  • 'Once Upon a December' played by Emile Pandolfi, video 13 of his 'At Home' series.
"Dancing bears, painted wings, things I almost remember'
Full playlist of the series is at • Emile Pandolfi - Playl...
Steven Flaherty's song 'Once Upon a December' was sung by Liz Callaway in the 1997 animated movie Anastasia. The song was nominated for an Academy Award as 'best original song' but the prize went to Flaherty's second song from the Anastasia movie 'Journey to the Past'.
The music box style of the opening bars in this Pandolfi arrangement have made it a favorite with people who recall the palace ballroom music box scene ... "Dancing bears, painted bears....things I almost remember".

Emile, thank you for your beautiful artistry. I studied classical and sacred piano for 18 years from 6 years old. I gave it up in my early twenties as I no longer felt inspired. Watching you emote life into this music has made me want to sit down to the keys again. You've brought tears, memories, joy, and a sense of musicianship back to my life. I thank you. Blessings and prosperity to you!

Thank you SO much for these “At Home” concerts. I have enjoyed them beyond measure! In fact, I study them. Wikipedia says that you taught yourself how to play by ear. I have always longed to play by ear, but didn’t think it was possible, so knowing that you did really inspires me to try to learn how. So, thank you from the bottom of my heart for giving me hope! By the way, you remind me a lot of my husband (now deceased), who could play almost as good as you and who smiled exactly like you do when you smile with your mouth closed. I sure miss seeing that smile, so I like to watch you to fulfill both my dream of playing by ear and of seeing my husband again. Have I said “thank you”? Thank you!!!!! Please keep doing these concerts. They mean the world to me.

Whenever I am stressed out or angry or whatever, I really like listening to you play the piano. And using the word play to describe what you're doing seems so... inadequate? I'm not sure what descriptor to use, but I can plainly say I just really love your stuff. It's also really fun to watch you play it on these videos. I listen to my music on Spotify. Mihai! Thank you for that kind message! The fact is, yes, it IS a difficult arrangement! But look at it his way: If you start today with lessons and practice, who knows how long it will take to learn, let's say a couple of years (I have no idea of your current level of playing!-could be more, could be less) But then you have it for the rest of your life! Someone said to me one time, "Yeah, but if it takes me five years, I'll be (in her case) 55 years old". And I said, "How old will you be in five years if you DON'T learn it?" In other words, don't thibnk about it, just start. And the very best of luck!
