How did Musetti return those monster kicks to his backhand. Crazy hard for a OHBH.
As a OHBH’er myself, it’s important that you take the ball early and in front to neutralise it. Musetti has done an exceptional job at it in this match.
Props to the young Italian for clutching a win against an opponent whom you’d think would have better odds against him on grass, given his game style.
On grass the kick serve doesn't rear up as high, skids on so keeps lower than it would on clay
@@qualityshottennis A number of those serves were hit above the shoulder. So much for skidding and not bounding high. Musetti is 185cm tall, so not huge for a tennis player, but not a little guy.
@zweigackroyd7301 Shelton is huge. Some serves will still be above shoulder height, but the proportion of serves getting up above shoulder height compared to clay would've been lower. It's a well-known fact that clay is a lot more conducive to topspin and gets higher bounce compared to grass, which rewards generally flatter hitting and skids on more.
@@zweigackroyd7301much easier to slice a kick on grass than it is on clay…. so easier to neutralize.
Great grass court artistry from both.
Musetti looks a reluctant player at the net, sheltons game is more suited to grass.
Finally you didn't show the winner in the thumbnail...well done Tennis tv,better late than never❤
Bro shut up tennis TV actually listens to their fans and hasn’t shown the winner since last year so stop talking about things that you don’t know about
If they always put loser in thumbnail, that's also a spoiler.
Stupid comment. It is because black lives matter, okay??
@@virat5828 but if they vary it, then it doesn't :)
Tennis TV does a decent job of varying it. However, if they show the less popular player from a particular match on the thumbnail, then it definitely means that that player won lol
Grass court tennis is so entertaining. It has nice baseline rallies mixed in with shorter points and net play. The grass season should be longer than 6 weeks IMO.
Agree, at least 8 with a Masters in between
Totally agree, should be longer and have a masters 1000 too
The one handed backhand is alive and well!! Great match
But they will need to go through Novak test !
Am I crazy in thinking Musetti is the most promising player on ATP out of the ones with a OHBH? Stefanos is very good but his backhand is a weakness, guys like Shapovalov and Dimitrov are inconsistent as hell, Wawrinka and Gasquet are almost retired...
@@thevinisoyou would be correct
@@theviniso Not a bold prediction, considering he's basically the only young one-hander left (and maybe the last, who knows, especially considering the massive cluelessness in recent years in these debates about the OHBH). Tsitsipas and Shapovalov are now middle-aged players, and those old players (Dimitrov has been old and finished for years) will not win anything anymore. But Tsitsipas might still win something big, he's not completely done yet.
Grass court tennis is just so much entertaining. Welcome relief from the baseline banging.
Chissà se i commentatori inglesi capiscono le bestemmie di Musetti. Un Lord a Londra 😂
2:58 Musetti 😂🇮🇹
Bestemmione liberatorio
So cringe, especially in that accent lol
@@mfzoom5401shelton deserved tbh, the guy shuts almost every point
Good effort from Shelton! Excited to see how he goes at wimbledon
Shelton moves well, has monster serves and volleys well. I like watching him play.
From the highlights he seems to have all the skills. Maybe it's just a matter of time before he puts it all together and starts stinging together some wins like he did at AO. So, yeah, it will be nice to see how things go for him at Wimbledon.👍 Impressive that he's new to grass. Seems comfortable enough on it already.
Both players oozing sheer talent.. probably be playing each other in a Wimbledon final in the not so distant future
Doubtful, Musetti needs to improve his mentality a lot and Shelton needs to improve his return. Talented players yes, but a ways from competing at the highest level
@@roadtodawn8088 I completely agree. Musetti has a long way to go and I'm honestly skeptical that he would reach that point ever. His running backhand is almost always slice and that simply doesn't cut it in elite level, he has too many UFE's and his footwork is not that great either considering he is pretty fast.
Shelton is also quite talented but he oozes arrogance and has shown it in multiple occasions. If he keeps up, he will remain a mediocre player for sure.
@@ak-iy4ybyou've not watched many Musetti matches. I haven't missed one ever since I followed him back when he was nr 700 in the world.
@@sergiosimbula I've seen many Lorenzo's matches, and I agree he has a very long way to go. His inherently clumsy forehand technique, in particular, seems unfixable. That's an extremely huge handicap in modern tennis. His mentality is still very weak, he does not have that fight, grit in him (like many Italian and French players with a flair), makes lots of silly errors, his tactics are not great etc. But he's improving.
Oozing sheer talent? So, they have no experience in this game? Just picked up a racket first time?
BRAVO👏🇮🇹
Congrats Musetti🎾🔥
Players of my generation playing classical Serve & Volley Tennis on grass with huge serves and great net game like Shelton is an absolute treat to the eyes. Simply *chef's kiss*. Shelton has huge potential, I think he can cause some chaos, especially on grass. He reminds me of Ivanisevic. Its a shame that the Grass courts have become soooo slow though.
They haven’t become slow it’s a myth
@@lukeinvictusthat's interesting, cause I hear that claim all the time and never new where it came from. Do you maybe have a source one can look at on this topic?
@@paulpauvert4637eres a miscobception of "slowing down courts", like it's a permanent thing, every year they modify a little almost every surface, sometimes a little slower, sometimes a little faster, with highest or lower bounce, but it's just bs that narrativa that at some point the only thing they did is slowing down the courts for ever, thats not true at all
@@paulpauvert4637 ultimate tennis statistics has something called court speed index i believe
@@lukeinvictus It's not a myth, this has been extremely well documented and covered in about a trillion articles throughout the years. The Wimbledon organizers themselves have confirmed and explained how they slowed down the grass 20 years ago and why (to allow Spanish clay courters to play the tournament and be successful, too), the slower speed and higher bounce of modern grass in previous decades has been measured by machines, these figures are extremely well-known and often shown on TV etc. Wimbledon itself has been repeatedly measured the second slowest grand slam tournament after Roland Garros in court speed comparisons (some years falling into the "medium slow" category, that is, the second slowest after clay) etc. Of course the fact that they began using slower, bigger balls, played a huge (possibly even bigger) role in this, too. There is still fast grass, in Stuttgart. But that's not very relevant.
I like that shelton tries to play like it should be
Same!
Shame, I love seeing Shelton. He just needs to clean up his game a bit. What a powerhouse.
This kid is going to be a top 10 player in 2024 or 2025... What a powerhouse!
Oh, and skilled hand as well...
It’s also his first full year on tour though….
Obnoxious
"Look at the reaction!"
"DIOPORCO..."
Well done Lorenzo 👏🎾❤️
Wow, both so young and awesome--tennis does have a viewing future--love it !!!🎾🎾...
I like both players very much, something different from what we usually see
Those half volleys by Shelton are McEnroe feel type. Fabulous.
1:46 Monster kick
Bestemmione included😅
Good battle.
I hope Ben is encouraged that he can compete with anyone. He just needs to play those pressure points better. I'm buying the Shelton stock.
He did save 8/10 break points.....i would rather say he puts himself into danger too much 🥺
grande Lorenzo!!!
Shelton bulking up😮
I'm answering a question below as to how OHBH return kick serves. An agressive slice that you can't aim so much, but it may go at their feet, sharply crosscourt, of down the line. You may not win a lot of them, but enough to win. Mix in some drives and lobs, and you might get better. you should get better- at reading the serve.
Bravo Lorenzo!!!!❤🇮🇹
this was an incredible game!
match, too!
noticed loads of complaints later in year about Ben’s animated play( part of college tennis) and interesting to see Musetti demonstrate same animation on grass in UK … SEEMS SOME THINK BEHAVIOR IS TOO COMMON FOR THE GENTLEMEN’S GAME
That's some grown man tennis, front court work
Forzaa, Lorenzo❤
2:57 I don't understand what Musetti is screaming 🤔
🤣😂
“il mio posto, il mio posto. l’erba sulla quale mi piace tanto giocare”
He's celebrating the point
😂😂😂😂😂
Bestemmie, come al solito
1:17 That was Lin Dan-esque
Grass courts are entertaining.
Great stuff Lorenzo!😎
amazing
The high class in grass breath!
Great to see Bryan Shelton in Ben's box. Probably too early to be effects from his becoming exclusively Ben's coach on June 4, but it was really positive to see how much Ben fought in the third set after a very poor service game with two consecutive double faults. In most such third sets since the Australian Open, Ben just almost indifferently threw away the set (and match) after getting broken in the third. As Bryan has said, Ben has only scratched the surface of his potential. Let's hope Bryan can help him flourish, as Ben's tennis has been a bit stuck in the limbo of brilliance vs unforced errors and poor play choices for a while now. Playing like he played today, plus a bit more control, he could go deep at Wimbledon, as he seemed to have adapted very quickly to grass.
Ben ‘s first tournament on grass… thouht he hung in there pretty well with the very good Musetti
Shelton's ground game needs a lot of work. Really thought he didn't play his best, but good match
Musetti reminds so much of a young Pat Cash several decades ago!
Fantastic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 🙂
Is it just me or has Shelton shortened his forehand swing?
Hitting so hard at almost every shot, Shelton does remind me of the old Mark Philouppousis, Marat Safin and the likes of Paradorn Srichaphan
Ivanisevic
None of those 3 were left-handed.
Shelton needs to learn to be a bit more efficient in his finishers. Sometimes he is a bit too lazy and gives Musetti a chance to return the balls.
Can someone please tell me what Musetti said at 2:58 pls? I see everyone commenting that he's swearing and saying blasphemy
Unfortunately he's saying blasphemies. You don't want to know what he's saying...
Shelton needs a backhand fast.
3:23 Abrar
Have you noticed how usually the winner is featured in the thumbnail?
Ben just needs that McEnroe punch volley ,he should look up McEnroe, tomorrow once he has learned it he we be very, very dangerous .
awesome to see lorenzo teaching ben a lesson. fist pumping and shouting hard at the guy who always is vocal and fist pumps all over the place.
Yeah, there didn't see to be much love lost between the two.
@@blucat4They seemed fine at the net.
@@ddot9566 Yeah maybe I read too much into that first point, it wasn't that bad. 🙂
Good match Ben Shelton is improving on grass
Rune - Lorenzo
Take my 💴
2:58 musetti che bestemmia, che vergogna💀
This kid, Shelton, could go all the way at Wimbledon.
And yes I'm aware Musetti won today.
Are you american?
Shelton has some real attributes he could hone and improve a lot I think. Be interesting to see how he continues. Some shots here were very good. I think he'll need to work on consistency and selection and tactics and game management and general experience and focus.
Musetti is skillful but seem to have benefited from his acquired experience already but that back-hand seems like a liability for a whole 5-setter tournament imho.
Americans in a nutshell, hypong every half decent player they have thinking they Will dominate
...
@@angelob.7616Are u from any european country?
@@angelob.7616 English.
Are you presumptuous?
Mussetti the hottie
Like both these guys. After a year or 2 more of ATP experience, looks like Shelton has the goods to become the #1 American. The others have been too inconsistent.
No, korda if he avoids injuries has the game to be no.1
He will spend his entire career outside the top 50
Korda IMO
@@Mangoshake2021 He is already rank 35, so your scenario is impossible.
ok, pls, i can't be the only one, can ATP youtube STOP USING THE NOT THE WINNER IN THE FRONT PIC OF THE CLIP???????????????
musiti has becom respwct player hasnt he
Misleading thumbnail
The loser gets the photo 🤷🏻♂️
Chill with the darn adjectives
Damn, the guy with the top knot won 🤮
I feel Shelton is overhyped for someone who always loses early, never beats any top player. Yes he got to AO QF but it was pure luck. There's a lot to improve in his game.
Ok. Do you have any metrics on his hype? Never beats any top player? He beat Ruud.
You don’t get to the QF of a grand slam based in luck. He was grinding away and winning challengers the year before. He’s young and talented and has a great competitive spirit. I think in a few years he’ll be in the top 15.
@@garywheeler9465 Ruud is far from a top player on HC.
@@garywheeler9465 He is young American and is highly marketable and suprisingly reached QF of AO. That is why he is hyped. It is catering towards audience who wants to be his fans. That does not make him a better player. Agree he beat Ruud but he is the most overhyped and overrated player on the tour.
It's his first year on tour, playing the first ATP tournament on grass give him a break
Musetti noob
The less lazy people in the tournament the better
love the spirit and athleticism
The less obnoxious also
