  • A far smaller 8" mahseer was found to chase and bite the tinfoils and the balas for 3 days in 1800 gal. So they had to go into a 240 gal until a better option presents itself.

    Have you thought about a circular tank for the balas? They need room and love to swim; not mosey along, swim. Same for the other schooler in there.

    • @Fish-Story
      @Fish-Story  2 года назад

      They had swam in 25,000 gal for 2.5 years. They can tolerate the 240 gal temporarily.

      Sorry, forgot your initial question - yes, circular tank shapes are great for the vast majority of fish it seems but the cons are that they are not viewer and space friendly.

      Thank you for the warning. Will watch out for it. So far been ok. They would swim away from an approaching human in the 25K and the 1800 gal but in the 240 there is not much where to swim away, so they seem to be getting used to humans passing by close.

    As a guy who’s had all sorts of monster fish, I doubt I’ll ever have one again, and I really don’t think they should be readily available for sale. Special order, but not in a tank at Petco where they’re doomed.

  • @scoobusanubus737

    I honestly thought they'd do great in there because bala sharks and tinfoil barbs are typically good dither fish for aggressive fish like larger cichlids. Then again I don't know if this is expected behavior from the mahseer.

      I would but there are 12 more mahseer in the 1800 gal. Some or them could have the same ideas as the butthole I caught, or maybe he wasn't the only one anyway. In any case, I am not transferring 12 largeish mahseer from 1800 gal growout.

    • @Fish-Story

      So far it hasn't been. In most of the smaller tanks we have common pleco to keep the tanks clean. Prochilods and black shark keep everything squeaky clean in the 1800 gal. We have to wipe other tanks from the inside once in a few weeks.
