  • Japan's majestic Mt. Fuji was some 700,000 years in the making, but on Tuesday morning, it was gone.
    At least on one side of a busy road, views of the 12,388-foot-tall symbol of Japan and the Lawson convenience store beneath it have vanished, as officials finished erecting a barrier to obstruct a photo spot that had become a magnet tourists.
    For locals, the mass of visitors and their refusal to obey rules on littering and parking had become a nuisance and traffic hazard.

      I think the problem is also more so that tourists are trashy. Regardless of what designated area they are given, they are going to dirty and trash it up
      I don't think it's entirely their fault though. I just don't think people are prepared for just how different the culture really is. I'm from Florida and have been to Japan twice, beautiful place but I had no idea how many rules there were regarding trash let alone other things
      I think people either don't bother to learn the rules or think "what's the big deal?" and ignore them anyways

    Why not impose massive fines for illegal parking and littering; then employ a few wardens to enforce them. Not only might this solve the problem, it could also turn a profit for the community.

    The recent weakness of the Japanese yen has made travel to Japan more affordable, attracting an unprecedented number of tourists. This influx includes individuals who may not have previously been able to afford the trip. Unfortunately, this has also led to concerns about the behavior and etiquette of some visitors, highlighting the importance of respect and manners while traveling.

    • @paulos9900
      @paulos9900 5 дней назад

      The reason this spot was so popular was because people liked the image of the shop with the mountain behind it in the photos. Apparently both things are considered “very Japanese” and quite iconic symbols of Japan.
      The mountain also looked like it was sitting on top of the store.... I suppose it's kind of like that in the same way people like making it look like they are holding the Eiffel tower or Leaning Tower of Pisa in photos.
      Anyway, the types of tourists who cause problems there and harass Geisha in Kyoto for a photo aren't going to have a problem with making a hole in that fabric sheet to get their photo.
