    Thanks for coming to watch! I appreciate the support! Thanks to everyone that gave criticism on the hermit crab setup! I listened to YOU, and now hopefully these crabs live a better life!

    Kuddos to for learning and changing up some stuff... I think I might have commented some recommendations on your prior video... what I may not have said is that I did all the wrong things when my kids wanted their first hermit crabs... what I learned is there are alot of hermit crab owners that are passionate about their care... I felt attacked when I first started... but like you was willing to learn and change things up for the health of the crabs. So happy to see more crabs getting better care and happy homes... loved your video.

    I highly recommend watching Crab Central Station on RUclips. They offer some great information.

    Majority of pet stores give wrong advice, pellets are actually a bad food source for many animals, ie: tortoises, turtles, lizards etc.. the pet stores advice they give is simply due to lack of research and profit. Keep up the good work Chris, love ur videos!

    I’m so happy to see you changed their set up! I just want to recommend that make sure you watch the humidity in there. They need the proper amount of heat and humidity! Good job bud!

    Hey.check out crab central station. They have great advice. Hermits don't usually prefer those shells.. they like turbos . You need a heat mat above the substrate across the back . You will need a hydrometer. Sphagnum moss is a great way to keep humidity and they like to nest in it. The eco earth should have been soaked before you mixed it. Sandcastle consistency. Also raise the pools on a shelf..buried pools cause flooding and also tunnel collapse when you take them out to change the water. Give them worm castings,eggshells or cuttlebone and green sand. They need these things at all times. Happy crabbing

    Also, try some eco earth to mix in as it really helps keep the tunnels from caving in. And you can put in safe edible plants for the hermits!

    I love all the changes that you did for the health and happiness of you crabs. You should look up hermit crab shells 101 by Crab Central Station here on RUclips so that you know the right kind and size of shells that you need for your crabs. They also have a lot of other good hermit crab info.

      Didn't you just hear him say that he watched their videos?

    • @jennarider6285
      @jennarider6285 2 года назад

      @@Miamack22 yes I did, but that was him talking about their diet, this video that I suggested was from 2-3 years ago about shells and he probably had not seen it because it was so long ago and covered by lots of other videos. In fact I had a hard time finding it with looking it up without knowing what it was called. He also just says that he heard from the comments that the painted shells are toxic not that he learned it from one of their videos.

    I’m so glad they have a better set up now! Again thank you for improving your care it’s a great example to the community. Etsy has amazing pre made hermit crab food and shell. Those shell might be a bit too big for your hermits. There is a way to measure them and get the perfect sized shells for them.

    I loved my crabs as a kid, I gave them some new shells to pick from but unfortunately they fought over the shells whilst I was asleep. One died and the other lost an arm. 😭

    If your shrimp are de-shelled that may be a problem. Maybe look into what calcium they need, ie cuttle bone, or crushed oyster shells or crushed egg shells? Great job for learning something new and bettering yourself and your animals lives!

    PetSmart and PetCo shouldn't be in the business of living creatures. They tell their employees false info, dont allow their "product" to be taken care of and push crap on people who dont know better. They purchase wild hermits whom has had their shells forcibly broken so they have no choice but to chose the painted ones. Which are toxic! If a Pet store cannot ethically source or take care of live creatures, they have NO business in pet husbandry. And NOTHING is going to change until people stop buying from them. Why can't ppl get mad about this like the nerds at Wizards of the Coast? I think Crab Central Station actually sells/breeds captive bred hermits, so no wild hermit is removed. and REMEMBER! if you see a shell on the beach, leave it be. You never know if a hermie might need it

    I paused the video to read the comments and I wouldn't call them mean or negative. Seemed like sound advice. This happens across all animal communities as a lot of pet stores have the wrong information, just to sell crap you don't need. They actively sell cages that are too small for hamsters/rabbits/guinea pigs that they market towards kids for example. It's really sad.

    You sound pretty sarcastic throughout the first half of the video and all of those "negative" comments could easily have been avoided by actually doing some proper research beforehand. And come on man, blaming Petsmart, that's something only PC would do. Your old and responsible enough to know better and you are not new to the hobby.
