    This is his best work for Givenchy (in my opinion). Too bad the public and some critics didn’t get it. Yes Suzy Menkes, I am talking about you.

      I love McQueen but it feels like you’re watching another of his own collection rather than a Givenchy one.

      @@musicsavage what would be the point of appointing new designers if not to change the direction of said fashion house? Lee said in interviews that he wanted to change Givenchy, and I'm sure that was the whole reason why they hired him in the first place. I would disagree with you, anyway, I see differences between his Givenchy shows and his own label, quite many, the overall vibe is different as well.

      @@kajcenkars What's the point of having a designer being appointed at a fashion house if it's to change its whole identity?
      We ask him/her to update its DNA to keep up with the "zeitgeist", not to drastically change it. Karl Lagerfeld did it very well at Chanel for example.

    "Eclect Dissect' was McQueen`s second collection for Givenchy. For this show McQueen`s art director Simon Costin imagined a fictional surgeon and collector who travelled the world collecting exotic objects and women, whom he took apart and reassembled in this laboratory. The runway show staged the return of these murdered women who come back to haunt the living. The models embodied their ghosts, dressed in the exotic garments collected by their murderer on his foreign journeys. Scottish tartan, Spanish lace, kimonos, Burmese necklaces and eastern folk dresses decorated with feathers and stuffed animals merge to outfits with a morbid aura. The mix of cultures is extended beyond fashion; the show also makes references to his own, british, culture (in the 19th century): the dissecting-reference to Jack the Ripper (who also influenced his graduation collection) and the 'women returning from the dead' motif from the Gothic Novel. McQueen is the only designer EVER to mix elements of Scotland, Spain and Asia - and it works! I love how the models act like victorian ladies, the Princess Leah hair and the Burka with the bird-cage on top! McQueen`s fantasy and courage to put traditional items into new contexts and mix cultures & times will be unrivalled for 100 years at least." - dresscodehighfashion.blogspot.com/2011/12/retrospective-givenchy-haute-couture

    Well, for starters, the inspiration of this collection was a surgeon and a collector who murdered and dissected women and they come back on the show to haunt the audience. The imagery does not evoke anything peaceful or good energies. Also in Mcqueen you have the element of many different religions, but for some reason he always portrayed the negative side of each in a glorified manner. And there's always the overt tone of trauma based mind control. That is why I made that statement.

    McQueen was simply McQueen here, very little has to do with Givenchy, I can see why his contract with the company wasn't renewed. His work was incredible, but all over the place.

    • @goldenglove4663
      @goldenglove4663 5 лет назад +1

      your face is all over the place.

    • @kajcenkars
      @kajcenkars Год назад

      His contract wasn't renewed, because he quite literally didn't want it to. His own label got acquired (he still had I think at least 40% though), which gave him the opportunity to focus on just that, do what he wants to. He was extremely exhausted working for Givenchy AND his own label simultaneously, that's producing several collections a year. So many designers got almost destroyed that way in the 90s, another good example is John Galliano. Btw they totally hired McQueen to give Givenchy a part of his own style, he was vocal about that being the case since his first Givenchy show, so I doubt that they hated it from the artistic point of view. And finally, the whole point of this exact collection was, if we put it very simply, "all over the place" - the models are supposed to look like they are "sewn together" as Ghosts after being ripped apart...

    This is Jennifer Sinclair. This is a show. For entertainment. Not a fashion exhibit to sell clothes. I wouldn't wear this stuff for free much less pay for the clothes. I love clean, well fitted, dresses that are well made with strong cloth. Solid colors or patterned but not showy. This stuff is crazy.
