Yakuza 0 - Boss Battles: 16 - Lao Gui (LEGEND)

- Majima's final boss. Lao Gui, the most expensive hitman in all of Asia, hired by Sohei Dojima to end whomever he wants dead.
For some odd reason, I think they have forgotten to replace Sam Lee's voice with Lao Gui's XD
UPDATE: His voice has been fixed in a recent update.
Imagine being the best and most expensive hitman ever with a sword and a gun and be defeated by an insane yakuza with a bat and a knife
It’s just like what they say; “There’s always someone bigger and badder than you”
Humiliating, but hey, if I were Lao Gui, I would be honoured to be destroyed by a true badass. Still humiliating as hell though.
And breakdancing. Can't forget the breakdancing.
Who would win?
Asia's Most Expensive Hitman vs One mad dog with epic breakdancing skills
@@salt8606 The power of groove
Notice how Lao Gui intentionally missed awano’s vial organs. It’s an almost perfect circle around his heart and lungs, just to make him suffer longer
He isn't just your average Hitman
He's a Damn Sadist
@@thiscommonsinkt3367 Never mess with sadists with medical knowledge.
Awano may still be alive, Kashiwagi approved hhahaaha.
Come to think of it, Awano, being not only a lieutenant, but also a muscle mountain, could still be valuable to Sohei, so despite the amount of bullet wounds - they weren't mortal, he could still recover. The final blow with needles was when it became clear that Awano switched sides.
@@thiscommonsinkt3367 hell, even agent 47 thinks this is a bit too far
Do think Lao Gui may be the one enemy only Majima can battle. As much faith as I have in Kiryu, I do feel the difference in style to Majima makes the difference here cause Lao Gui needs no monster to take him on, it requires a genuine mad man.
Yeah, not to mention that Kiryu's style of fighting is more of a traditional, hand-to-hand combat style while Lao Gui fights quick, dirty and underhanded. He's more or less his exact opposite if you think about it, and I'm not just talking about their fighting styles here.
@Gold Star Gaming kiryu could beat him but it'd require one of those last minute friendship saves that always happens
Opponent would be know different! Kiryu has survived stabs and bullets, not to mention his komaki style and strength would due just fine here IMO. Would require a slight adjustment to his tactics but many opponent required kiryu to take a step back and "power up" or readjust.
Kiryu vs Lao gui =kiryu
Kiryu hasn't met komaki yet in this game. I still think this younger kiryu would whoop lao gui ass though. Dude is the literal definition of a tank.
@@joshwhite557 True but the problem is that even tanks have limitations. And here we have Lao Gui who gives no damn about honour or fist fights. Not even Kiryu should survive bullets, blades, claws in addition to the dirty style. Majima has the benefit here cause of a different style and mindset to deal with Lao Gui.
Hence how the two final bosses are complete opposites.
Kiryu and Shibusawa was savage but nobody went out to use full out dirty tactics. It was legit style.
Majima and Lao Gui was more going raw and feral cause of a different battle approach and pride didn't matter.
That is why I am suggesting Kiryu would lose to Lao Gui. He has the skill to take on Lao Gui in fist fights but does 0 Kiryu have the mindset and necessary skill to take on a fully armed Lao Gui who does not care about fighting with honour and pride but will do everything and anything not to beat him up but to kill him? Mind you, the No. 1 assassin in asia too so not some battle scrub either.
2:56 This part gave me goosebumps.
Thats like some anime shit 😂😂
I just noticed how it kinda looked like 'yin and yang' kind of symbolism. Seems like Lao Gui is supposed to be Majima's dark reflection, a real assassin that will not hesitate to kill unlike him, with a very unusual and unpredictable fighting style to boot.
It's kinda similar to how Kiryu had to beat Shibusawa in a dragon vs dragon fight.
@@lyonvensa holy shit, that's true!
That's rad!!
@@lyonvensa And you can also make that symbolism for Awano too: As it was described in another comment, Hiroki Awano is the gilded cage personified, a man who became corrupted by the glitz Majima was so desperate to escape from. And Lao Gui is a dark future: So in order to defeat his future, Majima has to defeat his past, which is Awano.
Majima: "I'm draggin' you to hell's deepest ditch, Dojima!"
Nishiki: "That's a great idea for later."
God I love sera in this game

Man, If That Shit Didn't Came, Nishiki Wouldn't Have Been Dead Right now, Neither Majima

I love how you swapped to Mad Dog style in the last phase. The Heartless Hitman vs. The Mad Dog. A clash of two monsters.
No matter how expensive you are, if you don't have rank below your name, you're like normal mobs
The music that plays during the first phase of Majima’s fight with Lao Gui fits so well. It’s a formidable tone for a formidable villain. I was definitely intimidated at first when things first kicked off. My favorite boss fight in Yakuza 0 for sure. Wish we got to see more of Lao.
Man remembered his spare pistol 3 minutes into beat down haha
Idk why, but I love the fact that despite these two talk different languages and heir from different cultures, they both know only one of them will leave that room alive.
Man i must admit that first combat sequence you made here is pure art ♥

Lao Gui looks like Lurch from the Addams family
i destroyed him with the sacrifice of 3 hours fighting mr shakedown and 2 hours of upgrading mad dog to level 50
I like how Lao Gui looks like an ogre but just has a generic "Steve" Chinese voice actor. Or I guess it would be like Chang.
Im just gonna say it: Majima is way better in yakuza 0 personality wise than the rest of the series. Way more badass here.
That first combo at the beginning was nuts
Love the aspect between each character's respective final bosses. We get Dragon vs. Dragon, and Demon vs. Demon.
More like Hitman vs Hitman
Sad Cross but Majima didn’t kill anyone the whole game so not really hitman vs hitman
@@AskwhoQ I saw another comment that said Lao Gui possibly mirrors what Majima WOULD have become if he didn't spare Makoto
Christian Calso I can actually see that
Majima is already somewhat unhinged after a year of torture and having one of his eyes gouged out, all for disobeying orders to join his sworn brother instead of leaving him to die alone on that raid. I don't think it's too far fetched for him to have ended up going down that dark path if he killed Makoto. We see the inner conflict when he first rescues Makoto and is holding his tanto above her while she is unaware, clutching his leg, scared and crying. From memory it was the closing cutscene of Chapter 4. If he had gone through with it while he was in such a conflicted state, one can only imagine the shit it would have done to him. Maybe he becomes properly insane instead of just a slightly loony guy playing up his persona, or maybe he can't live with it and offs himself. The latter really doesn't seem like his style but again who knows what may have happened.
Tl;dr: Game has damn good writing, especially where Majima is concerned
"if i had a quarter for every time a guy stood in front of me in a wide open arm stance to take a hail of bullets for me, i would have 2 quarters which isn't much but its weird that it happened twice"
*sad nishitani noises*
(Doofinschmirts liked that.)
In the same game too. Damn, I know Majima has plot armor but come on.
Majima called Awano a meatshield for Dojima and the sad thing is that he litteraly became a MEATSHIELD. I almost cried when Awano got shot ;-;
I made sure to kill Lao gui with a heat action because he killed awano

I'm surprised that wasn't an instant death on Legend difficulty 4:04
Legend difficulty doesn't amp up the damage received much. The main difference is that there's no checkpoints, so if you die you start from a previous save. Which in Yakuza 0's case can be half an hour to an hour of progress. If not more sometimes.
@@CianaCorto technically yes it does. The enemies have much more HP you do less damage. They also deal a lot of damage to you
@@CianaCorto note to self: never play legend difficulty
@@UKEDNHAT7 it's p fun actually.
From someone who actually did the Platnum Trophy for Yakuza 0, the only problem with Legend difficult are the parts where the checkpoints reset will have you wanting to kill yourself.
There are 2 parts where this happens, the first one where you need to protect Makoto and the hitbox can sometimes fuck you up, and the car shooting part. The second one almost made me quit the trophy... if you die, get ready to see all cutscenes again... and you also have to be really careful on the part after that (Again, protecting Makoto).
Chances are if you are on Legend, you probably did all the Climax Battles, so you probably are really sharp on combat. So enemies and bosses are not much trouble, tbh.
You might wanna stock some Staminan Royale and the Death Saving Idol to avoid some bullshit. But it's overall a good challenge. I would recomend someone on doing it because is fun.
I just love how Lao Gui goes from this grim and stoic figure, to a whimpering mess by the end

I noticed something, just as Shibusawa has mirroring styles with Kiryu, Lao Gui does as well with Majima. His blades are almost similar to Majima's Mad Dog combined with Thug, the Sword and Gun is definitely the Slugger. The only style Lao Gui does not have is the Breaker, but this is because on Lao Gui's end, he has Kung-fu style moves which also mimics Thug a bit more closely.
Lao gui has some ground leg swipes and jumping spin attacks so that counts a bit as breaker, with the spin attack difference is that he uses it to generate force into his palm strikes, it's quite a badass technique

Honestly, I really prefer these kinds of the videos over the "No damage" ones. It feels more like an actual fight between equals, rather than a one man stomp by a sweaty nerd.
What the fuck? Sam Lee? Seriously?
I'm curious. Does Lao Gui keep the Japanese VA in cutscenes where he actually speaks or is it just this fight that he has the Chinese VA? Because if it's the latter than they might have just wanted to use a VA that spoke actual Chinese rather than badly accented Chinese. Otherwise it's just weird and inconsistent.
