I have been an operator over 20 years and I rolled pneumatic roller when I was a rookie on the job, I bailed off as well, luckily I made the right choice in that case. I can relate to Paul's decision to jump. It is a natural reaction when you're in that situation. I plan on showing this video to my crew at the next safety meeting, hopefully it's an eye opener

I have work underground mines and surface mines. I have a kidney failure, just 7% left. I thought I had it worse. Glad I can still walk, and do just a little things at home. Stay safe fellow miners and former miners.

Safety procedures and training does work. He's lucky to be alive and telling his story. Stay safe and go home at the end of your shift.

I think we've all done something to this effect. You make a judgment call that feels right with little or no time to think and it comes back to bit you. Feel bad for this guy.

When I was a teenager I was using an Allis Chalmers C (20-some hp) to mow ditches. You would think the uphill wheel skipping would be a clue, I kept going where the slope was worse and it started to flip. I must've jumped off, I just remember looking up at it coming at me, and instinctively rolling the right way (rearward relative to the machine), I was uninjured. It had no ROPS, staying on wasn't an option. Steering column was bent, but it was still operable. If the ditch feels too steep, don't mow it/turn on it/whatever. It's not worth it.

thats why you never turn up a slope. it sucks this guy had to learn the hard way. btw a d6 has less ground pressure than a loader.

Know your experience limitations too as it’s highly likely he should not have been on these machines doing that job in the first place.
