    I love the factory header because you can run the nice OEM guard. But, if you want the performance out of that Supertrapp you need to find an old Cobra or DG head pipe. They are quite a bit larger than stock; I found 2 within days for 80$ each just a year or 2 ago, they are out there. The decompression cable should have 1/14th of an inch of free play at the cylinder head lever at TDC on the compression stroke, but you have to set the valves first, then set the cable. You got it to work but if you want to fine tune it, loosen the cable, set the valves, adjust the cable with the proper free play. Great video, helps out the trike community...

      Yes sir, I had this thing dialed in perfectly after me and my buddy rebuilt it. One kick every time in flip flops... now it's just out of tune. And regarding the header, I know a guy in PA who modifies 400EX headpipes to make them work the 350X and you still get the nice look of having the heat shield (400EX style though). I keep asking him for one but I'm always catching him at the wrong time.

    They work great on your big bore 250ES-SX as well kiddos. 152-154 main jet, stock pilot, needle down 1 clip would get you in the ballpark

    10:25 , one time out of curiosity I pushed the decomp in the direction of pull and felt it riding with the valves right before lack of compression shut it off. It enlightened me to where I now knew how much lash was there. I always heard that if adjusted wrong they wouldn't start or kick hard etc... kinda like the clutch you can feel the free play, but unlike a clutch cams are eccentric so it must be done while running to see if the distance from the resting (slack) position to just cracking the valves off the seats is far enough to reduce compression but still start easy and not too tight as to have compression slip by when its running

    Glad that overflow hose issue didn't catch you on fire during the ride!

    Have you ever tried running any K&N air filters on any of your Hondas?? That's the preferred set up for Glamis. K&N air filter with an Outterwear dust cover over it and remove the airbox lid.
    Seems to work well. That's how I had mine set up for riding in Glamis.
    Glamis is located at the south eastern most corner of California, next to Arizona and Mexico.
    It's a big place. From the main entrance to the Border of Mexico is 20 miles. GPS with the Glamis map downloaded is definitely a must!! A pass to go into the park can be purchased in the nearest city Brawley, CA. It seems like the most unusual place for Dunes, because the road leading out there has farms on either side, and slowly but surely it turns into Dunes!! Season starts in October and runs until May. Otherwise it's way too hot in the desert during Summer.
    Shoot we were there during Thanksgiving and right before Christmas, some days the wind would kick up and it was a stay in the motorhomes day. We had to go into Brawley one of those December days, to buy shorts, because it was 80° that day, but once the sun started going down, it cooled down. As it got dark nearer to sunset, it was time for jeans and a sweatshirt or hoodie. LED light bars and LED buggy whips are a must have for night time riding. Headset radios help you stay in contact with your group.
    All gas cans must be red, and DOT approved, otherwise BLM will hit you with fines.

    Your Supertrapp needs my polyurethane indestructible grommet!! That's why Supertrapps crack at the mount, the rubber they used was terrible and people often solid mount them, the frame flex's and they crack the aluminum mount off.

    Awesome rider it looks like its in great shape. I have been looking for a sport bike for a while but here in south La they are not easy to find, i do not have social media. But for now i have many other projects hopefully soon a 350 or 400. Keep the videos coming, i would like to see more like this of the interchangeable parts. Love the Big Red videos as this is my current build.

      This machine already had a 400EX carburetor on it before hand, so I already knew what jets were working for me. Curtie suggested bumping up my main jet from a 152 to a 155, so that's what I did and everything seemed to run great.

    What are the benefits of the the 400ex carb?

    • @ThisOldTrike
      @ThisOldTrike  Год назад +1

      It's a larger carb, so if you have engine mods, it will feed your engine more efficiently. Also, it had an accelerator pump, so it make it easier to start by allowing you to squirt a little gas into your cylinder before you start to kick.
