- In this educational series, Steve Houghton addresses the fundamentals behind rhythm section playing. Starting with some of the common mistakes made by young or inexperienced rhythm section players, Steve demonstrates how simple changes can vastly improve the sound and groove.
The demonstration group for this educational series is the Foxborough High School Jazz Ensemble under the direction of Stephen C Massey. During the past 23 years, the Foxboro High School Jazz Ensemble established itself as one of the premiere high school jazz bands in New England. +nadir6661 not really looking like that, though.
look for a band called adult jazz
Gotta be the best high school jazz band I've ever seen.
You've never heard Essentially Ellington, then?
Steve Houghton is in a very short list of the best drum teachers in America if not in the world. I was his student at PIT in 1989.
You earned the part.
These guys and girls are abnormally good at playing. Thank you for this!
honestly the fidelity of the intro made my brain cry in relief.
orgasmic of you ask me~
really useful instruction even for advanced players bcuz I hadn't heard these concepts verbalized b4 and in context of all elements of rhythm section.
wtf! these kids are freakin awesome!! bass player especially
I've been looking for this. Never could understand how everyone could keep it together. This type relaxes me. I know it sounds crazy
Comping with the piano, lead soloist.....so important....great lesson on musicianship.

It's just you, Bonham couldn't swing a sack of shit as Ginger Baker once pointed out.
together jazz band is teamwork and cooperation and organization.

Nice! :)
Got that Bonham, fool in the rain groove at the end of the video🤘🏻
aweeeeesomeeeee
I'm a self-taught rock drummer, trying to get into jazz, so when I say "HOLY FUUUUUUUUCk 1:52!!" I mean it!
I've always thought that pace was do-able, and I've never tried it. But holy shit that is fast.
Matthew Hanimov guys come on... it's not that fast...
I reckon that was around 1 and a half years worth of my practice swinging on the ride. Keep in mind after around one year I practiced for roughly 3 hours a day at least.
Too cool. I hate to say this, but when you take the iPhone and video games out of kids hands and put all that fingering to musical instruments this is what you get! Nice.. I play open mics and my jazz bass friend threw me up with a noted jazz guitar player. "You can do this! That beat you played last night.. that was jazz!" "But I was just messing around.. i'm a rock drummer" So i'm the beginner making all these mistakes you hear them illustrate. Now i'm getting that ride cymbal feel for sure..
i was really rooting for that bass player. i do not think they want to piss this guy off.
could someone give me track names or video links to uptempo swing tracks? all i find is drum tutorials or poorly recorded drummer play alongs
Deji D v5player.slipstreamradio.com/pop_player/accujazz/4053/
Are those HD4s he's using?
jazz pianist must follow with drummer's strict tempo and strict rhythm
Which Zildjian Cymbal is he using?
Anyone know who that bassist and where he is today? Pls do tell!!!
Connor has some nice luscious hair.
Huh - I learned something.
Literally cannot hear the guitar or piano at all when they play together nice mix engineer.
niiiiiiiiiiiiiccceeeeeeeeeeee
Great instructional video. His ride cymbal was annoying to me - too high pitched. Maybe it's just me.
Saul goodman on the kit
Changes sound like Cherokee. No?

+Derin okur hahaha total fail
***** still laugh...
did these kids sell their soul for musical talent or something
it is not cool when guitaris qiet than trash brass section.
Jazz is an extremely boring music performed by amazing musicians.
Boring is in the eye of the beholder. If you understand what is actually going on, it is certainly NOT boring.
