkup when she learned she was having twins. But a trip to her doctor's office in November 2007 brought a second wave of unexpected news: She was infected with HIV, the virus that causes AIDS.
Her then-new husband, a man she had known and loved for five years, had infected her. Though he had known for two years that he was HIV-positive, he had never told her. His first words to her in the car after the doctor's appointment were: "Don't tell anyone."
"Don't think because you're in a monogamous relationship or you're married that it can't happen to you," said Burgess, whose ex-husband was still in jail for 5 years for knowingly infecting her - a felony in Florida. Please share, like and comment.

It's just means that the transmission rate is low. Aids is when you stopped taking your medication or haven't been in care and white blood cell drops below a certain metric. When I saw what the dating world is like with all the deceit, abuse, weirdos & phukbois, it was depressing. I still believed in love, marriage, all that.
When I felt like I had seen every horrible situation, I gave it one last time, had my heart shattered for what was the very last time. In 2012 I decided to be single & celibate by choice. Since then, life has become increasingly better. When I watched you talk about what a man who is supposed to love & cherish you, did?
Yeah, my life is good, being single is a much better way for me. It's not for everyone, I know. I'm better off remaining single & celibate by choice.

@@imParisthoee I didn’t miss a thing. I don’t stand for the stigmatization of the correlation of hiv being a “gay disease.” People have sex with people. If any of those people have an STI, it can be transmitted. HIV didn’t start in the gay community and it won’t end there. Education and protection are key. This is not a women vs gay men/dl men debate. The commenter is talking about men “swinging both ways” as if that is the problem and it’s not. We need to protect ourselves, sure.
      1. Dudes are DL because of homophobic women and society as a whole. This is no excuse to lie to your partner or knowingly spread infections.
      2. All people (even in a seemingly monogamous or religious relationship) should regularly test. PERIOD.
      3. We all need to take accountability for our sexual health and stop passing the buck. Why are you sleeping with anyone without a test? At least one test per year, how will you pinpoint where you got the infection. I test every 3 months and I’m married. I’m a sexual health professional. It’s my business to educate and debunk misinformation.

@@ukkugoodasfidem ANYWAY men are downlow because those men hate the fact that they’re gay, and they’re worried about the men in their lives negatively treating them as well as the women in their lives. don’t solely blame women for grown men’s insecurities. those men have internalized homophobia and they hate themselves for their sexual desires and they think they can fuck it away with a woman. men are DL because they like the thrill of it. they want to front and cap like they’re straight. let’s not act like DL men are just dying to wave the rainbow flag and live in their truth. their truth IS being on the downlow. these men CHOOSE to openly date women KNOWING their attraction to men. so how is this women’s fault? they go out of their way to find themselves in relationships with women just to go and cheat on them.
gay men have no problem sitting around and warning women about DL men and we’re all supposed to be so grateful that they imparted that “insider” knowledge on us naive female folk. but when women aren’t fucking stupid and talk about these fronting ass DL men and warn each other about their propensity to cheat, lie and spread infection, then women are homophobic.
i am not pretending that women can’t be homophobic and don’t perpetuate it. but honey this is a man’s world. men are more afraid of men then they would ever be of some women’s opinions. homophobia doesn’t exist because women are straight. take some damn responsibility. if you’re a man who knows they like men......DON’T DATE WOMEN. who are you doing that for????
for every DL man there’s an out and proud gay man who has no shame about who he is. and you know who he’s in community with? other gay men. and you know who else? who he’s probably hanging with, clubbing with, in deep friendship with? WOMEN. we gon sit here and act like historically gay men don’t find themselves always in the company of women? that women aren’t the first to be accepting of gay men? again i would never sit here and deny that there aren’t some homophobic ass women. definitely. but to say women in general are homophobic and that’s why these men are on the DL and not these men are on the downlow because they themselves are homophobic, is a completely ridiculous statement.

That why I tested my boyfriend before we started be serious. He accepted, and I was really happy he was OK with it... Some people might think u are crazy, but he told me that in England he met more than 16 girls in 2 years and I was :wtf you don't touch me 😂 bring me a test! And then he did.... All negative except for herpes to his upper lip.
Now we are togheter from 4 Years, and I yes I know that we are not an exception, maybe one day we break up, we betray, we separate and can happen also to us. But from my opinion regular check ups and tests should be normality in all couples. Even if u don't cheat.

@@cherylthec I thought that when the virus was undetectable it couldn’t be transmitted. Maybe he was off his meds when he gave it to her. I don’t have much knowledge about that, I just remember watching this video about a young lady who got hiv on her 1st sexual relationship.
However she was lucky enough to find a guy who married her knowing about her medical condition. They used condoms al the time. Then she wanted to have kids and that’s when her doctor explain to her that it was perfectly fine, she didn’t need to use condoms as she was medication and that the virus was undetectable. She had no idea and was having protected sex all those years. They ended up having kids together.

Thank you for sharing your story. Before I had sex with my now husband, we both got a full panel sexually transmitted diseases test completed, that included HIV. We also even after marriage, take a yearly test and share results. We have great insurance and we also get a full screening for all cancers. Any African American woman that is dating or married to an African American man should do the same. I’m pro Black love and my husband is a wonderful Black man, but he would have never gotten my cookies the first time had I not seen the results of those tests. Black women need to be proactive about our health care.

My cousin put off getting a mammogram and found out she has stage 4 breast cancer.
