    How good the Yanks will be is directly related to whether these mashers will be patient at the plate, or just try to hit it out of the galaxy with every swing. Soto might be the best hitter ever if he remains patient. His best years were down years relatively for his power numbers, but on base, slugging, and batting average were at the top of the league. It just sucks that he plays for the most hated team in baseball.

      Then going down the order you have a healthy Rizzo, then Torres, then Verdugo and then Stanton.
      And even as god awful as Stanton was last year, he still hit 24 tanks and drove in 60 in roughly 60-70% of a season. So him potentially being in the 7 hole could be scary.

    Can you explain what all the baseball stats mean, it’s just numbers to me and makes no sense. Like HR pretty obvious but the rest, noooo idea

    • @snerdterguson
      @snerdterguson 3 месяца назад

      RBI is Runs Batted In, this applies to when a batter hits the ball (whether for a hit or an out that is not the third of the inning), draws a walk or is hit by a pitch and as a result, a teammate scores a run. In the event the run scores as a result of a fielding error, no RBI is earned.
      Runs are when you safely cross home plate.
      Batting average is the pct of times you get a base hit in your At Bats. As an example, if a batter goes 1 for 3 in a game, that day they batted roughly .333. On Base Percentage is similar, but this takes into account the number of times yo safely reach base on a base hit, walk or hit by pitch. So if the same player who went 1 for 3 in his at bats also had drawn 2 walks, that would mean the were on base 3 of their 5 plate appearances for an OBP of .600
      (Walks/HBP do not count as an at bat, but as a plate appearance. All at bats are also plate appearances but not all PAs are ABs.)
      Slugging is more confusing, but the same basic idea. In this stat, the highest total you can have is 4.000
      For this stat, a single is worth 1.000, double worth 2.000, triple 3.000 and Home Run 4.000 while any at bat that doesn't result in a base hit is worth 0.000
      You then add the totals up and divide by the number of ABs. For example, a player who goes 4 for 5, hitting for the cycle (this is when you get one of each of the four types of base hits in a single game) would have 4 + 3 + 2 + 1 + 0 / 5 which would give a slugging percentage of 2.000.
      OPS is simply OBP plus Slugging. So a player with an OBP of 400 and slug of 600 would have an OPS of 1.000
      I would go on into some stats for hitting and then pitching, but I have to get to work.
      There are several sites with some great info on standard statistics and more advanced statistics and metrics.
      I recommend BaseballReference.com
      BaseballSavant.com
      Fangraphs.com
      All three of these sites have some great information.

    Nobody scared of that lineup

  • @t.d.2016
    @t.d.2016 3 месяца назад

    Yanks could be WS contenders, but they can just as easily crash and burn. Soto and Judge, if healthy, will smash it, but what about the rest? Pitching will depend massively on Rodon and Nestor. Will they be good this season? Rodon was utter trash last season. Stroman, too, had a miserable 2nd half of last season. Bullpen will also not be as good as last year with King gone.
    As for hitting, it's much more optimistic, but there are still some question marks. Torres seems to be the only guy, other than them two, who you can call "above average" in terms of hitting. We don't know if Rizzo will be good. DJLM? Volpe? Stanton? The latter hit .191 last season, that's just pathetic despite the pop.
    My prediction is they'll finish 2nd behind O's, and they'll exit at the ALCS against the Astros, again lol.

    • @snerdterguson
      @snerdterguson 3 месяца назад

      DJ, Rizzo, Verdugo, Soto, Judge, Torres are all better than MLB average to varying degrees. Austin Wells seems like he's likely to be above average offensively for a catcher. When you factor in his stolen bases, Volpe is also an above average offensive player, even with his average where it was, which is almost certainly going to improve. Then there's Dominguez who will return, and he seems like he will be pretty far beyond average.
      Their lineup is LOADED.

    • @t.d.2016
      @t.d.2016 3 месяца назад

      @@snerdterguson Rizzo, sure, but he looked terrible after the injury, and we haven't seen him back in action yet. So he's a question mark at this point.
      I don't agree on DJLM. He had a really good August last season, but overall he's been well below average. Guy is 36 and injury prone as hell. Big question mark.
      Volpe is a good prospect, but his output was downright pathetic, even with the stolen bases. Can he jump from 0.209 to 0.260? Sure. But he's just as likely at this point to have another garbage year.
      I'm not saying they're terrible or doubting them. I'm just saying there is huge unpredictablilty about them. They can be the best lineup in the league, but there's also a sizable chance they're going to be Judge-Soto and inshallah.

      I've been watching baseball.since 1987 and I have never seen a team have everything go right for them like it did for Baltimore last year. Even the 98 Yankees had a huge injury to their best offensive player (Bernie Williams).
      The Os had like no injuries, every one of their young kids was a success story.
      It is very likely, in fact already playing out with their ST injuries thus far, that the team will not be as blessed this season. One or more of the kids will take a step back in all likelihood.
      They are still a very good team, but they got incredibly lucky in comparison to their competition which got blown up by injuries everywhere.
