Same situation here. The waits are horrid, but I had it relatively lucky. Thankfully in my case, my tumor was growing super fast, was showing all the classic signs of cancer, and its placement was causing necrosis, so they removed it within three days of seeing a specialist. But all the waiting on the insurance, waiting on imaging, waiting on the biopsy, waiting for healing enough to attend post-surgery cancer treatment, etc., those waits are something I wouldn't wish upon anyone.

Same here, lost righty in 2012 to a nonseminoma. Fortunately I found the lump very early so I was cured within a year, but if I missed it for even another month it probably would have hit my lungs.
The waiting really is the worst, the periods of uncertainty. It was better knowing I had cancer, knowing I had to have chemo, and just being able to focus on that and do that. And chemo itself, man... It's just waiting incarnate. Sitting in a chair for six hours a day getting slowly poisoned back to health.
Funniest thing about it though was the hair loss. Most people don't realize that it's not JUST the hair on your head, it's all of it... and it doesn't start where you'd expect! That gave me a laugh.

Honestly, the Plan A surgery was so clever. When you mentioned a lot of small incisions to take out a big cyst I wasn't so sure, but managing to float it and put it in a bag, popping it and pulling it out isn't something I would have considered. Kudos to your original surgeon for recommending a different more experienced one.

14:48 "Where are your organs?" * Vsauce theme starts playing in the imaging room *
What incredible strength to make it through the way she did. And what an indictment of American healthcare -- not just how long it took for anyone to figure out what was going on, but also that critical procedures still took months after it was clear that the delay could literally kill the patient. If someone with a great job and (presumably) great insurance still ends up in that position, I guess the average person had better hope to not get sick.
I can't imagine what it would be like to live with the knowledge of cancer growing inside you for months, unable to do anything but wait. And someone managed to keep an audience entertained while streaming throughout the whole ordeal? Powerful Geega!

I got so miserable by November that I caved and finally went to get checked out. Turns out my whole left lung was collapsed and filled with fluid, to the point it shoved my esophagus a few centimeters and was even pushing up against my right lung. Immediately go to the hospital, the run some tests, poke a giant catheter into my back to drain my lung. The second day, biopsy results came back; Stage 4 Hodgkin's Lymphoma. 4 years, lots of chemo, a recursion, and a bone marrow transplant later, and I'm cancer free. Life isn't always easy, but hot damn was it worth fighting for. I'm glad to still be here, and I'm glad you're still with us, too, Geega.

I'm glad you had things go well and are able to laugh and talk about it now, and sorry you had to go through with it in the first place. The nurse called it a tumor b/c apparently, it was larger than it should have been... Thankfully, test were negative but it definitely made me think about my other symptoms that occurred during the past 3 or so years. I'm planning to speak with my GP some more about it but seeing your video gives me a little more confidence and I'm a little less scared about possible outcomes. I had blood coming out of my mouth and a quick x-ray made it very obvious something was terribly wrong (giant black mass hovering around my lungs) so i got to speedrun the wait list for things like CT-scans, MRI-scan and biopsy etc. which was a life saver since i was *technically* at stage 4 at that point, Been cancer free for about half a year now.
The dark humor feels very relatable, Its almost disturbing how fast one just kind of comes to terms with it not saying its universal but having spend allot of time in the hospital and talking with other patients who were terminal but even they just kinda go "it is what it is" and carry on with their day like its just another tuesday sitting around the lunch table chatting and joking around.

I wouldn't jump to that conclusion right off the bat. It's possible, but it is possible that it just wasn't showing enough for the original doctors to take it for any concern. Cysts are pretty normal, and there's a lot of absolutely harmless reasons for bloating and the like. The fact that they tested and eliminated a lot of the 'simple' possibilities is likely what helped the female doctor get to the proper conclusion.

I've definitely experienced this. It's been over 10 years since I first got sick and it's still being blamed on my uterus even though my gyno says everything is fine. I'm pretty sure I had SIBO and knocked it out from a couple years of the low fodmap diet and then a few weeks of a DIY elemental diet(miserable, can't recommend) but I think that was a symptom not the root problem because I still get so sick whenever I try to exert myself and just am randomly in pain sometimes.
Maybe I'd get different answers now that I'm over 30, but my more recent attempts have been based on my weight(which is only because I can't exercise) and still no testing. Even when I ask them to note in my chart that testing was explicitly refused.

    Yo, same!
Cancer absolutely changes your mind about the world. My most vivid memories are from that time and I know how it felt to be free of the tumor and thinking now I have time to do all the things I dreamed about while having it. Sadly, some of those things didn't come to fruition yet because the post-cancer high also goes away after half a year and you get into the day-to-day again.

Beat lymphoma last year so this was a cool story to hear. Always love hearing other survivors develop that same seemingly morbid sense of humor over the course of treatment. I also wanted to keep the lymph node they took out, but alas, I couldn’t. I *did* get to keep my chemo port though, I have it in a urine sample jar on my shelf.

Damn, that is crazy. Honestly, for a moment I thought you were into the medical area since you are so well informed about many things surrounding the issue but just goes to show how much you look into it. And while with cancer, knowing sometimes is not half the battle (sometimes you just rolled bad RNG and there is nothing else to do when you find out), in this cases, knowing does take away some of the uncertainty and anxiety of things.
Cheers for the battle won and cheers for keeping up with the check ups. I've seen cases of people who skip the check ups and find out too late they are in Round 2, which is pretty unfortunate when some of this problems can be solved with the scheduled check ups.

I'm so glad things were taken care of (after waiting forever). I can tell you, my mental would NOT allow me to stream and stay positive like you did if i were in the same situation. Hopefully you keep getting stronger, healthier, and all of this can be in the past.

Jeesus Christ. I cannot even imagine the amount of constant stress and anxiety this must have been causing at the time. Like carrying around a time bomb that you KNOW is going to go off but you can't read the remaining time and you can't jostle it because that could set it off too... It must have felt like having such a MASSIVE weight removed, not just literally from your abdomen, but mentally and emotionally from your shoulders. I'm glad you made it through it all and that you seem to be doing well and are able to look back and laugh about it now. Keep being you, Geega.

I am going to have to stay at the hospital in about a month for some testing on my brain that should hopefully not be too bad, but it's scaring me regardless. I could relate to a lot of the waiting for tests and doctor's appointments talks (4 months of living your normal life after a doctor told you "Yeah, something is not right" and an actual answer is very stressful) and eventually thought "If she survived all that, I'm going to be fine." Thank you for sharing!

You must have been some sort of med tech, or working in IT for some sort of Medical facility if you could read an Ultrasound that well yourself. I'm amazed you could be as calm as you seem when talking about and going through the various procedures you went through (MRI's aren't fun) and having to wait soooo long to even get the procedures needed to properly diagnose your condition. I'm amazed you were so coherent during all that and not absolutely freaking out.
I was born with Cerebral Palsy - not terrible, I have full normal use of my limbs and body, no spasming or uncontrollable movements - had to have my heel cords lengthened surgically at age 5 which allowed me to walk as I grew up - hated it at the time and woke up for about 10 seconds during that surgery too (yeah, remember that to this day) - and yeah, I can related to walking up from surgery and immediately throwing up - (nurse was there with a bedpan ready) - but it allowed me to walk semi normally and I even played basketball for my school in Jr. High (MANY decades ago now) - and I've had my share of medical issues still related to my CP and two other surgeries that doctors would improve my walk and balance issues more (big surprise they didn't and with said doctors claiming yeah 90% chance it would help this but I guess I always rolled a 91 or above, that's why they call it ' medical practice' ) - but yeah, with what you were going through (and the amount of time you had to wait), amazed you kept it all together as well as you did, and glad to hear you came out the other end okay; that it's behind you and you're having a good recovery; and I hope you remain in remission. (Oh, I work in IT as well.)

Hi, fellow one ball-er! Lost my left ovary to a cyst that was over 8" wide and filled with >2L of fluid (and also had hair in it, wtf), as a then 5'9" 130lbs woman. I had excessive bloating that wouldn't go away either. Obgyn palpated my uterus during routine exam and asked if I was pregnant. Ultrasound just showed a black abyss with a white border (nothing floating in mine), MRI few days later showed it had consumed my entire left ovary, and I had the C-section style surgery instead of the originally planned laparoscopy. :( 3 days in the hospital + 6 weeks recovering. Was rough. No cancer, in my case; just a cyst that never stopped growing...

22:10 That is so true, and people don't really think about that. Trying to stitch an area of high fat content is an absolute nightmare.
I had a massive cut in my leg, precisely where there was a bit more fat (not a lot mind you, just not only skin, muscle, and a tiny layer fat), and the wound kept opening.
So the fact that you were lean certainly made the stitching and recovery much faster and easier.

I got extreme sharp pain in my abdomen and constantly throwing up so ended up in the ER. Turned out it was an ovary cyst. Mine ruptured and I lost a lot of blood, but thankfully I was already hospitalized. Got emergency C-section the very next morning. I have no time to process everything, suddenly woke up as one-baller 😂
