The new firmware still requires a countdown, but it will let you interrupt the count down to go back to another mode (which will still need a countdown)if you accidentally switch modes. Windows remembers xinput devices and needs that delay to forget them. The new firmware should have slightly better performance in a few other areas. The biggest change is leaving the dongle powered down on the 4000T, instead of letting it power up another 12 seconds later. Retroarch allows Xbox series controllers to take the player 1 position from the board, and ignores the order from Windows, so I think it was better to leave it off.

When you say ‘needs to be in keyboard mode’ for gun games, if your gun had select/start/coin etc you would be fine?
