Why is it that OLED provides better battery in Phones even at high resolutions but in Laptops they take more energy? OLEDs were supposed to provide better battery than IPS panels
The only time an OLED pixel is more efficient than other display tech is when it’s off. On a phone the UI can incorporate a lot more pure black and still be usable and and a good experience. Tons of apps even offer oled modes, converting a larger area of the screen to pure black. On a pc, there is simply less opportunity to blackout large enough portions of the screen to make any kind of power savings possible. You could make it happen, but you more than likely would hate how it looks, and you’d probably experience eye strain reading white text in an ocean of black.
I have the 2021 Swift X variant with the 5800U and 3050tI. They overbuilt that model as I'm able to unlock the GPU to a higher 45+5W wattage and am able to cool the 5800U at overclocked and undervolted settings that adjust per game profile. I have also since doing all that added my own thermal pads and added storage. It seems like their philosophy took a 180 for this years model.
i buy a lot of laptops and yeah there are very few small form factor laptops with replaceable ram, the larger gaming and workstation machines tend to have that functionality but with a small hit to portability.
Could you please note the amount of performance cores and efficiency cores? Seems like a nice laptop, RTX 4050 is enough given the chassis and requirements for a user. I understand the need to compare it to a Macbook, but it doesn't have MacOS and getting a Linux distro on a new laptop like this can be a hit or miss. Not that it isn't impossible, of course. The M3 Pro is $1999 USD (pre-sales tax), which has 18GB of uRAM that can be delegated to the CPU or GPU (in some ways an advantage). Those new qualcomms from Microsoft with an equivalent spec is $1999 USD (pre-sales tax) with 32GB of uRAM and 1TB. So imo that might have an edge if gaming is a necessity, because with compute only applications you'll likely be fine. Especially if those laptops are better than what Alex determined for this model (e.g. keyboard, speaker, build quality, thermal cooling). The advice to go for the $799 USD might sound nice, but we don't know if that laptop's screen and thermals are as good as this model.

HP laptops in the late 2000s always had subwoofers, why can't we bring those back. Even my predator Helios 500 which did say it had a subwoofer, was very underwhelming.
Just makes me miss when Huawei was sold in the US, their laptops were great
I agree thats a fantastic display. Makes that wallpaper pop.
this review is confusing, given the price which seems too high for the experience you just dunked on through the entire video
I couldn't spot any positives.
Can you guys review the lenovo xiaoxin 14 pro? It is only available in China but i heard very good things about it, I also heard people call it the macbook killer for cheap😯
Acer has the low end reputation but I am pretty happy with my Swift Go 14 2024. Some software hiccups on occasion but overall I'm pretty happy with it for $650.
@woodmanvictory Every non-Apple company is low-end reputation.
@@AnonymousChannel512 Apple is still selling 8GB of memory for $1000 in 2024. They may need to do some self reflection if they think that is appropriate
i bought the i7 variant of the swift x and it’s been a great machine
Did Alex even check the script before they start shooting?
I expect the battery in this laptop to die out within a year and barely last 1 hour at best from a full charge. Like every other laptop from Acer.
When tuxedo computers Pulse 14 gen 4 with a AMD 8845HS stomps on this acer especially with overkill cooling even during summer.
Is Acer as dumb as a trash can? Couldn’t they have put in 2 fans, a higher tdp, better webcam, better build quality, and better speakers?!
This is ridiculous!
The design of this laptop reminds me of my dell studio 15 from the windows vista days.
Is it just me or did they change the video title 😂😂😂😂
I think it was something like "A macbook for windows users"
your colleagues are not wrong for scoffing at this, this is worse than a macbook in every way except maybe the OS depending on who you ask
The webcam looks possibly worse than mine that is on my many, many years old laptop that was around $700 when it was new. That's fairly unacceptable for a laptop that expensive and new.
I wouldn't get this just due to the wattage for graphics card haha. I used a 16' Macbook Pro M3 Pro with 36gb of ram but before you think I'm scoffing Alex, I still use my Gigabyte Aorus 15p XD with 11th gen i7 and a RTX 3070 which does fine for my gaming needs.
60W is perfectly fine for even more CUDA cores than 4070 has, RTX 4000 Ada SFF is an amazing card, you can't get a better one than this one modded for passive cooling, so using the same config on a laptop would be fine too (if you can keep it cool quietly, hint: you can't, laptops barely handle 35W total, not to mention 60W on GPU alone)
I'd love to see alex contend a macbook against the new lenovo thinkbook 13x gen 4......that thing is the real macbook competitor in terms of looks....might even beat it
Any alternatives for this kind of notebooks!? I want a 14" with a dGPU... -.-" But not small throttling jet engine
did the title of the video just change???
Yes
MacBooks are perceived as being too expensive. It's those alternatives that reveal how reasonable Apples prices actually are.
How do y'all get 7+ Hours of battery life with a dedicated GPU in a laptop. I'm so confused. I've never seen a laptop with a dedicated GPU irl that has exceeded an hour of battery life
Every time I see a laptop with Windows I'm a bit disappointed. Every manufacturer should have it's own OS
are you trolling or what ?
I’m surprised by the comments, I own one of these (with i7) and it is fine, i upgrade frequently and havent noticed anything majorly negative
edit: mine does have a 4050 instead of 70 so maybe that’s where mine improves. i use it for 3d arcgis, not gaming
Where's Alex's baseball hat???
If you want something you can compare to a MacBook, this ain't it. I am primarily a Mac user, but always keep a Windows system around for specific tasks, primarily gaming. If you are a Mac user and looking for something that has a similar build quality, the new Asus ProArt PX13 is a pretty amazing piece of hardware. Windows is still pretty terrible, but but the hardware has been great the last week or so that I have spent with it.
Not sure if it's applicable to all gamers, but I installed Windows on my MacBook instead. Every time I want to play games, I just dual boot into it. It was a hassle to install though because windows didn't want to install through bootcamp and when installing through a windows usb I also had to load an ssd driver (I didn't know that was even a thing 😶).
“Vape pen “ 👌 very nice
